They've offered him a 5 year deal. They want Paul Cox to be his replacement and it'll take that long for his interview.

First time in a while some other club has came in for one of our managers, wasn't it Notts County that came in for Curle last season?

Not that that Curle deserves a massively longer contract but Greg Abbott won a cup and managed us in a higher league and still nobody was daft enough to come in for him, even when he left.

Greg didn't do himself any favours with the media though either did he, there was always that answer he would have for JP 'have you ever played professional football then James' and if you didn't he would give all that 'you know nothing' crap.

Keiths interviews may be not what you want to hear sometimes but they are still better than Greg who was predictably in a good mood when we won and was a bad tempered idiot when things didn't go well for us - Kavanagh just came across as a grinning fool.

Giving him a deal now would be silly, Got to see how the first 4-5 months go and then address a longer contract.

I would give him a years extension with options tied in, if he is looking to buy a house up here then there is obviously loyalty needed on both sides.

With the current squad and a few additions, if we got relegated then he would probably be one of the worst managers that we have ever had but I couldn't see that happening, probably mid table at worst and a few people moaning which the board will see as a decent season.

As we don't know Curles budget for next season, compared to last then I guess that nobody can put an expectation on him just yet.

Budgets got nothing to do with it, Even if people believe that bullshit about 12th-16th. Accrington nearly got out of this league on a shoe string, They weren't far off the play-offs last year either.

Thats one of the daftest things ive ever read on here. Championship winner Newcastle LARGEST BUDGET League 1 winner Sheff Utd LARGEST BUDGET League 2 winner Portsmouth LARGEST BUDGET. Cant have had anything at all to do with them having the largest budgets though surely?

Lakesblue1 has got a hell of a point though, Accy have done bloody well over the last couple of years, on an absolute shoestring, and if it wasn't for Coleman's comments about the floods, then I would have seriously considered him for our next manager, he's worked wonders IMO.

Total cnut - I wouldn't want him near the club.

He could have called us a small club or whatever to try to wind us up but bringing the flood into it crossed the line.

You could say Accrington have a hell of a lot better catchment area than us, and apart from the odd exception budget makes a hell of a difference.

Coleman's comments about the floods were blown out of all proportion by our fanbase.
All he said was that when our pitch was unplayable we got to use other stadiums, when their pitch was unplayable they got a fixture backlog. I know the 2 scenarios are completely different, so his opinion was wrong, but it wasn't offensive FFS

You'd think he'd supported a terrorist attack the way people were reacting.

A catchment zone is determined by an area and competitors , around them, this means although a lot of large towns exist around Accrington they all have football clubs they are all bigger and Accrington's catchment zone will barely cover the Accrington it's self . Where as in Cumbria Carlisle gets fan from dumfireis , wigton ,Penrith, workington , Keswick, Whitehaven , silloth, aspatria , hexham , gretna. As a study shows Carlisle has a huge capacity to grow as a club we just need a ambitious board to invest in selling the brand .

Yeah Coleman has been a great manager for them in fact if he had a lot higher budget he'd have done even better. Having a good manager is the key fact but no one (well obv 1) would argue that also having a good budget would have a big say in where you finish.

We're talking about catchment areas regarding player recruitment happyblue, Accrington have a hell of a chance of picking up better cast-offs/loanees.
What you're saying about catchment areas for support is correct though.

Keith has seen in his time a rebuffed deal from Laffy, a mysterious pizza man farce and possibly Ronald McDonald next knowing them three, cannot wait to see what imaginary character they will be inventing next to stop that PD getting his grubby little hands on their club.

Once anyone suggests moving SP on and a new role for Nixon then alternative buyers will be coming out of the woodwork and things will be put on hold with the EWM whilst they peruse the offers.

Keith will be thinking, sod this I just want to buy a house in Houghton and let them get on with it.

We do know the budget for next season as things stand now its between 5 and 10% less than last season due to the lack of transfer or cup tie income.

Accrington looked doomed till half way through the season, like Exeter found some form.

