TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n ..understand why it wasn't rescinded. One of those that you can analyse all day as a panel and still not agree on.
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n I've only seen it once admittedly. The incident itself is different to Joyce's though. Joyce wasn't a red for me, but can....
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n Yes, without a doubt. Penalty and yellow card.
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n Goalkeeper was always getting there first, imo. I presume the panel agree and that's why it was rescinded.
TheCumbrians @J4ck_C0u51n No such rule as 'last man'. The rule is 'denying a clear goalscoring opportunity'. Coloccini didn't do so.

Was Appointing Kavanagh The Turning Point? 27 Oct 2025 02:16 #1

Clearly out of his depth even before we were relegated from League One.

Nobody really questioned what was happening before Kavanagh, Wembley visits and beating big teams, and then the squandering of countless cash and all - the amount of people/consortiums making silent bids we will never know.

Opinion will be divided but Kearns, CMW, Marrow, Dicker, Sweeney, Paynter - even if we still had them all people would be divided on a couple of them as in reality though there a good few donkeys in there and nearly put us out of the league.

The Board then had to appoint an 'outsider' and the shite hit the fan for them very quickly.

I like the way that the current board have shown their true colours and eroded any shred of credibility they had left, we know where we stand now and the creatures that we are dealing with.

I know a lot of people don't like Keith Curle but hey, the bloke has put a smile on my face when I watch Carlisle United now and finally Belief we can get something out of a game - a win/draw at Plymouth is not beyond us!

Definitely it was a major turning point. But rot had set in before his appointment.

Ironically, I was really excited about Kavanagh. Silly me.

Rot started for me the minute Fred sold the club, and the board thought they could sell players for £750,000, £500,000 and replace them with free transfers

To be fair Moorlad, Fattim has questioned everything to do with the running of the Club, since God was a boy.

Any valid points he ever made were lost around the same time as his credibility.

Kavanagh was a dreadful manager but he inherited a very poor squad. For me the rot set in with the custodians' decision to persist with Abbott when things were clearly going downhill and virtually all the fans could see this. They should have listened to the paying punters!!

Abbott's recruitment decisions in summer 2012 should've seen him get his cards - when Zoko and Taiwo left Abbott brought in Edwards and Cadamarteri. We were lucky to stay up that season.

The following season Abbott decided not to bother having a recognised right back and to replace Rory Loy with Lewis Guy! While all the time spunking serious budget on the injury and suspension prone Miller...

The rot started when that clown Abbott had got his own players in after his earlier success with McDonald/Wards players.

..and whenever he was asked why he'd lost a match, he'd go bright red and do a Ronnie Pickering impersonation, which said to most people that he didn't know...

The point where things really started to go wrong was in the summer of 2012. Prior to that, we'd had 3 years or so of steady progress - not flying up the league like we did from 2004 to 2007/08, but slowly building something. If Miller hadn't got that injury against Scunthorpe, we'd probably have made the play-offs in the 11/12 season.

What we should have done that summer was build on what we had, kept most of the squad and add a couple more players to kick us on. What happened is we lost three players who were regulars in that squad (Lubo, Taiwo and Zoko) and didn't properly replace them. The budget was cut, no doubt about it. As a result, Abbott had to take a few punts - Bugno to left-back moving Chantler to centre mid to replace Taiwo, Cademarteri (as good as he looked early on two-year deal was a big mistake with hindsight). They didn't work, and the quality of loan signings (bar Garner) weren't as good as what we'd had before. Then there was Miller's injury in the first game - you can't predict something like that.

Since then it's been nothing but downhill. People will talk about us "squandering cup money", but the majority of that will have gone on keeping up the wage bill - we didn't really get big enough crowds or commercial revenue to justify the quality of squad we had. Things could have been rectified (probably with an experienced appointment either instead of Kavanagh or as assistant to support him) to avoid relegation. We're pretty steady now though - this division is a poor one and a few canny signings can turn you around easily enough.

Edit - [censored] hell, forgot all about Mike Edwards as Lubo's replacement!

What a load of shit, Wards signings were absolutely terrible, Ward did well on player that were signed by Mcdonald and Abbott. Ward was not a good manager just luckly walked into a team what had a winning system already programmed in.

:( Lets be honest we've had some dross in charge recently who made some garbage signings to spunk a decent budget Offiong Edwards And Cadamatri to name but three, His Curle a exeption to the rule, Only time will tell. Maybe if we could get rid of the 3 liers at the top things would be different.......

I meant as in the majority were happy clappers who didn't care about the few moaners, the disgust is now felt by the majority and it has some momentum.

Aye Keogh Horwood Dobie Bridges all shite ;)

To be far he made some poor signings but I bet if he had been given the Westwood money to spend he wouldnt have even looked at some of them. For me a lot of the rot started the day Fred sold up.

Forking out mega compensation for John Ward. Handing John Ward a 4 (FOUR) year contract. Walking away and handing the club over to 4 clueless moron's. P1ssing away money from Wembley finals and player sales (Westwood, Garner, Madine etc etc). Been one balls up after another.

Thanks Fred.

So many mistakes been made at the top since Fred left. If Carlisle was an ordinary company like Morrison's, Tesco, etc it would have gone down the drain long since.

The rot set in well before Kav was appointed. Kavanagh's record shows that he wasn't a good manager but to be fair he was left a squad of utter dross that was hopelessly ill-equipped for League 1 by Abbott. The fact that his own signing's failed to cut the mustard means the board were right to fire him though.

Let's face it the rot set in the minute Fred dropped us in it by selling us to the current clowns.
