If we are serious about promotion and our intent what do we need to do with players we need to recruit and their positions and who do we let go.

Obiero and malley have been pretty poor loan signings so can’t see them staying

Dickenson and Walker returning from injury will likely mean Obiero and Malley go back. I’d say Dewhurst will also go back, there’s no cups for him to play in so can’t see him getting any chances. We have Farman and Norman which is enough.

Have a feeling Gavin Reilly might get a move back up Scotland so we can bring in another number 9. Not sure how I feel about it as I think there’s a player in Reilly, unfortunately it just hasn’t happened for him when he’s had his starts.

Every year we discuss what we need to do in the January transfer window and what happens?

We end up with losing a shed load of players and signing a load of shite.

I hope it is different this year.

In recent years when we’ve been at the top end of the table we usually weaken the squad in January. Where as if we’re in a relegation battle (last season for example) we try to strengthen the squad in January.

I hope we buck the trend this time and at least try to keep the squad quality as it is and maybe even add some extra quality. Who knows though. It would not surprise me one bit if we do lose players and end up weaker.

I hope we dig in and invest in this. For the first time in a long time I feel good about this. But we cannot be a selling club the next year. I would give these guys a go and maybe let a few go. We have Dixon and Charters not behind and watching the Fa youth cup under 18,s tonight gives me hope for the longer term future. The structure is there, youth is given a chance and we have the right coaches. Seems that people and persons are hungry at the club. I believe Beech has something to do with it.

Out of the pros - Charters, Dixon and Armer all great young prospects only 18/19 years old! I think these 3 all have a big chance at playing at a good level and hopefully with Carlisle.

They are all going to have to be very patient though as current 1st team players keeping them out but from what I have seen Armer could be a left footed Tanner if he is given a run of games.

Ball playing attacking midfielder (are they still called a number 10) and a goalscorer.
Minimum play-offs if we get that.

I would have thought we might have got a top striker in from Leeds with Big Dave's connections at Elland Road.

The hierarchy at Leeds have played Holdsworth like a two bob banjo over the Galloway and McCarron signings.

Wouldn’t be a surprise to see Charters go out on Loan now Dixon is back to fitness.

Hunt maybe too, Hayden, Bennett (If stays) and McDonald all ahead of him currently.

Obiero and Malley would be no loss when their Loan’s are up, and Dewhurst simply won’t get the playing time he needs so unlikely to extend?

Dickenson will be akin to a new signing given he’s missed the entire Season so far, looking forward to seeing how he fits into CB’s plans.

The big Q will be Kayode. Now he’s an U21 will Rotherham want him tested higher? We all remember the Yates kerfuffle...

I think we've got a very strong team, only should be looking for a creative midfielder. The rest of the team looks like it's got a great depth. Maybe we could look into a better left back though as I'm still not 100% on Anderton

Really think CCU has it right here..I would look to trim our fringe players and go with what we have. Even though Anderton today and had a good game we should look at the left back position as I think this a weak point especially when we are challenged with pace. We also need a plan B with Kayode and a contingency plan if big money comes in for one of our players. But hoping this does not happen.

With Tanner likely out for the foreseeable future with his shoulder injury, the performances of whoever deputises at right back might be a factor in what we do in January. If we struggle then a deputy right back could be one of the top priorities.

He’s maybe using his other arm to tweet? :D

It looked bad to me from my view in the paddock, it was last minute but even if it was earlier in the game there’s no way he was playing on with that. I expect he’ll miss Tuesday and will be out for a bit but hopefully not really long term.

Was it Lummy giving beech the names or beech telling lummy. If it’s Lummy it’s probably players from the north east. Harvey Saunders is a shout who looked very sharp against us for Fleetwood, he’s from Durham. Scored two against us in the central league on Tuesday

Lumsdon was saying we should have a closer look at the Stevenage right-back from yesterday, Luther Wildin. Thought he had a solid game given the amount of work he had to get through, only 23 but done nothing of note in his career so far.

