Pubs all closed, but found a nice little place, not far from home, The Summerhouse Inn. Small but quiet and cosy, beer quite cheap too.





No noisy oiks on smart phones either, great place.

I was told by a friend last night that the Milbourne Arms is being turned into a Carlisle United themed pub , by the people that have the Howard and the crown.
Anybody heard this ?

The Milbourne is a survivor, I'll give it that but would be surprised if there's much scope to grow the clientele locally.

The staff are going to be wearing replica Shaddongate United shirts, so the pub will have a football/ historical theme.

Hopefully it's as good as the Howard, decent pint, good food prices and a friendly atmosphere.

I heard the milbourne is being taken over by a cufc fan and entrepreneur who lives quite near to the pub and wouldn't need to change the sign too much.

There was a removals van outside Bomb Shelter yesterday (or Friday - can't remember) but it could, of course, have been making a delivery or some other innocent explanation.

The whole bar area has been rebuilt. It's just not the same. (if it ain't broke, don't fix it)

I too used The Howard on my days in Carlisle but on recent visits it no longer seened to be a pub but more like a restaurant with no food.
Go elsewhere now but will have to see which pubs survive the lockdown for my future visits.
I am happy to attend games once they are given clearance but am wary of the 3 hour train journey

We haven’t started back yet, although plans are in place to do so shortly.
With no confirmation on pubs opening the 4th July or any guidance/regulation there is only so much we can do.
I see a couple of companies have come out Today and said they will be opening regardless on the 4th although I would imagine this is just a bluff to try and push for an answer.

cheers Matt. I've been sampling beers from some of areas I've been too on away games. At the moment I'm enjoying Jail Ale from Dartmoor. All these breweries are doing free delivery but I miss the atmosphere of a pub. Hope to see you soon. Stay safe

Quick update for you walt, we will be open on Saturday 4th July
Finalising the social distance seating plans tomorrow morning but its looking positive. You will need to download the app if you haven’t got it yet will make life much easier for you to get a beer and real ales including guests will be available on it.
We also won’t be showing any sport to begin while things settle down.

Yeah The Griffin is waiting until the 6th as well, and I know a few others are considering not opening straight away. We are looking at operating at around 30% capacity with everyone seated both inside and outside.

I'll probably have a wander down, be a novelty. I've got a load of CAMRA vouchers to use up.

Doesn’t seem to be much opening on the 4th July. Could well be that there’s more people out than will fit in the pubs which are open.

Another daft name.

Gin and Beer it in Jamhaven are changing their name to No name bar and grill i read yesterday. Unusual.

New bar opening soon in Workington and thank [censored] it has real ale on as its a desert apart from Spoons.
