Pretty common in "smart buildings"
It's usually more around space optimisation and energy consumption. Typically a building is only utilised to 50% of its capacity yet they still have the power onto the desks, printers on, vending machines, heating, lighting etc. With occupancy sensors and hot desks, you can fill the building up in the morning bottoms up floor by floor so you only heat, cool, light the floors in use rather than the whole building if they have their own desks and occupy the building in an un managed way. Also saves on the cat f running lifts etc to high floors when say only a few people may be up there.
