I changed my car on Tuesday and rang my car insurance company (Admiral) the same day to update my existing policy to cover the new vehicle, and to temporarily add the old one back on until I sold it. The guy on the phone kept muttering about IT problems and the system being slow but eventually confirmed that it had all gone through.
Today, Friday, I sold the old car and went to update my policy again, but saw that the changes from Tuesday had not been processed meaning I was still only insured for the old vehicle and had been driving the new one with no insurance for a couple of days.
Legally of course it is my responsibility and I slipped up by not checking that the policy documents had come through within the first 24 hours.
I've initiated a complaint against Admiral and my call from Tuesday will have been recorded, so the evidence should be clear that I was led to believe the car was insured.
What I wanted to ask was whether I could have been picked up by a camera for having no insurance and if so how long would it be before I got a fine through the post, as this will obviously affect the timing and what I should accept from Admiral in compensation. I guess I should also require Admiral to provide a letter confirming their error.

Funny enough I phoned Sky up last week to see if I could get a deal because my contract was up,I told them straight that I was going unless they improved on what I was paying and straight away they dropped my bill by £10 a month and included Sky Cinema into the deal,I was surprised at how quickly they sorted something out, definitely worth a try if your contracts up

Anyway, a year on and the insurance was due.Points now down to 6, no claims and they deemed me a good driver.Despite this, they loaded my premium by 20pc

Point here is they have a cost of customer acquisition algorithm in their software and I reckon it’s £250.They don’t like churn.

It's six points on your driving licence for having no insurance. Under the circumstances you've explained you have no worries whatsoever, Admiral are totally liable and would still be even if you'd had an accident.
