Scott is a shame but I don’t see him fitting into Beech’s 433 ‘hit and hope’.

Toure and Anderton are the surprises for me there. Toure hasn’t offered enough in my opinion but then again he’s a good option to have from the bench. Anderton must be on reduced wages as he should only be a backup to Armer, I really hope he doesn’t stunt Jack’s progression.

I’d like to see us keep feeney Bennett, Zanzala & Farman.
With toure activated I’d move Patrick on, surprised he was extended, can’t be too expensive.
It’s great to see such continuity in the squad and with quality retained.
The likes of tanner, Riley, Mellish, Armer should be even better next season.

I’d like to add a couple of experienced leaders, I think this was our biggest weakness this season.

I’d love to see the stats but we really struggled when going a goal down and in general in the 2nd half of games. I’d be scared of the goals scored after 75 mins figure or goals scored by subs.

I can only think Toure was activated as a punt. See if he scores a few goals in early season then trade him on in January. After all Swindon paid us money for Hallam Hope which I regard as one of Holdsworth's crowning achievements.

Looking at those who've we've kept I think we can expect possibly two strikers, one winger (hopefully different to Toure and Patrick), one sitting midfielder to cover for Guy and depending on Bennett signing a new deal, a central defender. I doubt we'll bring in any loans this season.

Looks like we’re going to be stuck with central defenders who make too many crucial mistakes, wingers who almost never get the ball to the bye line and strikers who don’t score nearly enough goals.

It's a nice story to bring someone in from non-league and for them to do well but he obviously wasn't up to it. If we had a Jamie Vardy banging them in in training then I'm sure he'd have played and would've been given a contract. Steven Rigg scored 50 odd goals from midfield for Penrith at a higher level than Scott and has just been released by Dover. Yes, we made a mistake 10 years ago on Nahki Wells and Paddy Madden but they are rare exceptions.

Only the future will tell if releasing players was a bad/good decision.

Hayden's backside would have been out of the building if it Pressley had anything to do with it, if Beech had been replaced then would the new manager have rated Scott? We will never know.

To be fair there are very few that go on to be very good compared to the shedloads that fall by the wayside or drop down the leagues, so not many escape our grasp when we have them and also maybe a player improves or changes his attitude.

I think we could do far worse that keep tabs on Pat Brough - local and wouldn't break the bank in wages if he was on a free, he improved greatly with a full season in the league and started to find the net as well.

Not a hankering for ex-players just trying to use our location to our advantage for a change, shame that never worked out with Grant Holt.

Happy with that list. Continuity is a rare thing at this level in the modern game.

Toure may not quite have delivered, but both he and Patrick have it in them to scare the hell out of opposition defenders. Anderton is much maligned, and had a tough time in the second half of the season - but there’s a player in there, and hopefully he can learn some lessons if he stays.

If we can keep Bennett and Zanzala, I’ll be very happy indeed. As for Scott, it’s a shame - just didn’t work out for the lad.

I think a defence of tanner, Bennett, hayden and armer with Macdonald and Anderton is decent if the wages are right. Same in midfield, guy and Riley with furman and mellish. But upfront we were weak. I would have cleared out kayode, Alessandra, toure. Zanzala played well, walker was OK when fit and Patrick had his moments. I don't see at their ages how we can expect more next season unless he will bring in loanees, then why keep them?

This sounds more like avoiding the prospect of playing Hebburn as a favour for us signing Scott and Scott is back playing for Hebburn….

Got to feel for Scott really if he hadn’t come here he would now have a cup winners medal, instead he got a few mins pitch time even though in the 3 games he managed to play for the reserves he scored 4 goals. It’s not like we didn’t struggle to get goals either.

Slagging off players is only really commenting on their performances if they are bad - you can't just take the plaudits and not be accountable for your terrible games.

Webster for example may have picked up at the end but he was still our worst player for many a season in my opinion because we were guessing the minute he made a gaff in games - he may not be the worst player in his performances for other clubs but for us he was a liability and he ended up laughing at his own mistakes like that time he should have scored.

We are all supporters but you cannot be blinkered by this and if we want to be the best then we have to be brutal about how players perform, you cannot say that someone is not a true supporter for stating facts even if it is hurtful towards the player, if if is not lies then the said player needs to man up and take it on the chin and improve or they can sulk if they want and be moved on.

I know it’s a one off, but Beech switched to 3-5-2 at Cheltenham which resulted in one of our strongest performances. He also switched to 4-4-2 at times (usually late in games we were struggling in) with varying degrees of success/failure.

In the case of Anderton, I don't think that he is that bad a player at all but he made some terrible gaffs and decisions since Christmas that has left questions hanging over him.

On the flipside - pre Christmas he was the captain of the team that were top of the league beating all before them by brute power.


All in one season - his fitness could well be part of any covid issue but I was getting frustrated by JP on the radio claiming he wouldn't have done this and that if he was fully fit which I didn't agree with as decision making and awareness are a massive part of your game and it was lacking even when he got up to match fitness.

A gamble with Anderton that could pay off, if he accepts that is but you never know what Beech is thinking as in he could do better so he has offered him something derisory - I hate it when this happens because it makes the player look greedy if they reject a new offer from us when in reality it could just be the manager being a [censored] and offering them just above minimum wage.
