TOPIC: Player ratings v Newport

Gillespie - 6 - Done okay not much chance with the goal
Archibald Henville - 6 - Looked crocked all afternoon, tried to get forward
Raynes - 6.5- Fair game , looked dangerous at the end and sent in the best crosses all day
Gillesphey - 6 - Tried his best on his full debut
Thompson - 5 - Anonymous for much of the game
Joyce - 5 - Non effective in the midfield
Balanta 5.5 - One good run and shot otherwise not much else
Hery - 6 - Tried hard but with little end product
Brough - 5 - Started off well and got in some decent crosses faded badly
Gillihead - 6,5 Same as Brough but still kept on trying
Ibhere - 6 - Early injury seemed to deflate the whole team when he went off.


Asamaoah - 6.5 - Ran around and got himself about , little chance to score
McQueen - 5 - Ran around a lot
Osei - 4 - Not at all convinced by this palyer

Just shows how people see things different. I thought Joyce was our best midfielder and dont think id have given Brough, Thompson and Balanta 5.5 put together.

the whole team deserves pelters . keith curle deserves pelters . where was the pride passion effort committment today that was in full show at anfield . it is the league that counts . very winnable 3points gone today . NOT GOOD ENOUGH

No it was not good enough Dumfries, I think Newport were underestimated and it was a very disjointed performance by Carlisle.

Watching the game today, i feel that it had a lot of similarities to Wednesday, 1st 20 mins we looked head and shoulders above Newport, but the longer the game went on they realised that they had a chance and grew into it.

Cant really criticise the changes, but ultimately the players didnt perform, Jabo injury didnt help us, didnt do enough to win the game but probably should have got a point.

Positives - Raynes again looked a dominant league 2 defender, also our best attacker last 10 mins when he was up front.
Gillead first half, reminds me of Tom Lawrence, went quiet though and struggled without Jabo

Negatives - Troy, too much time on the ball? Defensively solid but struggled with the amount of ball he had, would prefer to be in the Raynes role at the middle of defence
Brough/Thompson, expected it of Thompson because dont rate him, obviously understand what he has been through but the game passes him by, doesnt cross a ball or go past a man, seems lost on a pitch. Brough just looks like he has lost all confidence, put in a couple of tackles but struggled going forward, one of the few players to go backwards under curle,


Also wish we applied ourselves like Newport did when we were bottom, almost the perfect away performance, just wonder how much Liverpool took out of the 'group'

I don't think Troy fits into our tippy tappy passing game. He is better either bombing forward or hoofing upfield. Thought Gillead faded badly 2nd half. Impressed with Gillphsey ( if that's how you spell it) much better than Grainger. We are lost upfront without Jabo Brough was total rubbish.Poor display all round

We can't play against teams that sit back. Never have been able to for recent history. That was our problem today

one way to describe today, FUCKIN DIRE.....

Gillespie 7 - nothing to do really, made one good save to keep score 0-0, not much chance with the goal
Gillphsey 6 - steady away
Raynes 8 - easily MoM, dominated at the back, made things happen up front. unlucky for goal
TAH 5 - poor game, didn't look comfortable on the ball, too many aimless balls forward
Brough 3 - couple of decent early crosses but for 75 minutes was appalling
Thompson 4 - honestly don't know what he brings to the team
Joyce 7 - best midfielder, neat and tidy as ever but lacked the cutting edge
Heri 6 - started well but faded out the game, should be playing further forward
Balanta 5 - frustrating player, looks like he's got the ability but application not always there
Gillhead 7 - really promising first half but didn't see enough of the ball after the break, goes past folk with ease
Ibhere 5 - looked out of sorts even before early injury

Asamoah 6 - eager as ever but fluffed the few chances he had
McQueen 6 - should have been on far earlier, the only one who looks capable of playing wingback role
Osei 5 - didn't do much, should have scored

Curle 3 - too many changes, wrong selection and made the substitutions far too late. if he's going to play this form of 3-5-2 he needs to find 2 wide players who can actually play the wingback role because week after week they are the weaklinks. also with Ibhere looking like he could be out and Wyke also injured he could do with a big man in on loan, what's the point of getting X amount of crosses in a game if there's nobody on the end of them?

