These are seriously going to change the welcome to Carlisle, well if you turn left from the Station!

Looks good and with B&M and Matalan having to re locate it would be great if they could move to the town centre in Hoopers or Debenhams.

Looks like a great addition, also brings student into the centre of town which hopefully will bring more footfall into the shops in the town.

Looks fantastic, hopefully it all comes off and as pp says it may have the knock on affect of filling up some of the empty buildings in the centre of town.
The area in front of the station has always been a nightmare so getting rid of the bulk of the traffic from there will be most welcome and will create an open and welcoming space.
Very impressive graphic images too.
As cc says, we may have to have a no right turn sign for pedestrians when leaving the station.

What surprised me was some of the comments on the news and star Facebook what surprised me was the amount of comments we're people complained about it without even reading through the article and a lot of weird complaints that the images had no bus stops.

I think that is about par for the course with regards to the N&S comments page.

Progress? nah, we don't want any of that nonsense.

I'm glad they're keeping the old Woolies facade, but the rest is a bit generic glass box - copy of the county council offices with the new ewm top floor from castle Street plopped on top. I wonder what this lad would make of it?

The developement for the University is tied up with the Imperial College London and will be for training Dr's which could be a big benefit to the city given the state of our local health care right now.

Also the Station is undergoing a lot of works in the next couple of years, no more cramped space on the front when replacement buses are on etc!

Makes me laugh mind at the horsemen and their total shan blue blunder project..All the local projects come with some good artists impressions to back up plans...They rolled out a black and white 1 dimensional view from above with shapes on and a bit of writing a child could have knocked up.

In fairness, the original Blue Yonder pics/plans were of an exploratory nature, drawn up by a firm with a lot of experience in Stadiums (Frank Whittle Partnership).

They only spent approx £10k was it? Any more and you’d have cried they were wasting too much money!

It will interesting to see what kind of 21st Century insulation/heating/cooling/lighting/renewables are being used in the build.

London is into green spaces, even on the roofs, don't see much of that.

Will it be carbon neutral ?

I'm sure it will be designed to be carbon neutral, and at least one of the roofscapes appear to be green on those images.
Bring it on.

I worked with an Architect, well over 20 years ago, when he tasked with locating the new University of Cumbria in the Courts Buildings. The Tutors Offices and meeting rooms were to be housed in Portland Square. In a few years we'll now get there, things take time up North.

I do like the artistic impression of the new buildings and particularly its location in the heart of the city. But the problem is the name, University of Cumbria. Soon Cumbria will cease to exist. This may also be a problem for Radio Cumbria.

Cumbria will still exist as a ceremonial county it'll just be divided into 2 unitary authorities. From the article link below “The Order ensures there is no change to the ceremonial county of Cumbria; the roles and responsibilities of the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff of the county of Cumbria are unaltered."

It does look amazing. I just wonder how the plans fit in with Liz Truss's intentions of squeezing funding for universities. Mind you most of her plans are totally unworkable.

I always smile when I'm on the 15 bus in East London and they call out the next stop as University of Cumbria. It feels strange but I'm told they do excellent work training teachers to work in East End schools.
