If non-league football continues to be played I might attend a Workington game.

It would be interesting to watch a team managed by Danny Grainger.

I think Workingtons league will be knocking it on the head after this weekend as well.

It’s going to be very hard to get this season finished even with Euros being cancelled creating a bit of space.

Assuming all is well you could finish it off at the start of next season and then play a shortened season but that would be difficult and unfair in its set up.

Scrapping the whole season seems the only way to do it which isn’t ideal.

It’s harsh on some clubs. I would feel for the fans of Liverpool and Leeds in particular.

Every option is unsatisfactory but I think it’s more likely they’d let the season stand as it is than scrap it.

Enough games have been played for it to be a fair reflection.

Promotion and relegation places as they are, top team in the play off places goes up.

Anyone relegated or missing out should have done better in the games that were played.

That’s not going to happen for legal reasons.

Villa for example have a game in hand. They’re not going to be too chuffed!

Immediately postpone the euros for a year. That allows for the season to be extended. Scrap the two main European competitions and every domestic cup competition. Then set a final possible restart date now. I would say they have until the last weekend of May to get started again. If they can't then the season is null and void.
Incredibly harsh on liverpol and leeds, incredibly jammy for Norwich, Bolton and stevenage but I don't see an alternative.

European places are trickier. Personally I would start the season in August with a little mini tournament to sort out european qualifications. Liverpool had already mathematically qualified so they get that place automatically.

I also think the fa and the football league need a plan for supporting their clubs financially or the majority of lower league teams won't be getting back up anyway. Pay clubs 75% of potential lost gate receipts. That last bit is clearly not going to happen.

I think you could see quite a few clubs go into administration quite quickly.

Absolute sickener for the likes of Crewe who are top of the league if it’s all null and void. I’d be gutted.

I suppose one thing to do is declare a shortened season, championships and relegation’s would then stand as they are, or go back over clubs last 9 or 10 games and award points on the supposed gain if points from those games, unfair in some clubs as their firm could suddenly improve eg Stevenage but in Liverpool’s case they have already won the title. It’s far from right of course but may be the only half fair way as it may be impossible to finish this seasons matches given the outlook for and timescale of the pandemic.

Crucially though Liverpool haven't already won the title, not technically. I don't think you can just give it to them. Might be different if they can get man city to officially concede but it would still be a hollow victory.

Whilst I think it would be hilarious if this season was declared null and void (striking it from the records as if it had never happened thus depriving Liverpool of their title) I feel in reality the season should just be declared as it now stands. If teams have games in hand their average points per matches played to date could be calculated and added to their present total.
The Euros could be put back a year and next years European club competitions could be started later by missing out the initial pre-qualifying games - basically reverting back to straight knockout competitions as it was before big money took over.

Financially this is a disaster because teams are paying players with no money coming in. It could really push teams over the edge financially even us. Can the board afford to keep paying without any money going back in.

They have to finish the season in my opinion, even if it means playing over the summer, not just to sort out relegations/promotions but for lower clubs to claw back some income.

So one idea would be for clubs to treat now like a pre season break, then finish this season whenever it’s suitable to do so, even if that runs into what should be next season. I know there’s the issue of player contracts expiring end of June but that’s a bridge that would have to be crossed at the time.

Then for next season, based on how late it starts, cancel the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy for that season and use the freed up match days to play catch up on fixtures.

Not ideal but it’s the only way I can see it working.

One more thing to add, teams in Leagues 1 and 2 are likely to lose money so could try and subsidise that by running with smaller squads next season, so the emergency 28 day loan system should be brought back for 1 season, so if an injury crisis occurs they can get help from higher league clubs with players.

This is an unprecedented situation which no-one could have foreseen and requires decisions to be made which will probably not be covered in any rule book. NB If they are, all well and good.
I am sure there will be legal challenges whatever is decided - however most legal challenges anywhere shouldn't get any further than 'go forth and multiply' and are usually mounted by rich people (or people with rich backers) who can afford to lose. The only certain outcome being rich lawyers getting even richer.

Radio Cumbria are covering it live today.

Forgetting the top two leagues, half the teams in leagues 1 and 2 will go bust. Nearly six months with no income would not be managable for them. I saw somewhere that a third of a clubs income is still gate receipts in these leagues. The Peterborough owner said £500M for league 1 and £2-3ooK for league 2.
We should be okay with the recent money in and the EWM loan facility, but not sure many will be as lucky. Good some might say, but who would be left to compete in the leagues.
On the other hand, maybe it is the financial correction that has been needed in the lower leagues.
Second thing is there will be multiple legal challenges if the leagues are cancelled. There are so many still in with a chance of promotion and European positions (say 10 per division?, that's 40 pissed off club owners).
It has been funny seeing how parochial football supporters are - if it is positive for your team cancel the league and vice versa (and see below).
Think for both reasons (but mainly for the first reason) the leagues have to be finished.

Consider reformatting or scraping all Europen competitions for next season,countries. need to get their own leagues operating fully first.

You won't notice any change.

The problem is no-one knows who long things are going to take to get back to 'normal', weeks, months, a year?
With regards to the survival of lower league clubs, there is enough money sloshing about at the top end. Who knows, if a gesture was made to help it may just help to bring the 'football family' together!

If the first team squad of all premier league clubs gave a weeks wages towards Legue 1 and 2 there should be enough to pay all the Clubs wages for a year including non playing staff.

If the season was declared null and void would next season start with only 23 teams in division 1? Would the points deduction for Bolton and Macclesfield be carried over?
Although we cannot predict how long this enforced break will be I do feel that the season has to be finished one way or another. This may require postponing the Euros for a year, shortening next season by cancelling all domestic cups and hopefully the European club competitions too. What would thoses red shirted plastic fans watch on T.V. then?

Needs to be a cut off and if the season doesn’t get finished then tough. Interesting that Klopp sees if that way but the Celtic managers first thought was that they should be awarded the title. As Klopp himself says if it saves one persons life then it’s worth it.

When we are talking 100s of millions of pounds, it is niave to think it won't happen.
And there is no need for it to. Delay the Euros, extend the seson by two months to end of June, couple of weeks delay to new season.

Likely impossible to do, some Player’s will already have moves lined up for July 1st on better wages etc...

A simple plan B for me of getting on the bike and having a good knock about..someone had the cheek knowing the Grimsby game was off for me to do their shift...cheeky [censored] like eh...i always have a plan B
