Ryanes was outstanding yesterday down at stevenage like he as been most of the season so far. The lad looks and plays like a captain, i know curle made him captain against newport but maybe next season he can be given the armband full time. Hes a real leader.

You could at least spell his name right if you rate him that much.

This is not meant to be negative at all but many on here clearly rate Raynes and Miller and obviously Gillespie is class. In fact beyond Grainger I can't think of a defender we have who isn't well liked. So that all begs the question: Why is our defensive record this season so poor? Is it bad luck? Is it the system? Or is it really all Grainger's fault?

I think it's about getting used to a system based purely on attack. The defenders are, in the main, good players. However some are used to playing as full backs, and so naturally get dragged wide. This happens more because the wide players are told to stay forward.

I think they seem to be starting to get to grips with it now, our wide players are defending properly higher up the pitch, allowing Raynes to keep the three together. Curle has created a good base, the players are learning on the job and we are improving rapidly.

It's a open system that players are getting used to, slowly but surely. Since the start of September we've conceded 9 goals in 8 games, and that includes playing at Liverpool, compared to conceding 14 in 7 games in August. As for Raynes as captain, no need to fix something that isn't broken. And from watching the last 2 games, he doesn't need the captaincy to lead the team, he's already doing it. Gave Gillesphy and Joyce a rollicking yesterday.

He has won me over after a few mistakes early in the season, looks a solid CB now which we have needed for awhile long may it continue.

We conceded the goals we did because of the system which unless understood and played properly is a difficult system to play, I've no doubt we will concede a fair number of 2s and 3s in games but we know we can out score teams. We also made a good few mistakes early on but they are getting less as the season goes on.

Just read this on the Stevenage forum.

I thought their number 5 was one of the best cb's I have seen in League Two. Wasn't the captain but a natural leader.
