With a new Prime Minister to be announced today (Mon 5th Sept 2022), we’ll start a fresh thread for all the discussion, and also use this one for any other Westminster/Politics related stuff going forward.

The old thread is now locked as Boris and his Government are replaced.

If you are quoting from a website, please add a link to back it up. (Click on ‘Links’ below the text box and you should be able to post them in the little box, we’ve added one to this post as an example!) - Posts without a link to back up the discussion may be removed.

Thanks.

Truss or Sunak? Totally irrelevant who gets the job as they are all self serving, out of touch, lying cretins and nothing will change for the common person.

Tax-cut Truss is genuinely thick and is therefore the option the Tories have gone for.

How does someone not understand that reducing anything by a fixed percentage benefits those who have more most?

She'd have to cut income tax and NI to zero to save someone on 20,000 the two and a half extra grand needed to pay the extra in fuel bills.

Hope all the divs who voted Tory are happy

I predict Truss but, agree with beefsister.

I also predict Laffy will be top contributor on this thread followed by Marko. There will be more platitudes and no latitude.

I can't reveal my sources, but let's just say, they are in the know.
I can exclusively reveal that Liz Truss won the most votes and will be the new PM.

It's a change of Govt we need not just a change of leader in an incompetent Govt.
Should be forced to go to the country in an election and not let a small group of Tory members decide the fate of the country.

I'm fully expecting Starmer to be prime minister in 2024 unless Truss is stupid enough to hold a general election before then to seek her own personal mandate. I shudder at the prospect of Kwasi Kwarteng as Chancellor and Rees Mogg as Business Secretary. In contrast some of the Labour shadow cabinet like Wes Streeting seem quite sensible.
I realise that many Tory party members live in a different world to most of us but how could anyone, who has just voted for Truss, watch that car crash of an interview with Laura Kuenssberg and think they made a good decision?

Why lock the old thread? It's just Boris' government continued. Rebrand with a new face at the helm, the king is dead, long live the king.

Poundland Thatcher won't be any different, she'll prove equally incompetent in time and nothing will improve for the average man.
What a time to be alive!

On another note, I'm struggling to believe Truss is only 47 :o

Really worrying times - fairly used to living under self serving Tory PM's but this is the first time we've had one that genuinely seems thick.

I don't want her to hand me money. I want mega-rich energy companies to stop taking it in the first place.

The important point to remember that Carlisle is the most Northerly City in England with a Tory MP. She wouldn’t dare have said Kirkcaldy
