I'm not sure about that Waltero, the club or rather top table are driving down the debt from Curle's reign.... not pretty from us supporters point of view, but they are spending the bare minimum on the team building process ( at our expense) but it will keep us from going bust as long as we avoid relegation ( now that is a big concern)

Curle's long gone. He didn't sign the cheques, heaven forbid Tommy you sound a bit like Holdsworth blaming Curle for everything at least he can't blame him for his crap recruiting policy

Just because Curle is long gone Walter it doesn’t mean the debt from his reign has, these things can take years to turn around.

Curle didn’t sign the cheques but by all accounts he could be very persuasive when it came to making an old man part with his money. He made claims and ultimately failed to deliver, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares at Northampton after a similar spending spree.

How on earth Curle is held responsible for the debt is unbelieveable really.

Curle's crime, should have done better football wise, thats that.

Blaming him for making people sign cheques or by- passing a weak chief exec to get what he wanted, I would be annoyed if he did not do that!

They could have said no.

Well AJ I need 200k. That's the cost of signing a striker from Barrow including 1 years wages plus signing on fees, agent etc

Here you go Keith, here is the 200k

When that money goes into the club initially cash goes up and debt goes up. When its paid to barrow/ Bennett the cash goes down but the debt remains

Jenkins provided the money and Curle wasted it. If we had been top of the table or even in the play-offs we would have generated more income so the debt could have been reduced. The failing on the pitch meant we lost money so Jenkins had to put more money (Or EWM) so the debt went up again

Your right in a lot of ways Lummy they could and should have said no.
But Curle was a insistent sod when he wanted to be, he was like the bloody Pied Piper, and once he got his teeth stuck into you, it was bloody hard to shake him off.
There were a number of things he wanted to do up at Creighton, I'm not going to go into specifics, but some of the stuff was laughable!!! Fair enough if CUFC owned Creighton, but they don't, and Curle was expecting CUFC to fork out on alterations to the club when they don't even bloody well own it.
They gave Curle everything he wanted, because he insisted that there were better times ahead, unfortunately their loyalty to him has come back to bite them on their backsides.
Who's to blame ??? 50/50 in my opinion!

Every manager I have played under who was ambitious asked and asked and asked, Simmo and Fred were constantly at each other, Peter Reid at Sunderland.

SP is obviously getting told NO now, or he knew before he started there was nothing, it took Phillip Day jumping in with DH to sort that, otherwise they probably would have give Sheridan everything and went even more in the red!

Completely lies at boards door.

Bluebry, he can be persistant as he wants, just say no, they are the owners, no one got any balls like to say no.

McDonald shouted down the bus after Walsall at Fred "get your hand in your pocket!" 48 hrs later..gone.

I'm not disagreeing with you Lummy, I also think there is a little magic word called "NO", however I really do think that some people need a few lessons in basic cost control (especially managers / footballers that have plied their trade at much bigger clubs), especially at a relative small club like Carlisle, something which Curle had absolutely no idea about. Unfortunately our board swallowed every single word he said, he was that persuasive.

I will have to disagree with you bluebry, Curle managed at Chester (administration), Mansfield, so he knew about small budgets. Nixon banged on about championship, so s a manger I would have said ok show me that is your ambition.

Every manager pushes it, every manager, as you have said, they should have said no. In any walk of life if there is a weakness people jump on it.

I agree Keith did have ideas above League 2 as in the training ground etc, but he asked because they kept saying yes. Inept board.

Have to disagree again we are a small club, we will be in next couple years unfortunately.

Whatever the opinions of right and wrong, I am glad he bullied them, Liverpool match was fantastic, Everton at home was great for the city, and the play offs drew in loads of young kids, far rather that then now, loan loan, veteran, loan, untried.

But if you look at it in the boards point of view, what would have happened if they did so 'no' from time to time? Curle would have gone off screaming to the press, 'they wont give me any money', which in turn would have turned the fan base against them, the devil you do the devil you don't!!

Culmination of things, McDonald had been quite disrespectful to Fred when signing Joe Garner, Eric used to say "you can not do that". Plus when you do upset someone or people within the club, more stories come out about how he was around town etc. He hung himself.

Aye, but then we come back in full circle, Curle was very, very persuasive, and they knew because of the Liverpool cup tie and one relatively decent season that a good swaythe of the fan base was behind him, any rocking of the boat then would have turned everybody against the board, they knew that, so they HAD to back him.

They could have been honest and said "look, we can gamble, but club will be on its arse if fail" then we all know the crack. But no, JN etc banged on about aspirations, when we all knew they were petrified of it.

As has been mentioned many times, how are successful businessmen so inept at running football clubs up and down the country, decisions like these would not be made at their businesses.

I think we need to leave the Curle was persuasive at the door, many managers/players/people in life are, say no, if you cant, you are in the wrong role.

Keith did what I'd expect any manager worth his salt would do.

If Pressley had a direct line of communication to Philip Day rather than going through David Holdsworth and John Jackson I bet we'd have a bit more money to spend.

I've a feeling he might resign sooner rather than later if we fail to land his targets.

How can they go on about the integrity of the competition when theyre allowing Bolton to play their youth team. Unless they make them play it all season even if they do get taken over then it wont be fair.

How did they get into this trouble - was it Allardyce's fault or did the rot set in when they left the top flight through mismanagement?

Mismanagement, on an astronomical scale, I should think. I have a mate (Bolton fan) who says their debt is ridiculous, and therefore any rescue plan is pie in the sky...?

But Allardyce's brilliant success with Bolton created a level of expectation which was out of reach for the mediocre managers who succeeded him. The club spent too much money without getting the results.
