Was thinking about seats in some of these grounds which are gonna be knocked down,do some get binned completely ? I know some fans buy individual seats for home. What about other clubs who are in need of things for their grounds.Surely with all the money floating about old (or modernised)seats from old stadiums could go to non league clubs for nowt.. or even other stuff too. Who knows more about this process??

I know of a few things passed down but teams have had to pay for them, you are right they should be offered to help non-league sides. Our floodlights are Sunderland's old ones, The score board at Mansfield was the wembley scoreboard

The seats at the Waterworks End were from Feethams weren't they?

I always thought that was a bit of a shan but I suppose it was a cheap option.

The floodlights are not from Sunderland, we bought the same floodlights as were in Munich ( for the Olympics) also Aston Villa.
Ours were shortened years later because there developed a crack in the pylons.

Pretty sure some of the floodlights are from Sunderland. When we had the raffle a few years back to raise money to bring the floodlights back up to League 1/2 standard, I'm sure we got a decent deal to have Sunderland's old ones.

EDIT: It was the lamps.

!“We are grateful to Sunderland Football Club for the help they have given us with our upgrade, he continued. “They changed their system recently and we were able to get some of their old lamps at fairly short notice. This has reduced the cost of the upgrade programme from £40,000 to just over £25,000. "

I'm sure they knocked Nene Park down because people were trying to break in/climb over, Obviously safety fears that someone might hurt themselves.

Last week the MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, Tom Pursglove, said he had been unsuccessful in convincing the stadium's owners to save at least part of the ground for community use.

Too late Mark its all gone now

The people who own it are complete arseholes

The local council offered to swap them the stadium for a piece of land nearby thats twice the size that already has planning permission. and they refused.

And i know they seriously got burnt in what happened before but couldnt Doc Martens/ Max Griggs have bought the stadium and donated it to the community ?

But youre right youd of thought the seats and stuff would have been sold off but no they just demolished it as it was. The bit that surprised me is that no body bought the stand roof structures as they could easily of been rebuilt to cover say open terracing or even incorporated into a new stand

Yep roof structures could have been used elsewhere at needy clubs. It seems such a waste though.. that ground was young in age. Nice and compact.

The big clubs that modernised grounds after the taylor report then got shot ..i really hope parts went to fans not to waste. So many new stadia but so much waste i reckon.. its all a shame.

I hope the day we move (chances are i be dead by then) the terracing parts could help small local clubs and perhaps other useable assets.

If you want to see wastes of stadiums just look over the pond in the US, a lot of their stadia are built with lifespans of about 20-30 years before they knock them down and build a new one, often in the car park of the original ground.

Well i doubt anybody would of complained if we.d bought that structure and erected it at the waterworks end but from what i read the owners were asking stupid prices and were happy to wreck it rather than sell for less than what they thought it was worth.

Its a bit strange tho as last summer Accy had 1500 seats to get rid of and in the end couldn't even give them away. The ones from the Clayton End being less than 5 years old and hardly overused so its hard to work out just what the clubs further down the pyramid want.

Been involved in a bit of this lately as Wealdstone were looking to do something similar.

Barnet approached us with regards to Underhill, and asked if we wanted to buy any of the stands, we looked at the big stand behind the goal at the Underground end, and Barnet said it was ours for 100k.. We spoke to four specialist firms who erect and dismantle this kind of thing, to get some pricing.

To dismantle, transport and erect the stand ranged from 180k through to 245k, add in the original 100k and you are talking a serious amount of money.

We then spoke to firms who do the manufacturing and fit out's of brand new spanking stands, and for the same capacity, we were quoted 600k all in. A grant if successful from the football foundation will give you 40% of the cost (you can't apply for grants for used or second hand). So for 360k, we could have a brand new stand, built to spec, with no hassle. It's a no brainer.

West Ham and The Olympic Stadium had seats going free of charge, on the proviso you collect yourself, the cost is astronomical to do this, with no financial help available for non-league clubs, that's why no-one takes them when they are offered.

That said, I believe Exeter have bought Barnet's terracing from behind the goals where the new stand has gone up.

Moose just out of interest has Underhill not been sold and built on yet then ?

Was the new stand you had a quote for a " metal " one like the new Barnet one or a traditional concrete construction one ?

Barnet are in the process of selling it, as they are building a new school on the site. Some of their Academy and Ladies teams have been using it since they moved out.

Stand is a modular steel construction, everything is taken apart from the concrete. Large part of the costs of the move are the construction of the pilings the stand sits on which have to match up and be attached to the stand.

Cross purposes i think i was asking about the new one you were considering building was that concrete or metal construction.

The reason i ask is that i understand big problems are brewing in relation to the metal stands that Salford are building and the grants that theyre getting for them and the fact that the company manufacturing and installing them appear to have been economical with certain facts to do with the grants

Harlesden is a dump and a half. On a par with Leyton. Both are sadly shadows of what were undoubtedly once lovely areas to live...

I was in Harrow for just over 4yrs UD, before moving over to Leyton for just under 2yrs...

Oh christ they waste them big style like over there... The georgia dome is atlanta is being replaced by the mercedes benz stadium next door and thats under 20 years old.. crazy
Same has happened in Denver and New York..new grounds right next to the old one.
At least Miami upgraded by putting a very smart roof structure on the ground...it looks like a proper footy ground now...
I think Gillette stadium is an upgrade too.but wukkie will.probably know the answer to that

Patriots stadium is a new build built directly where the old Foxboro stood although I can't remember NE having to play elsewhere. As for the Georgia Dome, looks nowt wrong with it on the telly but the roof they're putting on the new dome looks fantastic opening out like some kind of exotic flower.

It certainly beats the Wembley roof!

Yeah read a bit over the weekend how theyre scrapping stuff they could have sold in the rush to get the thing flatened

Those roof trusses are worth half a million quid intact but only about a third as scrap

Any lower league club with aspirations of improving themselves especially in the London area should have jumped on this.

As I explained further up Munchy, to be fair most of the large Prem clubs will actually give stuff away FOC to the smaller clubs, but it proves too costly to dismantle and reassemble.

Watford offered Wealdstone their old electric scoreboard when they built the new stand, FOC, it would have cost us the best part of 25k to get it taken down and put back up and re-programmed.

Not viable when the money can be used elsewhere.

Before people complain that seats are being thrown away, try getting a quote to move and install say, 500, from WHL to South London. I'm willing to bet you wont get a price below 10k. Its easier for teams to apply for grants and put in brand new seats.

Moose, I doubt you'd get a quote under £10,000 for moving 200 seats never mind 500. Logistically, I think removing and re-installing can work for around 200 seats for a smaller club if they can get a wealthy backer to pay for it and access to a flat bed truck and the right tradespeople.

Waltham Abbey FC bought 200 seats from the old Maine Road in 2005 and created the Maine Stand at their Capershotts Ground near the M25, just north of Enfield. But then their location was perfect for bringing everything together. Sadly WAFC haven't needed to enlarge their stand since.

The money thats floating about in football is scandalous enough... theres more than.enough to help smaller clubs regardless of costs.its small change in reality.
