Something good

I’ve just read about the club helping “the rock” a community centre in currock.

I don’t know anything about it at all, but I do know some stories and some of the things happening there . I’m supporting someone from the area and keep hearing things, unconnected.

Well done all involved and well done the club - the club gets bad press, deserved and these things get unnoticed but it’s only fair they get commented on when it’s something good.

Quite agree..read about it this morning...the club /errea donated shirts training kit and stuff.

People should remember they are some good people at the club still

CCU you've obviously lived under a stone or something. I have lived in Currock almost all my life & can assure you it was/is as bad as that. In fact we used to call the area within Henderson Rd - Ridley Rd & Scalegate Rd - Sewell Rd Little Beirut & referred to Mount Pleasant Rd as the gazza strip! Got even worse when they moved the Raffles & Botch lot over.

Your going to come back at me & say that is upperby not currock... Not true

Was gonna post that...Raffles was cleared out for the new housing...the ne'r do wells had to go somewhere .

Yous lot need to get yersells over to Manchester if you want to see rough arsed estates makes currock look like Beverly Hills....

We can agree on the boundarys then CCU, but growing up round there at roughly the same time i really can assure you that there was some really bad stuff going on. I don't want to sound like NS, but my mates & i got involved in some scary s#!t. Maybe I'm a little older than you, i don't know, but mid 80's onwards was very dodgy around Currock. We maybe knocked about in very different circles! Thank's be to the rave scene & Annabelles, things calmed down a little, trips to Manchester, Liverpool & Yarm became a very different affair, alot more love & not so much aggression & violence. But i am telling you mate, there was alot of bad stuff going on back then. As i said before it got worse with the influx of rag, tag & bobtails from other estates. Zebby, one of my best mates comes from Manchester & would agree with you. Luckily for me whenever i went down with him, he knew when & where to go to certain (well known) areas & he knew/knows a few "names" so we were always well looked after. I have grown up & moved on from those day's & don't miss any of it but I'm still stuck in the shithole.

Back to the original post, yes it is great that the club do things like this & should be congratulated for it. As said further up, I think people do forget that there are some really decent folk at the club.

I knocked about with quite a few Currock lads in the late 80’s well into the 90’s, you will definitely know them by the sounds of things but I think your glorifying it a bit pal, it was no worse than any other estate.

Yes i know you did, i was drinking with a couple of them fairly recently. You have to remember though that we knocked about in different circles back then. Alot of my mate's worked the door's in botchergate then and some of your mates 'worked' inside the doors, haha. I can vividly remember Eddie C calling your name out in Annie's, in fact might have a old cassette of that night tucked away somewhere.

I agree by the way, no worse than any other estate. Which is why i say it got worse when they moved the others over to currock

Spent some time in currock in a rented house after the floods.
I'm sure there are plenty of good people but I've never been so happy to get away.
Place had more than its fair share of scummy chav wannabees.

What about the beautiful view from the top of Bushy Bank, especially once the mountains are dusted with snow, or the array of colours on show from the trees in Autumn.

Add to this the best butchers you could find and other decent shops, The Currock pub is on the up as well.

There are chavs everywhere so Currock is no different, I don't tend to notice them - one thing that we should be thankful of is that knife culture hasn't hit Carlisle.

Which is surprising because it's hit Wigton.
