Can only hope he proves us wrong but that's hardly inspiring.
Appears to be like Pressley, another manager with a modest CV lucky to get the job so won't rock the boat with the BOD and DH.

One of the least inspiring/exciting appointments ever... no doubt the cheapest option (bar skelton).
Having said that, as of today he is the manger, head coach, whatever of Carlisle United football club and has my support and backing 100%

Massive risk. Thought the only way we could hire a 1st timer is if it was someone like Bridges who could get fans in and get a bit of cashflow. Need to be wary of this head coach structure they've started.

He must be a heck of an interviewee.

Just because someone is a household name or former player doesn't mean they're the right person for the job, but this seems a monumental risk to take.

Going so left-field with this, there is going to be almost no grace period for him with the fans to get things right. As soon as he starts making team selections/tactical decisions that people don't agree with they'll start getting on his back.

The board surely aren't stupid enough to not realise that. Not a huge amount to gain here but an awful lot to lose. Is this appointment going to put some off this protest against Grimsby, regardless of results in the run up to it, in the same way that Michael Bridges or Zigor Aranalde would? No chance.

Good luck to him, but this is a massive sign of the direction of the club. And I don't like it one bit.

It's OK, apparently he single handidly made Rochdale £25 million in transfer fees according to the article on the official site and then replaced the players that had been sold under the budget, even though he wasn't actually the manager.....

I hope he does a good job, but he’s under pressure straight away simply because it’s such an underwhelming appointment as no one has even heard of him. Say he starts off with a couple of defeats, fans will be on him straight away.

Someone like Nolan or Bridges probably would have inspired a bit more of a buzz so would have got a bit more patience from fans I reckon. Risky appointment, could easily drive even more fans away if he doesn’t get off to a flying start.

Simpson came from Rochdale and hadn't done much there.
Mervyn Day had never managed until Carlisle.
I'd never heard of Mick Wadsworth.
They all did not too bad really. I hope Beech is a great success and wish him all the luck in the world. Taking a chance on someone who has been coaching in the lower leagues for the last decade or more might not be the worst idea in the world.

They could have appointed someone with more of a reputation to try and get a bit of a buzz and get fans back, and I suspected for a while that was exactly what they were gonna do. If you're gonna run a football club you sometimes have to make unpopular decisions though; I know Notts County fans had the opposite criticism of their former owner, that he always wanted to make crowdpleasing appointments such as Harry Kewell that backfired badly.

Hopefully they've done the right thing and chosen the manager on merit. Even though they've made very poor decisions for some years now, would be wrong to immediately assume Beech is another of those. If we put in some improved performances and start picking up points then most fans will quickly change their tune about this being a poor appointment; just in the same way that, had we appointed someone like Bridges that got people excited that buzz would quickly fade if results didn't improve.

Beech will probably get less leeway than a more well-known manager might have gotten, I just hope that if things do start to improve that the fans start to get behind him as I know there are always some United fans who, once they decide they don't like a manager then that's that. Some people couldn't stand Keith Curle and said they wouldn't return until he left, even when we were qualifying for the playoffs.

Jenkins added that Beech wanted to work closely with the youth set-up at United.

He highlighted his "track record" for bringing through young players who were later sold on for significant fees, and replacing them "under budget".
Carlisle's statement listed a number of players Beech brought through at Spotland, saying Dale Stephens, David Worrall, Will Buckley, Scott Hogan, Jamie Allen and Andy Cannon have since commanded transfer fees worth more than £25m.

If we had strong leadership and a clear vision of how the club was going to achieve it's goals I could agree with your trail of thought here. Making a decision because it is the right move and he's the right man for the job, despite the usual clamour for a name we've heard of.

That is not what has happened here.

Being good at football and being a success as a manager aren't the same thing. Booby Charlton and Bobby Moore were crap at being managers. Whether or not Simpson was a "quality player" is not really relevant to anything.

I think he is a good person to have at the club, but we already have a person here that's here, for what he has come for in Kinder.

As a manager "head coach" he is an unknown with only 6 matches as caretaker. We could have chosen an up and coming manager or one with experience - not sure where this one lies.

We know why he's been brought in for. The pickers heard the £££££££ signs and imagine he will do it here. Any manager "head coach" that applies in future will be recruited to make money - which isn't the remit of a football league manager really - its to get results.

Wish him well - personally, think it's the wrong choice for "head coach" - time will tell.

I was only going by what the club have put on the press release announcing his appointment:

“He has a proven track record in the identification and recruitment of players [note - Dale Stephens, David Worrall, Will Buckley, Scott Hogan, Jamie Allen and Andy Cannon £25 million] and he was known at Rochdale for strengthening the squad under budget to replace those players sold at a premium.”

£5 million does though sound far more reasonable than the above mentioned £25 million
