Moorlad Offline Bench Warmer Posts: 1096 Likes received: 683	Based on the Saxon novels by Bernard Cornwell starts tonight on BBC2 at 9pm. The books are a cracking read, and the author also wrote the Sharpe series (the TV series of those starred Sean Bean), I really hope they transfer to the screen well.

Just looking it up the latest book is out in the series so will have to get on that. Has anyone tried 'Vikings', the tv series? Cant work out wether its brilliant or im just watching it because its one of a few series set in that time in that time that they have put a lot of effort into.

Warriors of the Storm is the new one, I've just got it, hope it is as good as the other 8 in the series. I did reread the other 8 one after the other a couple of months ago when I heard this new one was on it's way and to be fair they aren't as good read like that one after the other, they suffer a bit from the way the battle scenes are described (all a bit similar really - I suppose there are only so many ways to describe shield walls). This first series is in 8 parts and is based on the Last Kingdom and the Pale Horseman, so I assume there are to be another few series.

I've not actually seen the Vikings at all, am I missing out?

Moorlad Offline Bench Warmer Posts: 1096 Likes received: 683	Reading the Saxon books got me into Robert Low, he wrote the Oathsworn series and they were pretty decent. He followed them with the Kingdom series which are 3 novels based around William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and they're excellent, I'd recommend them to anybody (The Lion Wakes, The Lion At Bay and The Lion Rampant).

Is it part of a series? Love the Shardlake books, especially Soverign and Revelation. At one point they were talking of filming the series, with Kenneth Branagh but I think it fell through.
