TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n Must have been considered 'Serious Foul Play': https://t.co/05YadHMnsA - to me it was a strong, but fair challenge.

TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n ..understand why it wasn't rescinded. One of those that you can analyse all day as a panel and still not agree on.
12hreplyretweetfavorite
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n I've only seen it once admittedly. The incident itself is different to Joyce's though. Joyce wasn't a red for me, but can....

TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n Yes, without a doubt. Penalty and yellow card.
12hreplyretweetfavorite
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n Goalkeeper was always getting there first, imo. I presume the panel agree and that's why it was rescinded.
12hreplyretweetfavorite
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n No such rule as 'last man'. The rule is 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity'. Coloccini didn't do so.

He's a hard worker and all that but god knows how he gets in the team. He offers nothing and looks out of his depth on the pitch.

Every team needs a hard working player to do the dirty work, most of the time it will go unnoticed. cant just fill the team with flair players who catch the eye when going forward but when defending there nowhere to be seen

He's like a headless chicken most of the time tho. He's lucky to still be a professional footballer man. Last home game he was shocking, anyone can huff and puff about like he does.

Hate is a strong word. I just feel he's not good enough and there are better options. His attitude gets him selected but we've been trying to get rid for a couple of years now.

But I will have gave a reason, Robson was shit btw he couldn't beat a man and his crossing for a winger was garbage, he then had one, yes one good season as he shone out amongst the shit.

What do you make of players like Gareth Barry ?

Unseen work his specialty, I can't tell you how many City fans would slag him off on a weekly basis, it would even make Grainger cringe, soon missed him when he was sent off to Everton.

edit I am not saying Sweeney is a Barry clone btw ;)

I mean for genuinely crap players like Sweeney (not Gareth Barry).

Who mentioned Gareth Barry anyway? :S

Would Sweeney have headed the ball off the line in the last minute of our last game?

If you don't understand why Barry was mentioned then there is no hope of a conversation about it is there.

No, because he always gets subbed...

Mush - out of interest, how many away games do you get to? Against Leyton Orient he was as good as anyone on the pitch (my MoM) and I actually thought he was good at Wycombe too.

I probably wouldn't play him in the Yeovil home game, but I would have him in for the big homes games (Pompey, Oxford, Plymouth, etc.). I would also say he is a great pick for away games.

Appreciate what you're trying to say Alf, but I don't think he does anywhere near the job of the likes of Barry, Milner, Butt...

That is why he is a 3rd division footballer really though isn't it ;)

The Barry comparison was more for the "unseen work" part of your comment, a guy on another site I chat on once described Javi Garcia as a great defender of open spaces and this was meant as a compliment :cheer:

I think this is a harsh thread. Sweeney to me is a steady player, always gives 100%, never hides. Clearly he is not top drawer otherwise he wouldn't be farting about at Carlisle while still on the transfer list. He played well enough at Wycombe and was up and down the pitch like a teenager. I would be disappointed if he was dropped on Saturday, he deserves his place on current form.
Now if this thread was titled Joe Thompson I would have a different opinion.

I've only seen him at home so like you say he must be better away.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh then but I'm just going off what I've seen of him at home and yes he does try etc but maybe that masks his iinability a bit. We could all try our best and run about a bit. Yeah Thompson is worse than him I agree.

To be fair to Sweeney he is often being asked to play out of position, filling gaps where we don't have many options.

might not be the best player we have but he's a good attitude and works hard when selected. They're 2 attributes needed at league 2 level, we cant afford to go into games carrying players with bad attitudes

I think that's exactly right Labla. Sweeney sounds like a model pro who keeps his head down and gives his all. Technically limited but does a job when called upon.

It would be interesting to compare his stats re goals and assists to Bastian Hery.

The main problem for Sweeney is that he doesn't seem to have a main position. He is unlikely to get into centre midfield unless we play 4 in the box shape. For me he is better going forward and getting into the box late and winning headers or fighting for scraps. That said he I'd disciplined enough to fill holes at fullback or out wide.

Worth keeping as he doesn't seem to have a nightmare or hide away as others do from time to time.
