TOPIC: Train advice.

Someone will know this
Are there no west coast trains that stop at Watford anymore ?
Is the only way to go all the way into Euston and back out again ?

What's the best way to get off at Watford if this is the case ? Change at Milton Keynes, get a train to Birmingham and change

What a farce, what was wrong with an extra 2 minute stop to allow people to enjoy the pleasures of the harlequin centre ?

Not many, if any, stop at MK from Carlisle now like.

EDIT: Had a look and a few do actually, seems to take 3 hr 50 mins mind!

There's basically 2 services to London from Carlisle now...

1: Standard WCML, that doesn't usually stop after Warrington

2: Carlisle to London via Birmingham, which is two services combined into one train - Scotland to Birmingham and Birmingham to London. These are the ones that stop at Milton Keynes usually.

Watford was taken off many Virgin services as folk were using Travelcards to get into London far quicker than using the Overground services they were meant to - Once swiped in at Watford, they could go any platform (This may have changed now, not used Watford for a while!). Guard doesn't have time to get down between Watford and Euston so these trains resembled rush hour ones with folk hopping on. The later evening trains don't have this problem, hence why some still stop at Watford...

Quickest way now is the WCML train to Euston, then back out to Watford. Roughly 4hrs...

Quick tip, don't get off at MK then go Birm! You'd be going back up country!!!

If you're not in a rush, the via Birmingham often have a few cheap tickets available!

He didn't mean change at MK to then go on to Birmingham.

Can see why some people would just sit on the 4 hour one to MK then change and go Watford that way, all depends how much time you have I guess etc...

On a Saturday I think only 2 trains that stop at Motherwell call at Carlisle, gets in at 1443 going north and stops at 1654 going south from Glasgow - 30 mins other way both of them it would be perfect for going to watch Motherwell if anyone ever fancied to! Wonder why only those certain trains stop there.

Think you can get the Birmingham and change at Crewe onto a Liverpool-Euston.

Watford has always been set down only.

During the week every third or so Carlisle-Euston train stops at Miilton Keynes Central.

Get off there and jump on the London Midland service that stops at Watford Junction and takes around 20 mins.
