TOPIC: Biggest crowd you've been in watching Carlisle

Wembley/Millenium finals apart this game at Anfield could be the biggest crowd I've been in watching Carlisle.

I know we played in front of 60,000 I think when we won at Newcastle in the 60s but that was a bit before my time!

What was the crowd at Goodison a year or two back?

Everton away in FA Cup in 10 was 31,196
Tottenham away in League Cup in 97 was 19,255
Sunderland away in FA Cup in 14 was 21,973

Leeds away in Play-Off in 08 was probably biggest at 36,297!?

Possibly Roker Park for the first of the 2 fa cup ties we played there.
January 1994.The day Edmondson scored the equaliser.
Am sure there was just short of 6 thousand tickets sold for that one.We could have sold the same amount again.
The following year when we played there again it was drastically reduced to around 3500.
Also, did we not take around 5 and half thousand to Bradford's ground when we played Guiseley there in the cup in November 94?

Not sure of the record crowd, but certainly the most squashed crowd was when I was in the R.N. in Pompey and took 3 mates to watch the cup replay at Aldershot . It is still their record crowd of 19,132 . We were all split up and sweating by the end of our win -4-1 if I remember . Been at Hampden with 132,000 , but nothing like that night in the Shot.

Newcastle away 1968. Tommy Murray scored Alan Ross saved a penalty and Peter Garbutt snuffed out the mighty Wynn Davies - happy days! 56,000

There seemed a lot there when we got humped 5-1.

FA Cup home - Liverpool 18,550 and it looked like they could have fit a lot more in the away end of the paddock which looked pretty sparse.

Been to all the Wembley/Millenium stadium finals. But if you can't include them, it's the Leeds playoffs for me.

Looking at some of these crowds, we've done well against some of the bigger teams that dropped into League 1:

2 clean sheets at the City Ground, W2 D1 L1 v Forest in 2 seasons
Last minute equaliser at Leicester
Won at Carrow Road
Beat Southampton at BP
Won at Hillsborough and beat Sheff Wed at home too
Beat Sheff Utd at home, clean sheet away

Not bad really.

Been to all those games listed home and away after 1980. Happy memories. Spurs and Norwich away were great days.

Biggest home crowd I've been in is 27500 when we lost 1-2 to Middlesborough in the 5th round of the FA Cup in Feb 1970. ( We beat them twice in old D2 that season )

Unfortunately I didn't make the Newcastle game Gundog refers to - all my mates were there but I was stuck 150 miles away. So it is probably the 47211 in the FA Cup 4th round game down at Liverpool when we drew 0-0. We lost the replay at BP 0-2 ( 21262 ) It was played in the afternoon because no floodlight games were allowed due to the Winter of Discontent during the miners conflict.

Must be some still around who went to the famous game when we drew away 0-0 with Arsenal in 1951 ( 57932 - 20,900 at replay at BP )

Was also at the two games with Workington in old D4 in 1963

Sunderland H 20.000 can't remember the year.

I just loved going away to watch Carlisle United in FA Cup ties (and still do). Because if you win or draw there’s another game, you lose then that’s it.

I attended numerous memorable “big crowd” away games but in 1974 FA Cup was exceptional. Two games against Sunderland (FA Cup holders) in Round 3, a home draw and an away win. Then two games v Liverpool (First Division Champions) an away draw and a home defeat. These four games (two in midweek) all kicked off at 1.30 and were watched by a total of in excess of 125,000 people.

Liverpool that season went on to win the FA Cup demolishing Newcastle United in the Final 3-0.
Carlisle United went on to win promotion to the First Division.

Was at Wembely for the Birmingham game and that was amazing, missed all the others but took my boys to the Brentford one and that was good but obviously not as good as the other for atmosphere.
