Is there room at the Sands Centre?

Sort of thing that could be incorporated into a wider development? Maybe beside a Football Ground?!

Maybe our mystery developer could suggest this...

While cutting essential services like fire stations police jobs etc....how many fecking pools are in carlisle.....

Just the one public pool mark. The others dotted about are for people with the various gym/leisure club memberships but in some cases will let you in for an inflated price.
The last time we attended the public pool was the last we will visit.
Now we periodically hire out a private one for the hour. Arkleby being the best of the bunch in that arena.

James Street is well past its sell-by...

I always thought the land/car park across from the shepherds inn would be good for pool & ice rink facilities.

Fookin typical, swanky new offices gettin built yet they're trying to cut the fire service and elderly care back. Unbelievable!

Think it is a brilliant idea. Great exercise for young and old. If you can persuade people to go 2 or 3 times a month it will pay for itself in NHS savings. Why is it even a question whether we build this when we can spend 100bn on Trident, Syria etc etc etc

And the care homes that are gonna go ( know some that already will be thats part of cuts). Building a shiny new pool is certainly summet that folk with jobs under threat do not want to hear right now

what kind of point are you trying to make? we know the cuts are horrible and shouldn't be done to fire services but once against this has nothing to do with it, the cuts are not caused by building a new council office, so your continued point is completely pointless as its out of context, the council are now having to find ways to save money and building a new council office will help, it will reduce the amount of cuts which are made so therefore its not having a negative effect.

Missed the perfect opportunity when they shut the County Garage, before DFS moved in.

A new pool will have such a small impact on the overall health of the area it will be virtually zero.
The loss or reduction of key services is horrendous for people that currently rely on them. It remains to be seen wheather these services will ever return.
Personally i would like a pool but surely this is a 'wish list' item as opposed to more essensial services.

This may seem controversial, I believe news like this is actually politically motivated as per usual. Tory govt says to labour council, "you must make cuts". Labour council says "Ok, we'll cut some essential services". And there's the headline. And the same council then suggests building a new swimming pool?

And for those opposed to it think about future generations instead of wetting the bed when a forward step for the city is proposed .

some people on here would still be living in a cave as building a house would use up energy which could be used for hunting

Considering most on here don't think the viaduct site is feasible for a football stadium & adequate parking I'm not quite sure how they would incorporate a new pool, ice skating rink etc on there.
I do however think the Council, Club and potentially a developer should be looking to work alongside each other to bring this all together into one location the obvious problem being finding a suitable sized site.
