The statement the club have put out is very harsh on the players, basically says that the squad they had didn't have the ability necessary, nor did they have the passion or drive to want to improve themselves.
Also says that they wanted to challenge at the top within 2/3 years, but would never be able to do that with the ability/passion of players available.
To be honest it sounds a lot like the kind of statement our owners would put out.

Agreed that the statement is a touch unfair on the players. Most of these lads play Saturdays at a decent enough standard so I'm not sure how you can call them out for not wanting to travel down to Nottingham or Birmingham on a Sunday afternoon.

It suggests an element of 'run before they can walk'. It might have been easier to motivate people / accommodate the unsocial hours and the like if there was a small pay packet involved. Going to be very hard to claw back the initial goodwill from the League 'cos if I recall correctly, it was a bit of a surprise that Carlisle were given the league place - a decision based on promises/ambitions Carlisle were making.

Okay then... Seeing as no-one else has... I'll ask... What on earth is Futsal anyway? It sounds like table football, but I guess it isn't.

In a nutshell, it's indoor 5-a-side.

Its a 5 aside game with some specific laws such as only one player can try and tackle the player in possession. The ball is size 4 and doesn't bounce as much as a normal ball so a greater degree of passing accuracy and skill is involved when dribbling past a player. The Latino countries are excellent at it. Youth Leagues at under 12 are now using it in winter. Its an excellent way to develop skill, touch and passing ability. Players who are naturally smaller in build who were classed as not being big enough for the pro game are suited to it.

1) We have folded the first team not the Club. The first team were not demonstrating the commitment needed to allow them to improve as a team. This combined with a change in circumstances of some key people meant there was no longer any time or value in continuing to fight this problem. We now focus and invest in creating a generation of young Futsal players who will have what it takes to go on and compete at the highest levels. There is no element of running before we could walk. We just hadnt expected the group to lack the commitment needed to improve. They were provided with everything they needed to go on and achieve but failed to apply themselves.
2) None of the players expected to be paid. We would have split a bonus pot between the squad at the end of the season if tickets sales for home games were good.
3) Futsal is a huge spectator sport particularly abroad. We sold out all our games.
4) Bit worrying that the post detailing the disbanding of our first team gets more comment than any of our other posts explaining the opportunities and rallying support. Says everything that needs to be said about the difficulties we have faced in getting the club to where it is but that was a battle we took on so no complaints!
5) The statement is not directly aimed at our players, in fact they deserve some credit for trying the sport where others wouldnt. It is generally aimed at a wider English cultural problem of a lack of desire to succeed. We have everything too easy here and that feeds right through to attitudes in society and Football in my opinion.
6) Fatboyslimpost - Futsal and football are completely separate sports with different fitness, technical and tactical demands. Futsal players are typically big strong guys, you might get some wingers who are more slight but they are definately not as you describe. At the top level non are failed footballers although in England thats what we are left with because nobody grew up playing the sport, its new here. Our new aim is to change that for the next generation.
7) We werent playing any professional teams. We were playing teams full of experienced players and foreign players who grew up playing Futsal . These teams were beatable with hard work and a Futsal education in place. We did not expect to beat these teams this year though perhaps 2-3 years time. We could have taken points from a few of the teams in the league this year who are at our level. Getting beat off Birmingham 15-2 was as we expected, they have 4 players just released from Barcelona in their squad! The issue we have as a club is that the players did not turn up to training to allow us to improve them. If there is no intention to improve then there is no reason to invest time and money into it. That would be stupid.
You need to have walked in our shoes to understand, I appreciate that.
The focus now is a long term one where we educate kids in Futsal so that in 10 years time we dont face the same challenges in establishing the sport that we do now.

Sounds like an indoor form of street football that the UK generally has no aptitude for. No northern European country is in the top 25 globally according to wiki. Best left to the foreigners.

We had a narrow defeat at Sheffield (3 times northern champs btw) and got well beat by Birmingham who were another level. Both defeats expected and part of the teams development.
We had a full analysis package done for the game so we could analyse what the other team did well and what we didn't. The plan was to work on our problems this season so that next year we would only lose maybe only 10-2 and the year after 5-2 then the year after maybe we are picking up points......problem was we didnt have a squad present to educate. The Club had hired in a top coach and was paying for the analysis stuff. Waste of time and money.
And so it goes back to my point about not being able to find the players needed. Believe me we tried. We gave this our best shot. Sensible thing to do was to close it and develop young players.
To try and fail is surely better than not trying at all.
Massive embarrassment for me personally but hopefully what we achieve with our youth teams in the future will allow us to repair any damage done.

It's prob difficult with any new sport. Must admit if I was younger I'd have liked to have played for the American Football team. Whether I'd have been keen enough to travel to the other end of the country every other week is a different matter when the other option was rugby league 10 miles away.