It wasn't just the three points today it was also the two they threw away at York.
Brilliant first half at York brilliant performance at Liverpool then that loaf of cr*p yesterday why?
Should easily been in a play off position now, can only hope the team gets its act together finds some constancy and pushes on.
There is no escaping that the recent boost to the club's funds are merely a sticking plaster over a major wound.
If no new owner materialises we will ultimately end up in deep do do's.

The first thing i thought when I saw the teamsheet was Thomson and Brough on the wing means no supply to the front. Neither is in form.
Brough either hasn't progressed or he was made to look much better than he was last year because of how bad the rest were.
Thomson I don't know his past history with football clubs etc, but I believe he is on the the comeback from serious illness. atm he doesn't look close to the required standard for this club. Maybe more time is needed and he becomes a star for us. i don't see it.
We need at least one effective winger/wing back on the pitch from the start especially at home.

Soon as I saw that Brough and Thomson were playing wing backs I knew we would struggle to produce anything down the flanks.
Brough has been awful all season in that role, mediocre left back fecking rubbish wing back, and as for Thomson he just constantly turns back when in a good position to cross.
If Curle wants to persist with this system then neither of these two should be starters they simply aren't good enough if we want to progress.

The highlights package said it all no threat up front, we don't defend then it's panic at the end. Overall too many poor performances a and Curle needs to look at his as well

Troy hoofing the ball 40 yards then chasing it down himself summed it up for me, Thompson just showed no willingness to get forward when Troy was looking to play him in.

I didn't hear anybody getting on Broughs back, how many of his crosses didn't even beat the first man, apart from 2/3 in the first half his delivery again was mediocre. He looks lightweight and at times lacks the intelligence in terms of making runs and knowing when to drop off.

It's obvious our creative force is going to be Hery, he just needs to produce it for larger periods in the game. Dicker should have been on as his passing normally drives us on and creates chances/attacks, he must have been jaded from the Liverpool game.

Started off really well I thought they looked terrible. Jabo went off and we let them back in the game, we showed no urgency until the last 6/7 minutes which was frustrating. Sometimes we need to just drive on instead of turning and passing it back. Gillespie pass nearly cost us a goal a prime example of game management knowing when to clear the lines.

Dissapointing results and there can be no excuses we were collectively not good enough. Tough couple of games coming up hopefully we can get something out of them.

Possession football was pretty to watch in the first 20 -25 minutes, but ineffective purely because it was mostly in our own half and there was no penetration into the opposition half. Kyle Dempsey could have provided what was lacking so you might ask, what's the possibility of getting him back in on loan, short or medium term? Gary Dicker might have made the difference after an hour, by which time Stevie Rigg should also have been on. There was no real threat to the Newport goal, apart from those few frantic attempts at the end of the game. The defence also needs to learn when to clear it's lines, when to pass outfield. In balance, we are very much a work in progress and time will tell.

Gillespie 7 - One excellent save and pretty solid the rest of the time.
Gillphsey 7 - I thought he showed promise. Has pace and decent distribution.
Raynes 8 - MOM. lead the defence well and dominant in the air.
TAH 5 - I rate him as a defender but he looks like he can hardly walk, never mind run, at times. Just doesn't look fit.
Brough 3 - Very poor performance all round. The lad just hasn't progressed since his fist few games.
Thompson 3 - Poor L2 player. Shouldn't have been given a contract.
Joyce 7 - best midfielder, broke play up well, good energy.
Heri 5 - Went missing in midfield.
Balanta 4 - Poor performance. One decent shot. Again went missing.
Gillhead 7 - Very good start, committing players... ran out of steam after an hour.
Ibhere 6 - Looked like he was carrying an injury before he went down.

Asamoah 5 - Looked absolutely shattered. A couple of very poor misses.
McQueen 6 - still raw but streets ahead of Thompson.
Osei 3 - Terrible miss. Headless chicken. He has great pace and good skill, but appears to have no idea how to use either.

Curle 5 - I have a bit of sympathy for him. He had to make changes as the Liverpool team really took it out of some of the players. The team he picked was good enough to beat Newport... they just didn't turn up... but that often happens after a big cup game. One thing I struggle to understand though... why bring on Osei ahead of Rigg? What has the lad done to him as there is clearly an issue there? Anybody else heard rumours about Curle and Rigg falling out?
