Hello folks,

We’ll be on another CUSG Meeting via Zoom next Monday (26th April).

You’ll be glad to know we’re now in a position to ask Questions to the powers that be again!

Questions/topics to be submitted on here by 18:00 on Friday 23rd April to enable us to collate and forward to all parties - Please note, questions of a similar nature may be combined into one to save answering the same thing several times over!

Thanks,

Admin.

Club

Do the clubs owners feel completely stupid for calling a businessman, wishing to help the club, as allegedly having “dubious business practices” and instead running to EWM/Phillip Day for a loan, that according to the times and the Financial Times has dubious business practices by not paying creditors or landlords and having inadequate working facilities in Bangladesh (and not paying what’s due) while at the same time creating a sub company to transfer the profitability assets too and letting it be ran by Phillip Days mate Simpson?

Does anyone involved or previously involved in EWM have any say in the running of the club? Why is John Jackson still registered as a director?

Who is paying David Holdsworths wages?

What is the plan for succession now. John Nixon mentioned at a fans forum this was nearly done apart from EFL logistics. Is this now dead?

Why did the club quickly remove sponsorship from football index a disgraced company yet still keep EWMs another disgraced company?

How much is the Thomas Graham’s shirt sponsorship worth? Was it a desperate situation trying to find someone, why wasn’t it tendered out?

Trust

What is with all the diversity stuff lately and trying to implement it on everyone? Why did you deem it necessary to dictate a policy to all cusg groups and why did you feel it necessary for all groups to share data?

Why has the Director of Football and/or other members of the club's hierarchy refused interviews with Jon Colman throughout 2021?

Why have we not heard a peep from Nigel Clibbens or David Holdsworth for months?

Why have the 2019/20 accounts still not been released when we are in April 2021?

On the 27th March when we lost at home to Cambridge, in his post match interview, Chris Beech stated that "they (the owners) are very pleased on how it (the season) has gone.

Is this true?

How do they feel that we have probably blown a golden opportunity for promotion, having topped the table at New Year.

(Admin Edit. Month changed to March as said Jan originally.)

Why don’t you ask that question to the trust directly on their forum or whatever means they communicate on.

Simple: everyone gets to see the answer.

Not just me that’s interested on that one. There’s a few including some cusg members that’s advised me to ask it.

The cusg members can’t ask for themselves directly at meetings?

But as for simple you could always ask them directly and post your findings their response on here,

No Bumble has never asked me to ask a question ever.

In terms of the trust question, it’s not the initial question that I was told to ask but rather advised by a cusg member that questions on that subject are welcomed .

It’s sad, to me, out of the questions I asked the only one to be discussed is a simple one to the trust. Unless someone has an invested in it it seemed a pointless waste of time. However there’s a lot of that going on with the trust and cusg.

Apart from Dan/Mouldy the messsgeboard reps any project hasn’t been completed, admit not at a lack of effort by some, whereas they’ve completed two the flags and the shirts, I’m no idea what the rest do apart from tittle tattle and go off on a tangent to fuel their own ambitions.

It’s also sad that we’ve had nearly a year without questions and there’s hardly any. If you don’t ask questions clubs can feel they can do whatever they want, such as form a completely new league. To be fair they can do what they want and we/fans have little say anymore at least there’s a small chance to vent anger and suspicion.

What Richard is saying, in his roundabout way, is he’s asked me in a personal capacity about the Trust and their Diversity thing recently. I can give him a personal view, but he want’s to hear off the Trust themselves as to what it’s about. Therefore I said to him he’d better asking them himself, either directly or via CUSG. He’s chosen to go via the CUSG route as he clearly believes it’s something which should be aired in the open. That’s his wish. We’ll certainly take the Question with us, and hopefully he’ll get the answer that will tell him...

Exactly!

That’s all it was, nothing sinister!

There’s plenty of things I’ve disagreed with Dan on recently such as the deletion of posts from here and discussed and aired our views and our harsh opinions but I contacted him about this because it seemed very odd.

