Funny marks from pigs defence were awful today forwards not much better but we won and could have scored more.

Norman looked like with a few games under his belt he will do ok.
Anderton improved as the game went on but he is starting to make Webster look reliable.

Alessandra has been piss poor since Christmas and Patrick was down with him. Kayode was as ineffective as ever
Surely the man of the match Jon Mellish? The only one who really looked like he cared, changed the game when he came on and got the equaliser. I've criticised him before but I thought he was head and shoulders above today,
And Scott not even worth a run out in an end of season friendly? It's like Beech has decided he wants rid of him and the last thing he needs is for Scott to get a chance and score a hat trick. Which is both cruel and pointless

Beech did the same with Sagaf last season never have him a chance to prove himself don't like players being judges purely on the training pitch.

Norman - 5.5 Fairly solid but two bad mistakes nearly let them in, good penalty save mind you.
Tanner - 7 Looked knackered at the end but took his goal well
Armer - 7 Steady Eddie all game, 1st Choice left back next season without a doubt.
Hayden - 6 Very slow start (unusually) was much more composed later on when the game settled down
Anderton - 4 Absolutely shocking first half, but did improve dramatically second.
Riley - 5 A bit too quiet for my liking today
Guy - 8 Was everywhere MOM for me
Alessandra - 5 Disappointing game, but as with all the players, when we started to play on the ground he was quite a bit better
Patrick - 3 Very rarely I would give a player those markings, but he was running down blind alleys, lost the ball too often, and didn't use his prize asset much at all (his pace)
Zanzala - 4.5 (Not on long enough) woeful penalty.
Kayode - 5 Flattered to deceive today, and I have to agree with a lot on here, if he's not going to be here next season, then what was the point of starting him

Mellish - 7.5 Tightened everything up in midfield, took his goal well and added much needed aggression into the team
Walker - 5 Strange for a sub to get hooked with no obvious signs of injury
Scott - Not on long enough

Beech - 5 Terrible first half, seemed to be set up all wrong. Must have told them to play some 'football' second half, because we were much better. Now Chris I think a lot of us would like to see a bit of "football" next season, we have the players to do it, IMO.

Ref - 8 Probably an easy game to ref, but thought he did superbly.

All in all a very strange game, both teams looked like they couldn't be arsed to be honest, and our defence was giving us more laughs than the 'Morcambe and Wise Show'.
Once Mellish came on and tightened everything up it actually turned into a fairly decent game. we were much better in the second half when we started to play a bit. Which is the worrying thing because time and time again once we start to play football (on the ground) after a half of 'hoofball' we suddenly look a much better side, over to you Mr Beech.

Can the players be arsed to collect their wages? If yes, then they should bloody well earn them.

As strange a game as you’re likely to see. We were a defensive shambles in the first half, yet could have gone in 3-2 up had Zanzala’s penalty not been so uncharacteristically weak and Kayode’s effort not been denied by the woodwork. Improved significantly after the break, but still could have lost the game.

Came from behind (twice) to win the game, something of a novelty! Hit the woodwork twice, gave away a penalty, and basically gave two goals to the opposition away from home (not to mention Anderton’s excellent ‘goal line’ clearance)... then won it at the death.

These marks are tough to assign.

Norman 7 - hopelessly exposed by our faulty towers act at the back in the first half. Not really to blame for giving away the penalty, and saved it well. Has potential to be a solid number one...

Tanner 6 - gains a mark for a well taken winner, but had a difficult time. Think he’s best as a wing back alongside a back 3, with more license to get forward and less emphasis on his defensive work.

Hayden 5 - not sure what he was thinking on their second, and struggled to cover for Anderton’s frailties. His form hasn’t been up to 2020 standards this year. Needs a seasoned pro alongside him, which brings me to...

Anderton 4.5 - if he plays as a CB in a back 4, he’ll be the equivalent of Byron Webster, giving away a goal a game. Can’t deal with balls over the top at all, and needs more cover. Looked far better as part of a defensive 3 on Tuesday, and certainly offers an outlet in defence. Made an excellent clearance (not sure it hadn’t crossed the line, but credit for getting back) which gains him half a mark, and actually grew into the game. Distribution is decent for a defender, but always a worry. If we are to play 4 at the back, I can’t see him as the answer we’d hoped he could be. In a 3, with the right partners... perhaps.

Armer 6 - the best of the back line, steady and mainly read their attack well. Hard pushed to cover for what was happening beside him.

Riley 6 - always wants the ball, and really unlucky not to score a ‘worldy’ with his long range effort that hit the bar. Struggled defensively until the introduction of JM.

Guy 7 - frustrated by his teammates lack of vision when he found space on multiple occasions. Always a threat, and hungry for the ball - as with Riley though, I thought he struggled defensively until Mellish entered the fray.

Alessandra 5.5 - took his penalty well, a few nice touches, kept going but seemed a bit of the pace in patches

Patrick 5 - I just can’t explain this lad. He has pace, and defenders are genuinely afraid of him. Trouble is he seems afraid of them too. Perhaps he’s got issues off the field, but whatever is happening he needs to find a better mindset and start producing. Has potential, but looks frightened of it.

Kayode 6 - unlucky not to score, and though it seems he’s conserving himself still offers more than any other attacker

Zanzala - no rating. Earned the penalty, then promptly missed it. Injured soon after, so unfair to give a grade.

Mellish 8 - I don’t care if I’m the only one who sees it this way, but he was the best player on the park today. Added drive and strength to a midfield which was being cut apart before his arrival. Worked tirelessly, drove us forward, and gave their midfield as tough a time as they gave our defence. Another goal to add to an impressive tally, and I’m seeing him as a massively underrated asset at the moment. He’s not always been utilised to his strengths this year, but will hopefully grow further.

Walker - ? A neat back heel, a wasted chance from 15 yards, a half arsed challenge, then substituted. Weirdly typical of the game itself,

Scott - no rating. Is he part of CB’s plans? There’s nothing left to play for, surely worth a game against Walsall?

Strangely entertaining, if more than a little frustrating at times.

Think the problem for JM is that he’s been asked to step up to league standard whilst being used in multiple positions. Attacking midfield, for example, doesn’t come naturally to him and highlights his weaknesses (mainly his touch and passing). But his work rate is phenomenal- though that isn’t always as easy to spot via Ifollow as it would be at the game. He has an uncanny knack of getting into good positions, and his strength and determination on the ball often see him bulldoze through a challenge. He breaks up opposition play on countless occasions, enables his teammates in the middle of the park to express themselves and our midfield three just doesn’t look the same without him.

I’ve had criticism of him myself, and he can be frustrating. If he had a better first touch and better passing range, he’d probably not be here

I'm loathe to dish marks out like confetti just because a player runs about a bit and actually gives a [censored], that should be the minimum.

Guy really disappointed me today, not with his effort or positioning, but with his use of the ball. He'd look a much better player if he took a touch and passed the ball rather than launching it forward aimlessly all game.

That’s the beauty of our game - no two people see things identically. I agree regarding dishing marks out for running - but I felt Mellish’s running today was intelligent and effective - both going forwards and defensively.

Our worst midfield performance of the season was the home game against Orient when Mellish was dropped.
