TOPIC: Board Games for Christmas

i seen an advert for an outrageous board game on TV tonight!

i see your point Happyblue........but the title of the game needs to change. When my son (age 6) and 1 of his friends get together they get their silly heads. time and time again we have told them off when they use the term "PooPoo head" or (as said title) "Poopyhead" saying the words used are rude and will upset people. As a parent i would feel undermined and embarrassed by name of this game and have no intention of getting it.

As technology improves children and teenagers get thicker. Do any kids play chess now?

I taught ours to play chess when they were only small, they loved it, and still do. You could buy Marvel superheroes chess sets, and Star Wars ones, which probably helped at the time.

They also really enjoyed playing Risk, although there were regular tantrums when the dice didn't go their way.

Taught my kids chess, mah jong and bridge. Daughters love them, my son lies on the couch

I was at the chess club at primary school (I know, geek) and used to love playing. Tried to teach my eldest, even buying The Simpsons chess set as an extra incentive but to no avail; perhaps I should have done it via Facebook then she would have paid attention

Kids should definitely learn how to play cards though - my parents taught me newmarket, whist, rummy etc. Even used to play for 2p a game - still recall the excitement at coming away from a game with a handful of coppers!

I don't think thick is quite right, nor do I think it is what he really means. They have different interests these days and there are many different things which take up their time. When our older two were nippers (the oldest is 28) there was far less pressure on them from social media etc, and they had time for us to do stuff with them, the younger ones (youngest is 17) have been different. The younger couple are less inclined to play sport, read, play board games or even go anywhere with us because of their games and social media. They are no less clever than the older ones, they just like doing different things. I found it frustrating at times particularly when we went on holiday and some of them would rather stay in and play on their gameboys (or whatever) than go and see Stonehenge, I got used to it though and am fairly philosophical about it really.

I never learned to play chess. If id known it was gonna be the deciding factor of how thick i was going to be i still dont think id have bothered. Bloody stupid game if you ask me

Now The Game of Life was fun,mainly because it actually had an endpoint built into the game

I enjoyed the Game of Life...there was another one, Go For Broke which I loved too. That had a roulette wheel, horse racing, spins...the aim was to lose your money as quickly as possible. Come to think about it...that's probably why I like the occasional flutter, and why I'm so bad at it!

Nearly caused a riot, not for the first time, by winning a game of risk on the first turn. Occupy 18 or something countries it was.

Played a lot of chess when I was younger. Lost interest as I got older.

I enjoyed strategy games monopoly is a big favourite. Poopyhead no!

I'll be too bothered getting leathered on Rum to be bothered with board games.

Screwball Scramble, now that's a decent game.

Also, it's a pretty accurate summary of our current tactics of playing it out from the back.
