NCF mentioned this in the L2 Thread but it’s that important it deserves it’s own IMO.

Fixture congestion could see The EFL Cup officially use B/U21 Squads for those in Europe, or them not enter at all.

Also FA Cup Replays will be a thing of the past, and more chance all rounds will go midweek - More cash if Premier League is played on a weekend you know!

Be interesting to see the attendance this evening when it’s Fleetwood reserves and not Man Utd’s future stars…

Ha, so attendance v Man U 3300.
Attendance v Fleetwood 1300 (at a guess).
Solution. More U21 teams to increase attendances?

Too many fickle, short-sighted “supporters” of the club turning up to these games. That last attendance in this competition was an embarrassment, a real low point for the club in my opinion.

Got no problem with scrapping cup replays as it gives smaller clubs a better chance of progressing over a one off game.
Also have no problems with the bigger clubs (those competing in Europe) putting out 'weakened' teams - they all have 2 teams of internationals in any case. And again it gives the smaller teams a better chance to progress.
What I do have a problem with is the fact that the European Cup (sorry Champions League) just keeps getting bigger and bigger, and is almost a European Super League in all but name - and don't get me started on the Europa League/Europa Conference League. These competitions are simply huge cash cows for the elite and the wannabee elite to keep them sweet.
The big clubs are at least partly responsible for the increase in European games and then complain they can't fit the other fixtures in
In many ways it would be better if the 'Elite' just ****ed off and played each other every week - so long as they weren't allowed to compete in any of their domestic cups or appear for their national teams. See how long it would take until everyone was bored ****less and wanted to come back.
Also why not reduce the Premier League to 18 teams, as in other European countries, surely it's not money and keeping certain clubs sweet!
On the plus side the Government and others appear to want to see more of the vast income generated going to lower league clubs, which has got to be a good thing.

It's harsh but, frankly, if you attend the games in this Papa John's nonsense then you are part of the problem.

You've basically given this shit your blessing.

If the PL clubs are allowed to play B / U21 teams in the EFL cup that would make the EFL Trophy redundant as there would be little difference between the two, surely?

Personally, I’d combine the EFL Cup and Trophy into one EFL only Tournament.

Sod the PL and all their U21 teams too!

Could seed the Champ teams so chance of getting someone half decent in a Group etc. And still a chance of Wembley…

Getting a crowd of over 3,000 in the FL trophy is a real low point for the club? Don’t talk rubbish. Is that just because you don’t agree with the format of the competition?

Calling fans who go and watch their team “clowns” is a real low point however. Pathetic.

Just imagine if this is going to happen to the League Cup, what any team who gets relegated from the Premier League will think about playing a Premier League B / U21 team, such as Bournemouth or Brantford, a year after competing in the Premier League.

Realistically, most PL teams have been fielding B teams in the League Cup for years anyway.

They’re only going to be entering one team, not a first team and a B team. As long as they don’t call it Man Utd B or Man Utd U21 I don’t think that will make a whole lot of difference.

Not fussed about cup replays being scrapped either, there’s more chance of an upset without them.

Agree with most of that apart from the seedings. That's what's best about the FA Cup. Everyone in the hat together.

Of course they are clowns, Frank. They are giving their nod to the authorities for what they have done to this competition. They aren’t seeing the bigger picture. The same ‘fans’ will be turning up in a few seasons, when we are playing some premier league B team in a league fixture - which is ultimately the PL’s end game.

I would rather see us play in a british cup for lower leagues against jocks, welsh and even irish teams if permitted .just something different.

Just no to any B team... under 21 shit..sick of these big boys getting their own way.

I don’t care which players any clubs decide to play. They can field whoever they want as far as I’m concerned it, whether it be a team of experienced international players or the entire youth team it should entirely be the managers choice. All managers should be able to use their squad of players however they want.

The one thing I object to is the calling of a side a ‘B team’. I find it insulting and degrading in any competition, and takes away the glory of a victory.

Is there any glory in beating an U21 Team in the Trophy?

As these Teams were considered to be ‘B Teams’ by all and sundry when they arrived in 2016.

From the link:

The controversial restructuring sees Premier League and Championship clubs entering 'B teams' into the competition against League One and Two sides for the first time.

Sorry I should have been clearer, I mean U21 teams as well as B teams. It’s made even worse when the so called “U21” has a number of players over the age of 21 allowed to play.

But there’s been several instances of an invited team playing in the Trophy also playing a League or Cup game on the same night?

I can remember Man City and Chelsea I think it was doing so. So if you played them on one of those nights in this Competition, you’d expect them to simply be called Man City or Chelsea? Even though it was their U21 Team?

I remember the first Season we had invited teams, we had Blackburn in our Group. Their Twitter was saying how these games don’t count for Stat reasons, but for us they do. How does that work?!

A sorry mess sadly…

It doesn’t work, does it. A sorry mess indeed. No way should a club ever be playing two fixtures on the same night. It’s simply beyond the realms of greed and ridiculousness.

Has it ever crossed your mind that some fans have different views to you and don’t really give a monkey’s about the politics behind football, they just want to go and watch their team play? Think you need to learn to be a bit less bigoted rather than calling folk with different thoughts from you “clowns”.

Anyway, your assumption that fans who turn up are ‘giving the nod’ to authorities is seriously flawed. Plenty don’t approve of our current ownership but still go, are they ‘giving the nod’ to the 3 failures in charge? I don’t like what Sky and the PL have done to English football but have still been to PL games since it’s inception, am I somehow in approval? I can’t stand FIFA and it’s rotten core but have been to their WC’s before, am I giving them the nod?

Fair enough you don’t approve of the competition these days (a competition which was on its arse anyway) but no need in abusing others who are happy still to go.

As one of the 3300 clowns who turned up to watch the Man U game, perhaps you could explain what the big picture is? Please use small words so that the 3300 of us who can't attain your intellectual level can understand.
