There are two forms of criticism, Constructive, and destructive. As a True supporter of Carlisle United I can accept. That we do not always have the the best team, the best players , in the Country. We have what we can afford, Young players climbing through the ranks, and elderly players trying to stretch their earning Capacity for one or more seasons. But one thing that all these players are not, is failures. Even reaching Carlisle United level, they are a success and should be treated with respect. What good does it do for either the team or the player to give him a zero or 2 rating. Destroy his confidence, destroy the teams confidence, Even the Managers confidence.
I remember years ago when writing on the United web of the day, I mentioned a 1950,s player. Just mentioned, not in any critical way, but I was surprised when I had a reply from that players grandson telling me how proud they were that he played for United. I realised then that all these players have families, and detrimental comments on this board can hurt parents, wives and children, for what. They are Professional Footballers, not at their potential pinnacle possibly, but they get paid, they are a success, and as a true supporter of the greatest club in the Universe it is my job to give them all my support, all my encouragement because I can well remember many times of leaving Brunton Park, after 90 minutes of well disappointment, vowing never to come back, yet the following Saturday I still walked down Warwick road, full of Zip, weighing up the crowd beside me so I could estimate the attendance, Full of enthusiasm for my club. Because that is my duty to my Club, Support, encourage, and always be positive.
Narcissistic posters have destroyed my willingness to participate in this environment . An old saying….” I you can’t say anything good, then don’t say anything at all.”
Years ago I attended the last game of the season, an away game at Lincoln. Probably about two to three hundred United supporters, and we got hammered. But what I remember the most that we all gave a rousing ovation to great players, lower half of the lowest league, but they were our players, and we were true supporters.
