I don't generally do the ratings out of ten stuff for individuals, and I won't start with this game. But just some general comments on the game overall.
I thought our initial set up was entirely suited to playing against a team struggling to win, however they were right into us early on and pressed hard, in fact they did really well, and deserved to go in front. The goals were both pretty sloppy, although the second was a really good run from their scorer and an excellent pass. It was still another 10 minutes before we woke up, even after that, and although I thought the formation was the right one it wasn't working particularly well. Curle spotted what was wrong and made the change, so congratulations to him for that (Hery did really well in the build up to the corner from which we scored our first by the way). As soon as we scored their pressing became very ragged, and I remarked to Griff that they looked tired, and we'd go on to win, and from then on we slaughtered them really.
There were good and bad performances, at the back Atkinson was excellent, and Gillesphey had a pretty good day (a small error followed by a fabulous tackle probably gave him confidence). Raynes and Ellis struggled at first, I guess with not having played together, and Raynes seemed to have a footwear issue, both improved second half, and I can see Ellis being a decent acquisition once he settles in. Raynes took his goals nicely and redeemed himself well. Gillespie is an odd one, for a big lad he worries me, as soon as the first goal was scored, I said it was a keeper's ball, but he gets blocked far too easily all the time, still his saves during the game were pretty good.
In midfield we were obviously by far the better team, Grainger had a very good game and was a real handful, Dicker was the best passer of the ball on the pitch by miles, but still has a few problems with his composure at times (his tackle was worse than what Joyce got sent off for). Kennedy was absolutely tireless, he won the ball, played it smart, supported the forwards and for me was the man of the match by a mile.
Gilliead had another very good day, absolutely tortured them, and they were doubling on him. He's obviously still learning, and there were a couple of occasions where he missed Hope getting into real god positions, but I can forgive him that because he's a very exciting prospect. Wyke was blowing a bit hot and cold, perhaps not fully up to speed, sometimes he was great, sometimes much less so, but there's plenty still to come, and Hope (I thought he might be taken off, and I could have commented that we were hopeless, but sadly not to be) was infuriating first half, because you can see what he has, but he just wasn't delivering. However after the break he was a different lad, full of energy and all over them, if he'd been that way all game he'd have been the man of the match.
Overall a great game to watch, loads of mistake, loads of action and plenty of goals, plus we came out on the right side of it. It was well worth the money I paid.
Pretty much exactly how I saw the game Moorlad, as soon as we got the first I felt there was only one winner. Kennedy easily MoM and spot on with your thoughts on Gillespie. Only thing I disagree with is about Dicker. I do like him and feel we're a much more composed side with him in it but I thought his passing was a bit ragged on Saturday, seemed to be a lot of aimless forward balls by him such as the one which led to Yeovil's second goal. As you said though, a really enjoyable game of football.