We were really lucky to hit the play-offs but then you go into a lottery, two amazing games like and just how football should be - loads of goals as well.

We are probably better off in this division at the moment as we have no coin and if we went up we would probably get spanked every week, no way would Jenkins have pushed the boat out.

Will never understand last seasons failures until maybe Keith leaves and spells it out in a book.

But when the owner stops putting money in you are normally doomed.

Big debt too so not very inviting to purchase.

Not being pessimistic just real and with a few additions we could achieve at least last seasons performance and maybe go one better but it will all come down to finance.

Exactly they dont even go near the schools in Kendal any more theyve just given up on it when they have players driving back past it 3 days a week who cold easily be diverted for a couple of hours once a week. Same goes for travel to matches why not approach Virgin or Transpennine to do a matchday ticket.

Accrington dont really have a catchment area as such theres as many United and City fans around here as there are Blackburn and Burnley and dont forget theres a direct train to both Leeds and Preston as well and Liverpool is only an hour away.so you can see what Stanleys problem is although their low crowds have a couple of other reasons as well one of which was a previous owner who thought the answer to a few incidents was to drive the Ultras away which he did very successfully without realising they were his biggest asset they also have a very poor relationship with the council whos problem is they are called Hyndburn and dont accept the publicity value when Accrington is mentioned in the media although they seem to have come to their senses since Andy Holt took over with the new ground lease and the funding implications that has for the planned stand.

The final issue is the community trust who have to be one of the most pro active and successful around just to stand still but give the PL their due they did put together a scheme that created an area of schools in which the likes of Blackburn and Burnley are no longer allowed to go yet Accy are allowed to run after school sessions in those towns now. Tbh their community trust makes ours look very Micky Mouse as does their relationship with the local college.

But the overriding problem they have is getting people in the town to not just say good old Stanley and pay their gold bond money every week but get down to the ground and thru the gates but for whatever reason thats a problem not unique to them.

But please dont make the mistake of thinking its all down to Jon Coleman and his coaching i think his greater value is really in selling the club to players who maybe have other options and getting them to sign on wages a lot less than others are offering and once he gets them there he builds that "the world is against us mentality " and his rant the other year was just a part of that no more no less.

If you really want to know how they manage to do what they do on a budget a fraction of ours id say its because they are what they call " The Stanley Family" everybody at the club pulls in the same direction which is not one big thing but hundreds of little things just as an example when a kid of say 8 joins their Academy he has a picture taken with Coleman signing the forms as if he were the Billy Kee or Shay McCarten and then at an upcoming match he is introduced to the crowd and thats their introduction to the familiy have you ever seen us do that because i.m pretty sure i havnt.a

Stanley are very active in the community. Far more so than Carlisle. Blackburn too. In my school, both clubs are in doing something just about every week - stanley in particular. And to be fair to them, they are generally very good and great with the kids.
We never hear from Burnley which is strange because Accrington has as many claret fans as rovers.
Accrington try really hard to pick up new or floating fans but are always fighting the tide but at least they try. There are always leaflet drops and deals on to entice folk in. Posters and big adverts promoting the games around the town too. They can't do much more for the size of them. Carlisle on the other hand...

Questioning a genuine blokes credibility then falling for a pile of shite off a pizza man, probably only popped into EWM for a sheepskin coat and ended up mortgaging the ground ffs.

Quality players will be attracted to our club by a number of things, but one of those is the vision KC sets out during talks with them.

How do you expect quality players to commit to the club if they potentially have longer contracts than the bloke that is trying to bring them in ?

We never hear from Burnley which is strange because Accrington has as many claret fans as rovers.
Accrington try really hard to pick up new or floating fans but are always fighting the tide but at least they try. There are always leaflet drops and deals on to entice folk in. Posters and big adverts promoting the games around the town too. They can't do much more for the size of them. Carlisle on the other hand...

Absolutely makes me weep the way we go about stuff. The lack of email marketing, never get anything through the door, never have anything in the centre of town the week before a home game. I can only imagine they spend all their time trying to get match ball sponsors or something because they do huck all to entice new or floating fans.
