It's nearly that time again and I've laid my bet for the new season at the bookies. I'm really uncertain hows things will pan out this season. i've seen only the one game at the Reds so its hard to judge. The Bookies are rarely far wide of the mark and the odds on promotion this year are way shorter than last year. I got 33-1 for the title last year and this year its around 16-1. That seems strange as I don't think this years squad is as strong as last years and the lack of any real experience is a worry. There's a lot of promise in the younger players but there seems to be a lack of a leader on the pitch for me. I think we will struggle upfront, losing Zanzala whilst not disastrous will still be a miss and we look a bit lightweight up front. I was surprised Toure was offered a contract and maybe playing him down the middle may be more fruitful. Defensively I think we have 2 very good full backs in Tanner and Armer, Hayden is still improving and Feeney looks good if he can stay injury free. I'm relatively happy with the midfield so I think we need to strengthen up front and wide. Hopefully a couple of good loanees will come in to bolster the squad. So not as confident as last year so far... but some good loanees may just bolster things going forward. I've had a cheeky £10 at 11/2 on a top 3 finish.... here's hoping..

I think you sum it up fairly well. We lack experience and a bit of strength in depth.

If Beech has faith in the younger lads like Charters, Dixon & Bell then that's fine, but they possibly can't deliver every week.

I think we need one more in defence, midfield & up front. Wouldn't mind them being loans but there may also be Bennett types lurking who aren't fixed up yet.

I am not hugely optimistic but we have a nucleus of fairly solid, established players.
With talk of other clubs being in financial dire straits and the usual churn of players on short term deals, its possible that our more settled squad (and manager( are the reasons we are rated a top half team by the bookies.
We do look very short in attack, but I suppose you would like to think there are plans afoot there.
Hard to confidently predict finishing higher than mid table but you don't have to be that amazing to make the play offs in our league.

Why do you think we will struggle upfront?

Clough and Mampala are promising to be Bridges and Hawley (well let's hope so lol)

Like you've both said, we've not a lot of experience and if we get a few key injuries, we've only got young inexperienced lads to take their place. Saying that I'd love to see the local lads given a chance in the team.

With how things of been at the club for the last few years, anything from mid table upwards will be regarded as a good season. We need to finish the season better than we have lately. I'd rather be top of the league in April than top at Christmas!

If you give the bookies £10 on us to win the league or get promoted the bookie gets to keep £10.

I think it is a massive game of chance. If Mampala, Feeney, MacDonald, Norman, Clough, Guy can stay fit and play well I think we could be in the top 5. If we are leaking goals and can't score, we could be bottom 5. I guess the reality will be somewhere in the middle, 12th.

Strangely Whelan could be critical. If he can get his game up we'll have cover/ quality in defensive mid, right wing back, right back and centre back. My CUFC dream therefore would be he is player of the season. My other dreams remain those other er things

If we do not start the season gunning for promotion then what is the point, Morecambe's main objective was to stay in the league and they got promoted - we didn't and our aim was to go up.

I think around 17th and we will have a manager change long before we slump to this position.

I don’t get the negativity. This is the time to be hopeful and back the team instead of this diatribe.

I cannot comment as not seen the team live, my first will be at Swindon which I hope will be a good indication of how we are looking, but really give it half a dozen games before you bin us.

Cumbria is full of sheep as is this site.
One person says need a striker and we all go. ‘Need a striker’. Why?
I watched Abraham’s a lot previously, as mate a County fan, he is better than Zanzala for me.

I know friendlies are not a good indicator but 20 odd goals won’t have done any harm to the teams confidence.

We need a defender, is that because of all the batterings we have had these last few weeks?

Just for once let’s have full support for the team until they prove not to deserve it.

I don’t think these guys will let us down.

You say you don't get the negativity and then you state that you haven't seen us play.

It is your prerogative to be positive I reckon, many others would say that your head is firmly stuck in the sand.

If we had gone out and brought in shedloads of new quality signings then you would have me waxing lyrical about the coming season, but we haven't so I wont.

Accusing people of being sheep because they don't share your blind enthusiasm is a little insulting I think.

I bow to your knowledge and experience of the world and I am sure you have seen Carlisle live (2 or 3 times) perhaps in pre season but other supporters around the UK manage to see videos, listen to radios, read about the team and talk to mates about some of the players such as my Forest mate with Clough.

I get to see about 18 games a season sometimes 20.
So I guess you have more right to trash the team than me as you go to all home games.

Frankly, I couldn’t give a toss, do one
Mr Negative.

Just to addd to that. I am sure Morecambe and Cheltenham fans were expecting promotion last year, I doubt it. But probably like all fans at this time of year, they hoped.
Try it, you never know

And there we have it.

The typical 'If you do not think like me then you are an idiot' bigot type.

With receiving abuse like that for giving my honest opinion there is no wonder people are leaving and nobody posts anymore with your sort on here.

Stuck in the sand and all that bolloxs isn’t polite. Read your post.
If you want polite be polite. Not hard

Where does it say I think your head is stuck in the sand - I said the opposite and that it was your prerogative to be positive?

So go on then there it is - where does it say that I said that your head is stuck in the sand?

It doesn't does it....

You are nothing but a liar.

I only hope that you are not as vile and abusive to your family members as you are to people on here, I can only imagine that you are.

Vile and abusive to my family, little over the line there.
But you are very polite in all aspects. I will just stick my head back in the sand.

Anybody that is reading this will clearly see that I did not say that your head was stuck in the sand and will be laughing along with me at your lies you vile little man.

Another thread spoiled by someone losing the plot.

And again I said 'I hope that you are not' and 'I can only imagine'.

Give Specsavers a call because you clearly cannot read.

This is the last I have to say for the moment on this matter as I do not think that it is fair for your sort to spoil any more threads.

Cheers Nobby - I thought that I had just got the [censored] to calm down, that bit of negativity will only bring him back again like a wasp....

Most folk think we’re poor up front and strong at the back.

I actually think we’ve got enough in attack but are short at the back. The two first choice full backs are good, Hayden is excellent, but Feeney seems to be injured again and I am concerned about Corey Whelan as a centre back, I’m not sure he’s physical enough for what you need as a L2 centre back. Set pieces are a big part of league 2 and I think we’ve lost a bit of aerial dominance. Rhys Bennett was quick, big, strong and good in the air. I think we’ll miss him more than some might think.

I genuinely haven't a clue. There's a lot to like but some weaknesses too, I'm hoping for a couple more players yet, preferably signed but if loans so be it. At the moment though I haven't a clue on the opposition. A few folk think it will be tougher this season but I haven't seen any squads that look particularly strong yet.

Give it ten League games, see how the squad fits together, then we may have some idea, Whatever, this time next week, we will have seen a proper football match, hurrah!!!

Think you said similar last season Nobby! :D
The 'custodians" don't sack managers that soon anyway.