CCU is messsgeboard rep and approachable even with differing views on some things, which is how it should be.

The questions obviously got your back up for one reason or another.

It’s not that I want to be in the “inner circle” it’s I want the best club we can possibly get. Not tittle tattle, time wasting and going off course by a few to further their own careers something we’ve complained our owners do.

Ask what's the club's strategy is to perform better on/off the pitch from here on in?

Not the goal - "we'd like to be a solvent championship club by 2030 etc" - but the specific steps the club are going to take over the next X years?

Be warned any waffle will be interpreted as you're just making it up as you go along.

I do get concerned about who is involved with cusg, the list of attendees and who they represent seems to be over the top.

I’m a very infrequent poster and some of the bile spouted here pisses me off to the extent I don’t want to come on but as a supporter I want to read about the team/club from other fans.

I’m afraid it’s the manner of your posts/questions not just this thread but maybe that’s just me.

You’re right!

We shouldn’t be defeatist but at the end of the day we ask the questions and get rubbish answers and there’s not a thing you can do about it.

I’m losing the will to be bothered as well. Tonight should be a massive game, full of excitement but I ain’t got any. It’s a mixture of a lot of things, not just Carlisle United.

1) did the club have a sufficiently robust covid control policy in place?

2) who was tasked with developing and implementing said policy as applied to the playing and coaching staff?

3) why did the virus cause such catastrophic damage to our playing staff in comparison to other clubs where outbreaks occurred?

Yeah, but I wouldn't need to trawl through 33 pages of the bollocks of a response from Clibbins.
Can you point me to any major information the club have given in response to the hundreds of questions there have been?
Most of the good things that have come from the CUSG meetings have been from the likes of Dan and Mouldy (walls of shirts, disabled shelters, etc). All we have from the club is Clibbins telling us he is not responsible for the pigeon shit fiasco, the fixtures boards farce, how he has a plan for succession, how he has a plan for the ground, etc.
The best off the field thing to happen at the club in years (the flags) did not even involve the CUSG meetings.

Great question Mullen, although hardly a satisfactory answer!! Ah 2015... the year of the Pizza Man and Anfield.

Q: Do the clubs owners feel completely stupid for calling a businessman, wishing to help
the club, as allegedly having “dubious business practices” and instead running to
EWM/Phillip Day for a loan, that according to the times and the Financial Times has
dubious business practices by not paying creditors or landlords and having inadequate
working facilities in Bangladesh (and not paying what’s due) while at the same time
creating a sub company to transfer the profitability assets too and letting it be ran by
Phillip Days mate Simpson?

A: Looking back six years to 2015 is not something anyone has considered. As I have said
before, it is in the past.

On that question I was hoping for an answer on the now and EWM. Things happen and previous comments can bite you on the arse. Enough media companies have called out EWMs dubious practices and non payment, it was more how the owners felt about it now. We weren’t going to get the answer with £2.1 million hanging over their heads though.

As for the Football index and EWM they was the comparison of both companies not paying their creditors. Yes there’s a slight difference.

The issue was football index and no club connections but EWM has.

The club has to lick arse with EWM or pure pay due to the loan. It’s extremely sad and shows to me what we all knew that EWM externally control the club.

I agree very ineffectual response but no more than I expected. It’s the clubs (directors) ball and they will do what they want to do.
In a normal business if you upset a customer you get an obvious response eg lose their business but as supporters it’s difficult to give up one’s commitment.
I did that after several seasons of disappointment and took up rugby.
Seems like these directors are here to stay and if not condoning the run of abysmal results there is nothing from them directly to share the supporters anguish.

What a load of old bullshit.

Our short term objectives are to win promotion to League One and play entertaining football?

Big fat fail there, then.

Also our objectives include bringing our own young players through?

Another fail.

And then Clibbens goes on to contradict Beech's "nobody has had it worse than us" mantra by saying "we can't compare". Right then, which is it?

