TOPIC: I have to get to Grasmere tomorrow

I'm thinking of Hardnott pass, but would I be better just going the long way (A66, M6 to Kendal) and not taking the chance?

Instead take upon yourself these few lines of lyrical verse composed about Grasmere and simply envisage yourself there.

Would take the long way Moorlad - looking at some of the landslides etc happening, better safe than sorry.

The only way to Grassmere is through Kendal Windermere and Ambleside as a couple of our drivers at work have found out this week and the traffic doesnt help either

Divn't go moorlad. Let them take their chances with the tax authorities instead. Then they'll pay more tax, so more available to the Government for building expensive vanity projects in London; Crossrail, HS2 etc. You know it makes sense.

I have just came from Ambleside to Carlisle went over Kirkstone pass past Ullswater then diverted to Troutbeck on A66 roads were ok

I just rang the place I'm going to and said I might go Hardnott way. I was told not to be so fucking stupid. Fair comment I suppose.

I went the long way round in the end. I had to stop off in Keswick and also dropped some stuff at our office in Kendal. I can't credit what I saw, Keswick is an absolute mess, Kendal too, but the extent of the thing is what has really stunned me. There are still cars abandoned on the sides of the A591, all the way from Kendal to Grasmere, there have been floodings in every town and village from Kendal to Keswick along that route, and this is just what I've seen.

This has been far more devastating, in a single incident, than either 2009 or 2005, I don't think any sensible amount of flood defences would have made much of a difference. When the government go on about this being unprecedented I believe them this time, certainly I've never seen anything that comes remotely close to it over such a huge area.
