My arse was gan watching that just in case I popped up at some point!

So their conclusion is that as some people drink a lot on Saturday night, (the whole of) Carlisle is a hard drinking city?

I think it's fair to say that Carlisle (and probably most northern towns ) are perceived as "hard drinking".

I personally think it's miles better now that there isn't the bedlam of 11am or 2am chucking out times with chip shop brawls and massive taxi queues.

Go to any town/city in England and you'll see the same or worse (more much worse).
Non-'it's grim up north-story, by a lazy journo, on a show who's below average front; clearly shagged her way up.

I very rarely stay out into the early hours these days, im a few beers before and after the match then home for MOTD kind of guy, so can someone tell me where in Carlisle stays open all night to accomodate these 24 hour drinkers? I always found places kick out at around 2/3am anyway so dont really see what the problem is?

Also all the pished up people they asked on Botch were scottish so maybe its not carlisles fault anyway!

Latest open is now 4am Walkabout, Outrageous and Club Rock until 4am.
Earliest open is Lloyds and Woodrows at 8am with lloyds serving the longest hours 8am until 1am during the week and 8until 2am on Friday and Saturday. Actual licence is 7am until 3am but we don't use it as found it was detrimental to both ourselves and Botchergate in terms of reputation perceived by others.
There was a point around 3/4 years ago where the closing time of clubs and opening of pubs was literally an hour so a 23hour drinking culture.
I think there is still 2 venues with 24hour licenses in Carlisle although none use them currently.
I would say Carlisle has been picked on as all the above is quite unique in England and compared with the laws in Scotland very very different which is why so many Scottish come down for the weekend.

Are any Wetherspoons or Lloyds open 24 hours in England?

Noticing pubs moving more and more towards gastro type layouts, was in Hamilton Hall Wetherspoons yesterday in London and that's changed a fair bit since I last went in about 5 year back.

Airport sites open until the last flight out and open again for first flight think they shut for roughly 2 hours.
For radio 1 Big weekend we opened at 7am until 5am on the Saturday and opened again at 7am Sunday that was a pretty mental weekend like both days had music turned up and the dance floors going at 9am.

Seen a few 24 hours bars around Germany, can remember going in a bar in Glasgow at like 730am when England played them in 99 and finding it really strange, take it that has changed now with way they are talking on there.

If it's such a big drinking spot, how come so many new bars open then close down within a few months?

I'd love it to go back to 12-1AM closing so I can get finished at a decent time instead 4AM.

A lot is cost of taxis etc. more and more people live out of town these days and taxi can cost upwards of £12 to get to outskirts. So lot of people get last bus during week
