To think some folk were questioning him in the Summer!

Agree he was excellent last night. Very confident and assured.

TBF i could have saved most of the crappy shots they managed to get on target last night.

Given the fact that they had 47 shots, 16 or thereabout were on target, it seems strange that Gillespie would be nowhere near my MOM. He did nothing wrong, and dealt with everything that he needed to (and saved two penalties), but it's a measure of their efforts that next to none of saves needed to be particularly good.

Grant Holt was on Radio Mersey last night. Prompted by the presenter who said it might also be a showcase for our players, Gillespie was mentioned a few times as 'one to watch'.

How long is he under contract with us for?

Contract up in June, 2016.

We'll probably get about £25k if he gans in jan.

Under 24 and we've had him all the way through as a youth plater haven't we? Should fetch a hefty fee if we let it go to tribunal when he inevitably leaves in the summer.

Think Gillespie has potential to be better than Westwood personally...

Think he will only get better and better if he stays injury free. Need to tie him down to a long term contract so we at least get a decent fee for him.

Dunno if agree with he could be better than Westwood ccu,was Westwood not a better player by 24? Westwood was class. Best cufc keeper have seen.

Gillespie's main weakness is the same as Westwood's, and probably the reason Westwood has never made it at the top level, he doesn't command his six yard box well enough. The Barnet game highlighted this, he could and should have come for a lot more of the balls getting constantly pumped into the box, his failure to do so was a major factor in the panic we had every time they attacked.

Good keeper but a lot to learn.

What struck me on Wednesday s how much of the goal Bogdan filled, compared to MG who seemed a lot more athletic and i reckon would have saved our goal (it was only watching t back did i realise it was a near post shot, Bogdan could have been quicker if being critical).

I remember i was listening to a show on 5 live about a year ago where they we talking about how the game has progressed, and one of the things to come out of it was about goalkeepers. What was said is you can now predict how tall a young man can become, and clubs now dont care for any goalkeeper under about 6' 2. It was said that it doesnt matter how good a keeper you can be, if you arent big enough you cant get to those top corners, and so clubs target those who are huge, courtois/krul etc

It was an interesting debate but i cant help but feel this is why MG/KW ended up woth us to showcase there skills rather than higher up

I agree Westwoods size has probably held him back slightly and it might well be the same for Gillespie.

Had he not been injured and Krul had their fates could have been switched very easily. Westwood has been playing out of his skin for the last year, while Krul has been pretty poor to be honest. A number of larger clubs have been sniffing around Westwood recently, including Liverpool... but Wednesday, understandably, are reluctant to sell.