Actually heard this afternoon that he is getting a scan this week (tomorrow I’d assume) and the club are extremely concerned about it. Hopefully it’s not as bad as Walker’s shoulder injury but I’d think by that he’ll definitely be missing Tuesday. He will be hard player to replace. Joe Riley has played there in the past if I remember rightly?

I tell you who could be a shout for a signing in January, Will Buckley. Seemingly Beech had a big influence on him at Rochdale, we’ve also a reputation of rehabilitating players careers such a Bridges. He seems to have had a lot of injuries mind.

Our bench today showed that if we’re serious about staying in the upper reaches then we need to bring a couple of bodies in - Tanner and Devine potentially several weeks away so some form of Right-sided defender likely needed.

Hopefully Furman is a small knock and back quickly too.

As said previously, in terms of attack, Dickenson will be akin to a new signing up front...

As I said in the other thread, a right back is needed to provide cover for Tanner. Not that I think Hayden can’t play there but it’s important to keep Hayden and Bennett as the centre back pairing. We’re ok at left back because Armer can cover for Anderton.

Interesting that half way through January into February we play Newport , Cheltenham, Exeter, forest green &Salford just about one after the other. I think it’s likely those games will make or break the season. Have to be taking our chances by then and hopefully have the extra bodies we clearly need. Taking points in those games should set us up for what looks a good run in later on.

Watched the game again today and the Rochdale highlights. Putting emotion aside I think we should go with the squad we have. Yes we looked a little slim today but it looks great we have such a young bench with home grown talent. If Kayode returns to his parent club that is the only player I would replace. I am happy with this team and I think if our youngsters are good enough if given a chance. We have some good players to come back.

Lots of rumours on Twitter tonight that Kayode is going to get a recall back to Rotherham.

I think if it’s a decision that is with the player then I hope he’s keen to stay. Looks like there’s L1 interest but to me that makes no sense. Should Rotherham be looking to involve him in their match-day squad however then I can see him leaving..

This should be the last player we loan from Rotherham however, first Yates and now this. I know JJ only has 3 goals but our squad is light enough right now given injuries and it’s the last thing we need.

Not an impossibility we'll be playing Rotherham next season.

Anyway, Kayode going back would solve a selection headache with Dickenson coming up to full fitness, wouldn't it?

Could we switch Patrick over to the right?

Can someone still in contact with Sam Cosgrove email him everything the Rotherham & South Yorkshire tourist board has to offer in the hope £600k can prise him from Aberdeen and instantaneously solve all of our problems.

If Kayode is recalled by the Millers, I fear we'll look back in May as it being the moment the promotion dream started its long decline.

Kayode going really is a blow. He may not be a goal machine but we don’t half miss him when he doesn’t play.

No doubt he’ll be recalled on the morning of our first game of the year as they did with Yates. And with Toure in France we’re going to have a bit of a problem on Saturday unless Dickenson is ready to start.

I’d hope/expect Beech to have a plan for this happening, but even if he does it won’t be actioned in time for the Walsall match.

For me there’s three players we can’t afford to lose: Guy, Hayden and Alessandra.

Hayden is our colossus at the back and even if we were to lose Bennett, Hayden’s pace can make most defenders look good at this level. Guy keeps up ticking and without him the midfield doesn’t function to the same extent. Alessandra is a majestic footballer and knits the whole attack together, his creative ability means I’m not too worried about kayode as his conversion rate has been poor.

We’re in control, we don’t need to sell and we have to keep the squad together

With the options Hayden and Guy have in their contracts there isn’t a risk of them going for nothing in summer. So no need to cash in.

Alessandra would be free to walk but I don’t think there’d be a queue for him despite his form, plus I don’t think he’d want to go anywhere.

Only concerns for me are Bennett and Kayode.

Unfortunately for us I think Bennett will be off. The lad is a class act and with being out of contract someone will offer him a deal Carlisle cant match!
So for me another CB who can play RB and probably 2 big units who can play up front.

I'm hoping we cash in on Mellish while his scoring form is in recent memory.

We also are in desperate need of a goalkeeper who can command his area and a centre-forward.

Bennett would be a massive loss, he improved us dramatically when he stepped in to the team.
