TOPIC: Joyce Red Card Appeal Launched

I know the club have been reluctant to appeal in the past, hopefully they're optimistic. Even their gaffa said it shouldn't have been a red.

This is why football bugs me these days. If there was any shred of decency in it, all that needs to happen is for the opposition manager and club captain to agree and it should be recinded. Afterall, they have nothing to lose after we've played them. (You could argue they gain by us having the player available to play against 3 of their rivals in the upcoming fixtures).
But it'll go to some jobsworth panel who couldn't give a damn about us, who no doubt get a slap up lunch and expenses just for turning up. Bah humbug!

Well if we don't win this will there be any need to ever appeal again? The fairest, perfectly timed tackle you could ever wish to see, I wonder what would have happened if it was a premiershit team? Answers on a postcard please.

Christ he's tumbled down the league's. Thought he was in Boro's 1st team? I'd have him at BP.

Glad we have appealed but doubt we will win the ref will have got his story straight by now.

I'm not as convinced it's a clear cut "never a red card" as others are. Showed the highlights video to a few people at work to see what they thought and all of them went "ooof" when they saw the tackle and said it was a red as he was out of control.

If you pause it at impact it does look like he's probably off the floor and in with both feet. Be surprised if it gets rescinded.

Looked a poor challenge to me, not malicious but went steaming in, not really in control and though he did win the ball, he could have easily injured his opponent.
For those reasons alone, I'm oot.

Not sure he was off the floor and out of control. Strong challenge, yes, but in control and won the ball fairly.

In contrast to the above, I showed the replay to a couple of colleagues who said it was never a red. Just shows how differently we all see things. I presume this goes to a panel, rather than an individual? If so, the fact their opinions will likely differ too makes me think it won't get rescinded.

Isn't there a cost to an appeal? £500 in my head for some reason?

No point in appealing if the highlights reel was the only camera. Nothing on it to conclusively prove owt so the ref's decision will stand.

It looks a good challenge from the video but you can't tell if he's gone in 2 footed or not. People with the best view were the Carlisle bench but their opinion won't count.
Both the Ref and assistant had players blocking their view which means they were likely influenced by reactions. Hopefully there is another camera angle which is why they have appealed.

They said they have studied the refs report before appealing. My thinking is that if, for example, the ref claims it was 2 footed and video evidence shows it wasn't - surely that gets thrown out.
At the time I was thinking great tackle. However as there was a bit of a fracas, I thought he would give him a yellow to appease the fans. Nobody would have been to fussed about that, within 10 seconds it would have been forgotten.

Anybody who has actually played the game knows that was a great well timed tackle , problem is depends who is on the panel.
On the negative side football used to be a mans game , it's increasingly becoming a non contact sport, you may has well ban the sliding tackle.

If you watch the highlights you can see when Joyce makes the challenge and the ball goes away, all of our coaching staff follow the ball away. Then when the ref blows it back for a free kick they complain a lot, so they obviously don't think it was even a free kick. All of their players protested very quickly about it, though.

It's the type of tackle any defender/stopper absolutely loves making. If you knock that out of the game, it's gone.

To me it actually looks like because their player bottles it a little bit, it looks worse than it is.

50/50 ball, their lad bottled it, home crowd and their players reacted, look where the linesman is, think of his view, he was the guy who got Joyce red carded. Good solid tackle but we won't win the appeal. Compare it with Arsenal's Coqelin who was airborne and clattered an Everton lad on Sunday - yellow card. Funny old game, looking forward to Wycombe up here already.

I'd be very surprised if it's overturned, not that I think it was a red card, but did the ref not say he was sent off for using excessive force? As mentioned above their bench obviously didn't see anything wrong with it as they followed the ball and looked a bit confused when the whistle went. I guess it boils down to what the ref said in his report - if he states excessive force then there's little chance of a successful appeal in my eyes, if he says it was two footed then we probably have a chance.

It was a fair, strong tackle. Trouble is, most players are so soft or cheats that they make the situation worse than it in. You can't tackle these days. It will be upheld.

Carlisle United can confirm that the appeal against the red card shown to midfielder Luke Joyce has been rejected by an FA Review Panel this afternoon.

The Cumbrians submitted video and written evidence to support the appeal but the panel decided that the first half dismissal handed out by referee Rob Lewis at Wycombe on Saturday was a correct decision.

Club secretary Sarah McKnight said: “We felt we had a very good case for the red card to be overturned, hence the decision to take it to appeal.

“Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case. We have asked if we can be given the reasons for the outcome, but we can confirm that the appeals process is now at its conclusion.”

Joyce will now serve a three match suspension, effective immediately.

No surprise. Referee the w@nker and their bench & players got him sent off. Bet that ref's never played football in his life.

If you look at the highlights the so called reccipient of the "horrendous tackle" doesnt roll about just checks his legs are still there until the wycombe players gang up on the alleged referee waving imaginary cards in his face and the tosser bought it. Hayes being the biggest offender. if the panel had seen that isnt that and offence to try and influence the officials

The appeal system almost seems pointless for lower leagues.

I would like to know who asesses the refs/officials at these games. I have asked the FA but their response is to quote "its confidential" ring a few bells or what

See Colloccini's red got recinded and Micah Richards got fined for an incident in the tunnel. I guess the panel had a busy day. Must have been exhausted by the time they got to league 2! Bless 'em

Curle said the ref said it was two footed which it clearly wasn't. So best guess the ref gets in has a chat then it becomes over aggressive and we lose the player for 3 games. No shock really little Carlisle from the north who gives a monkeys other than the loyal fans.
