Correct, Munchy! Very impressive.
Not one you see down here and first time I've seen one was this one.
Been seeing a few Jays recently as well out walking. Too difficult to photo but amazing to see those flashes of blue on their wings.
Used to see loads as a kid but not too many anymore around here.
More Magpies than ever though.

You get a few on the Pennines from time to time. You often first know ones about by it's song which is a very ready tweet then a noise that my dad used to say was like two stones being rubbed together.

One of those birds that somehow instantly cheer you up when you see one. It must be ten years since I've seen one though. They seem to like evergreen trees to flit around in.

There’s a lovely robin knocking around my garden, it landed on my garage door last week. I told the cats l’d kick their arsed if it was ever brought into me.
Do bats hibernate? Seen one flying round a few days ago, at dusk, thought it would be late for them.
Thought it was late for the bloody wasps l newspapered yesterday though.

I think it depends a bit on how cold the autumn is but I think it's usually end of October or beginning of November before bats hibernate. When I was a kid I remember seeing them a few times on bonfire night.

A walk from Martindale to Bannerdale today we spotted several large herds of Red Deer some over 30 strong.
Sadly stealth isn't a strong point although we did get within 50 metres of this herd nearly as difficult to get a good shot of deer as it is our youngest grandson.
Stags seem rather quiet atm maybe they are feeling the love
Still a fantastic sight.

Out and about on the fells and across the fields in Cumbria saw some lovely birds.
Sadly, I wasn't quick enough to snap the Jay, Merlin, Dipper,Redwings, Owls and a few others I saw but managed to photo a Heron, Kestrel, Stonechat ( I think) Fieldfares and Woodpecker. Sat and watched the Woodpeckers and Jays for hours. Not sure if this is the Lesser or Greater Spotted one. Any ideas, anyone?
So many Fieldfares everywhere across the fields and heard the Tawny Owls a lot, even in the daytime.
Heartwarming stuff.

I'm pretter sure it will be a greater spotted. Not always easy on a photo cos the biggest give away is the size. Lessers are small, not a lot bigger than a sparrow, and I've never seen one round here. Greaters are quite common nowadays, they are about the size of a blackbird but longer and thinner in sillouette. They are also cleaner to look at somehow, Lessers are sort of more speckly where greaters have cleaner lines to their markings.

Somewhere on the M40 round about Buckingham/ Wycombe area, there are loads of Red Kites. Used to pass them in the bus, on the way to the many London games, in the Conference.

We red kites regularly when we travel to/ thru Buckinghamshire ( must be around 20+ pairs along the motorway)