Jalson, I admire the ambition but Carlisle and the north in general is probably not fertile ground for imported sports. I've just had a quick look to see if Carlisle had other clubs for imported sports like handball or korfball but it doesn't.
I don't think it is embarrassing for you. As you said, you tried something difficult and it didn't take off. No shame in that. But if kids grow up playing the sport then maybe they will have a different attitude.

All true words....but carwash Carlisle will forever remain the same with that attitude.
The first team was supposed to be the top of the player pathway for our academy players but we did not count on it being difficult to find 20 lads committed to the sport with decent technical ability on the ball in a population of 100,000 or more!
Comparing our academy programme to the first team is chalk and cheese. U10s north west champions and u14 and u16 finalists in our first season. The kids want to learn and embrace it. Thats where the time and money has to go to secure a future for the sport. Even if it is imported!

You seem to have a funny attitude yourself tbh, you have made 3 or 4 posts and all are on the cusp of slagging the lads you had in the first team.
Did these lads not play last season ?
Did they turn up for training sessions ?
Did you consider them mates ?
Do they have families ?
Do they have full time jobs ?
Ask yourself what changed between the two seasons and you may find an anser moving forward.
@Carwash, imported sport lol, it is as close to 5 a side football as you are likely to get, it isn't like being asked to play lacrosse or baseball as you randomly walk down botchergate is it.

I know of a couple of players who would have been more then good enough to play who didn't want to thanks to the clique nature that was there. Maybe you should be accepting more responsibility than you currently are.
I've no doubt about your enthusiasm for the club and the sport but blaming everybody but yourself and the coaching setup there doesn't help. Some of your comments are out of order in my opinion.
I hope your youth setup progresses as it does look promising , good luck for that mate.
My attitude is driven by a complete feeling of being let down. You would understand if you had put the work in I have for 3 years.
A core of 6/7 did play last year yes. They are the ones who were dedicated to the sport.
We had 4 16 year olds and one first team player at the last training session
Yeah they are all mates and top lads - this doesn't change that. Are you suggesting we should continue because they are friends?? If thats the aim of the club we would have entered soccer sixes.
Majority dont have families. We were asking them to turn up to train 2 nights a week and take 7 sundays out of their annual calendar to travel to away games. Not a big ask is it?
Some had jobs some students.
What changed was a number of things that meant the time and effort going into running a first team that didnt care about improving was no longer the sensible thing to do.

What do you think we should have done Waterworks that we didnt do? I did everything I could to give it the best chance. Lads wanted for nothing. Best coach in place. Free training. Free travel. Happy to admit I failed after giving it my best shot. So no shirking of responsibility there.
Not sure who your mates are but there was definitely no clique nature in that squad. It was a new team with a new coach. 6 or so from last year remained but were an open group. Sounds like they were maybe overlooked and bitter? Who are they?

I don't think you failed as such. I'm not going to name names on a public forum, some of them were asked to be involved last season, when I see you in person I've no problem with telling you who those players were. Two in particular were definitely more than good enough.
I still think it was a drastic decision but it's a decision that has now been made.
No training was 8.30pm until 10pm same time as the majority of you guys probably go for a game of soccer sixes.
And thanks waterworks not sure why they would think there was a clique but if that's the perception that was out there then it further validates the reason why we should shut it down. Was never going to succeed!

Decent standard may have been an exaggeration on my part Al but my point was meant to be that the players didnt seem to take it as seriously as yourselves at the club, hence why they couldn't be bothered.

I used to play volleyball to a decent standard and we reached national league. We kept it going for a number of years but in the end there just wasn't the finances in place to support travelling to the likes of Hull, Birmingham and Loughborough to play volleyball. Players moved on, gave up or just lost the will to do it.
I feel sorry for Jason as it sounds like the club were putting a lot of time money and effort into making it a success. But in the other hand it may have been a little unrealistic to expect players to be happy travelling for many hours to get hammered in the understanding it was "part of their development" and with the aim of winning games in 2/3 years time.
Also agree about the Carlisle apathy. If it's tough and involves commitment and sacrifice then most won't do it.

Sorry deckchair it's not. You've got wrong end of the stick.
Futsal and Football are separate sports. Own rules, different equipment, own world and European competitions. Only similarity is you kick a ball. Techniques to kick that ball are different though. But like squash and tennis, better comparison.
We would enter soccer sixes if we wanted to just play as mates with the footballers we had signed on that's what I meant. The reason we folded is because we couldn't find Futsal players or turn the footballers into Futsal players.

Now I have watched this video clip for 3 minutes and seen a game of football, no special kicking ability required, they pass the ball like footballers, shoot like footballers, dribble like 5 a side footballers, so in essence they are [censored] footballers then ?

They don't dribble the same nor do they receive the ball the same, nor move the same.
If it was the same there wouldn't be a whole separate UEFA coaching qualification for it. The similarity ends in that you're kicking a ball about. Feel free to come along to one of our coaching sessions and I'll explain in person all the differences. Even show you. Far too much to go into on here.
