What makes you think the board wants promotion?

I see there is the usual array of people embarrassing themselves on Twitter, all but on their knees begging an ex-player to return.

If gethin has gone to tranmere as rumoured and Webster yet to sign a contract there’s money there. Webster was one of the highest earners last season and gethin will be on a decent wage. Use that money on devitt. If the board want promotion get devitt, a player whose desperate to be here. Holdsworth job is negotiating and he’s managed it seems to mess it up with devitt twice now. I understand EWM wanted a DOF but Holdsworth isn’t doing a good job. He’s got to go.

Webster not signing would be the best news I can think of.

You've got a lot to learn Aberdeen about how our BOD works. What's good for them comes first and dipping into their pockets for a promotion push doesn't come into it.

Any other club the attendances would've dropped a lot more than ours have. Their is one goal, stagnation.

As far as our board is concerned, the football stuff costs an arm and a leg and distracts from some nice scran and hob-nobbing.

I told you last week.

Why would he consider coming back, unless it was too good a deal to refuse. His agent has probably been chasing any club with gaps in their squad so that he can top up his own cash fund.

If Devitt wants a move away he's going to have to take a pay cut, any moves outside the Premiership are going to be on deals a lot less than pre Covid ones.

Unless he gets a longer deal, which will guarantee him a wage for at least a year longer than he's currently on he'll end up on loan again. There be more than us making derisory offers for the next few years.

Does this work?? - All he originally wanted, before leaving, was a 2 year contract on the same wage. Presumably a 1 year deal now, on his old wage. Plus the year he just had elsewhere (on a higher wage?) = a good deal

Never say Never but it is looking very unlikely Jamie will be back. Unless the club actually realise he is one of the best players at this level we can get and he actually wants to come here there must be some compromise from our side. Players like this don't come along that often.

why shouldn’t the board want promotion, they are fans after all and should want THEIR team to win games. I don’t think they were aiming for promotion last season, last year seemed to be a balance the books job. Cheap, talentless players who would go at the end of the season to start with a clean slate. That’s what it looked like to me. Surely the money raised by the trust and any money from the tickets that weren’t sent back should go towards something the fans want rather than the board it their money. Did Lummy not come on here a couple of months ago saying the EWM deal was almost done?

If Bolton’s interest is serious I think it will be extremely difficult to get him.

Except he might want to come here and not Bolton...but he lives in the Manchester area unless hes moved recently

Why would he want to come back? If we still had a squad full of his former team mates/buddies that might pull him towards us, but even if we matched a Bolton or Tranmere offer I'm sure he rather stay closer to home.

And while Holdsworth’s one year contract policy last year got loads of flak, with hindsight and Covid-19 it’s turned out to be a sound move. Imagine if we’d had had the likes of Elliott and NKP here for another season...

I can understand being cautious in handing out 2 year or more contracts to unproven players or players with dodgy injury pasts. But Devitt is proven quality at this level, you know what you’re going to get, you know he’ll score and create goals. There isn’t much of a risk imo.

The problem is if you listen to Holdsworth talking about Devitt last summer, he genuinely thinks we offered him a 2 year deal. He said something along the lines of “it was a 2 year deal,it was 1 year with an option that would have been taken up, so it was a 2 year deal”
No it’s not David, it’s only a 1 year deal with only the possibility of an extra year. Every contract whether it be 1 year or 4 years has the possibility of being extended. He must think people are bloody idiots.

We’re probably going through this same shit again. Devitt will rightly want a guaranteed 2 years, but deluded Holdsworth will be spinning this “but it is effectively a 2 year deal” shit, we’ll be going round in circles until he signs for someone else, then we’ll end up with some low quality alternative.

If he did go to Barrow (Who train in Rochdale remember) we could maybe go back in and offer more than 73p and some milk bottletops for John Rooney...

Maybe a move for Kyle Dempsey would be worth a shot.