The reality of the key decisions the club makes does not reflect the guff merrily spouted here. What a waste of time and a total bunch of lies.

Only 14 pages of bollocks this time - he's slipping. He's even got comical Andy involved, who seems to have decided to try and knock Clibbens off his bullshit pedestal
Anyone know what this means
"In our own case, what I believe has been crucial is we have been faced with multiple exceptional issues, not just covid, at the same time – these also followed on from
each other. This has made the extra disruption we have faced deeper and longer lastin
g".
Surely can't mean the training pitch, but puzzled as to what he is actually referring to.

How bizarre. I’m sure I’ve heard CB mention (possibly more than once) the role covid has played in derailing our season. Personally I believe there is at least some truth in that premise...

Am I missing something, or are we the only league 2 club in that position? I’m not aware of many others who are pinning the blame for their shortcomings on covid, certainly not to the extent we are.

If the above is correct, the response to my questions was waffle. I guess the ‘post-truth’ era applies to more than just politics...

Just for you CW, NC has forwarded some more detail.

“I was conscious not to overload (I know some fans think the answers are too long already) - so some bits omitted when I thought they didn’t need repeating again. Apologies ?

Of course any answers I gave can be followed up if further questions arise.

There are 10 clubs in L2 who have had covid lockdowns, stopped training (for differing lengths) and unfulfilled fixtures as a result according to EFL and media reports like CUFC. Including Morecambe, Stevenage, Cheltenham, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Crawley for example. Morecambe’s was just before our outbreak and Cheltenham’s when we were due to play them in early February (postponing our away game).

Some clubs had outbreaks but carried on anyway like Tranmere and Salford.

The multiple exceptional issues not just our covid outbreak I was referring to are :

- three fixtures called off away - crucially when we had travelled. Meaning we had trained, prepared, travelled there ready to play but didn’t play and had to repeat again

- three games at home postponed due to frost. First postponements at home for many years and losing three in a single season was exceptional - worst since flood 5 years ago

- at the same time our training pitch was also frozen for a short period (normal happens every year) when also at the same time all the normal alternative venues we have in place to use in bad weather were unavailable too due their own cv19 lockdowns

- meaning training inside for a short period - pitch size, surface and low roof meaning our normal training and match play practices could not be replicated

All those things on top of our 3 game /10 day covid lockdown it meant

- 27 days without a match with some disruption to training
- 2 games in four days followed by
- another two weeks with no game.

Meaning only 2 games played in 44 days

Then in 71 days we played 21 games

All that adds up to a period of stop, long break with disruption, restart, break again, a second restart, then relentless intense fixture schedule to cram in nearly half a season of games in less than two a half months - that is clearly extraordinary.

Hope that detail helps and explains what I mean by multiple exceptional issues not just Covid, together and then following on from each other.

Have a good weekend
Nigel

That ok for you?!

Nigel referred to Q's re: lack of communication particularly from DH over a few months as factually incorrect, referencing the multi part interview he did a week before the meeting. However when the questions were posed to the messageboard, this interview hadn't taken place! So not strictly factually incorrect Nigel.

Well I've had a quick shufti at the strategic document but most of it appears to be 'strategic objectives' i.e. goals, and little mention of the actual strategy to achieve them...

What I could gather was:

Goal: Sustainability (pg 3 of pdf) Achieved By: Spendling less on footballers "reducing our Total football Expenditure and Player Costs to more affordable levels"
Goal: Get to League 1 (pg 5 of pdf), Achieved By: "direct as much cash into our football activities as we can"

Basically two of their main methods to achieve objectives are in opposition to each other

:)

More pony to be honest. Most teams played Saturday Teusday for a long time.
Is this what our CEO is employed for - to find reasons to defend the performance on the pitch?
And if we have problems with the training pitch every year, why has he not done something about it. Is Carlisle the only City that gets frost.
It's simply reasons to justify mediocrity, and not very god ones at that.
How does it work wth the minutes, as intrigued to find out how Clibbens has corrected/supplemented his speel.
