Seems he was happy to be pictured in the N&S; helping deliver a petition against the proposed Police Cuts, but when it came to the vote he abstained...

He's a f*cking coward. Normally he will do nowt but toe the party line, only reason he abstained was because of the local media attention that the petition got. If it wasn't for that he would've done exactly what the whip told him. He was just terrified of the bad publicity but also terrified of defying the party.

To be fair they all do it. Billy Hague voted in favour of health care reforms then campaigned against hospital cuts locally and then claimed expenses for doing so!

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/william-ha...s-organising-4092609

Likewise my old MP David Lammy frequently campaigns against the proliferation of betting shops on high streets yet he voted in favour of deregulating the gambling industry when Labour were in power.

I'm not fan of Stevenson's politics but on this occasion I'm not sure what else he could have done. Deifying a 3 line whip in abstaining is fairly serious and won't have won him any favour with the party hierarchy.

Except MP's are elected to represent their constituents first and foremost.

You get what you vote for and it makes me smile to see those who voted the Conservatives in bleating about the unpleasant consequences.

Met him in parliament as part of a RMT delegation, listened to what we had to say then said " why should i help you, you lot will never vote for me" the man is a disgrace how he was re-elected still carrys a feeling of being from a city whose people could be some of the most stupid in the country

The fact he was re-elected shows what a poor candidate the Labour Party put forward. I wonder who told her what to say in her quote to the Daily Mirror.

Does anyone know how the motion they were asked to vote on was actually worded?

I agree they should be elected to represent their constituents but in reality most MP's represent their party's policy in parliament while campaigning locally on the issues their constituents case about.

As you point out huge sections of the public are equally hypocritical, voting Tory cos they want low taxes then moan when spending is cut.

Who in their right mind would vote for a motion proposed by a left wing, Union loving, Everton supporter who claimed for a bathrobe on his expenses !!

Nowt like a bit of prejudice eh?

I would hope any MP in their right mind would read the proposal and vote for it on merit regardless of who proposed it.....

You taking the P ?
Both the Labour and Tory Parties are in favour of continued British military action in the Middle East. A soldier (all be it American) was asked on reddit to describe what he was doing in Iraq. So when you are out delivering circulars and birthday cards your taxes go to fund that because there are British soldiers there as well. A good use of your money when Cumbria Fire Services are being cut? And who is taking the piss?

Our MP doesn't even live in his own constituency!

Lives in Great Corby, shame it's part of Penrith & The Borders...
