I was right down the front of the WRE, about 5 meters from the celebrating Everton players.
I did hear "f*** off you scouse c***" from a lad to my right, maybe 3-4 meters away,
This prompted Pienaar & Barkley to look over, the rest is history.

However, someone on Twitter said they heard much worse from a lad in a blue cap, who was up near the back.
I certainly heard nothing else but that.

As a member of the "never hear anything brigade" as you put it, I can honestly say I have never heard racist abuse at BP since I started watching them 10 years ago. Am I saying that there are/have been no racist fans at BP, no. Am I saying that these fans have never chanted or said racist things at a player, no. Am I denying that something happened yesterday, no. Unfortunately I dont even find it hard to believe that it did happen.
What I feel is really damaging the club is the use of the phrase in the media "racial chanting". When I hear the phrase "racist chants" I imagine a large group of people all singing racist songs and generally that can be heard in large parts of the ground like in Europe. By the looks of this thread, this is not what happened yesterday. I suspect the reason so many people said they never heard anything yesterday was to highlight the remote nature of what happened. It was a small number of people in the Warwick, (that is not condoning what happened). Even the example you give was one person, you wouldnt say that was racist chanting. Oh and by the way as I am in the old main stand I didnt hear him either or is that just because I chose not to hear one man on the opposite side of the ground?

Stereotyping cities or areas of the country due to what they are known for has gone on for years, most will take it as what it is, banter. However there's always a few precious ones amongst us who will take offence, these are normally the ones who are offended by anything and everything, pathetic really. Do you think folk from the West Country are offended at being called cider drinkers or wurzels? Or folk from Sunderland getting called Mackems? Or southerners getting called shandy drinkers? I certainly wasn't offended when opposition fans used to sing sheep shaggers at us. It's light hearted banter ffs!

Stinky's correct when saying a lot of scousers (whoops, am I allowed to call them this?) would take great pride in thieving from firstly the port then later on from all over Europe when they would travel away with football. Obviously nobody's saying every single Liverpudlian is a thief, but whether you like it or not it's a reputation which scousers have earned over the years. To call it racist is a pathetic overreaction to be honest.

Find it quite hilarious that you're accusing folk on here of being hypocrites yet on the one hand you're whinging about people generalising others and stereotyping and on the other you're implying all Daily Mail readers are racist!!! Work that one out

Firstly on the Daily Mail point it was proven in the British Crime Survey some years ago that people's perception of how crime affects them was skewed by whether they read the broadsheets or the tabloids. Broadsheet readers were generally well informed on crime levels and the sorts of crime that is happening and in which areas. Tabloid readers were generally poorly informed by sensational headlines, and had no real idea that (at the time) crime levels were falling especially in urban areas. The Daily Mail was cited as being a prime example, choosing to sell newspapers by leading with items demonising asylum seekers, over-sensationalising crime rates and causing health scares. I'm not saying that Daily Mail readers are racist. I'm saying that they have a tendency to be poorly informed on key subjects.

Oh, and last time I looked, drinking shandy or cider or being a Mackem isn't a criminal offence. And if you're ok with being called a sheep-shagger then good on you. However, thieving is an offence, and is especially unacceptable when applied to the whole population of a city.

You're other irrelevant point about thieving being an offence whilst the others aren't is totally missing the point. In terms of stereotyping people why does it matter if the stereotype is an offence or not? You've totally missed the point here, it's gone right over your head!

To be fair to the Anti-racism bloke, he didn't really jump on the ban wagon. He kinda concurred with most on here who believe it to be one or two assholes who either have nee brains or can't tek their ale or a combo of both. More accurately, today in Carlisle a black professional footballer of unknown wealth,was alledgedly racially abused. His alledged abuser has not yet been identified, it is therefore unknown whether the alledged abuser is himself'/herself, black, white, brown, yellow, green, red, purple, pink, young or old, thick as pig shite or a genius. Should this person be identified and convicted in a court of law, they will have only themselves to blame if their possibly already limited life chances are damaged/reduced.

As an educated Daily Mail reader, i get irked with the broadsides of tosh fired by what seem to be usually left wing half wits.
To brand readers of a paper as racist is absurd unless its the Nazi News of course. The slur automatically assumes that readers have no brains or the ability to reach their own opinions. Has it ever occurred to them that only certain articles and parts of the paper might only be enjoyed. It doesn't mean that the papers agenda is agreed with. In the same way steak and chips comes with peas and onion rings. Enjoy the best bits and leave the peas.

Fair point cyberslob. The BCS was statistically significant, but that doesn't mean that it was true about every reader of a tabloid, and specifically the Daily Mail. But it does allow me question, as a simple matter of fact, whether someone who expresses a racist or discriminatory view reads that newspaper.

Give over griff, A lot of scousers are very proud of their heritage, The Liverpool economy was built on thieving from the docks and robbing whilst on trips abroad.


All of it? Really? I think you're over-generalising. I'm sure that some did that; on such stuff are legends built. But you can't denigrate a whole population because of the actions of some. And if you hold those views, but are against racism at Brunton Park, you're a hypocrite.

I've never heard any racist "chanting" at BP apart from the late eighties when "Carlisle is white" was sung a couple of times, before Walwyn arrived. I heard a moronic song about the Bradford fire when we played Bradford City, think it was early Jan 2007 (we beat them 1-0 with a Hawley goal IIRC); that was from maybe 50 odd folk in the Warwick - audible from the Padddock at the halfway line. Heard maybe 10 racist remarks from individuals in 30 years.

I think Everton once chucked someone out for calling Saha a lazy French [censored] (or similar). All clubs have a tiny minority of idiots, the key is to report and react swiftly.

I think Everton once chucked someone out for calling Saha a lazy French [censored] (or similar). All clubs have a tiny minority of idiots, the key is to report and react swiftly.

First away match i went to at Doncaster Keith got carried off and the away end started singing Carlisle are white.

A group of about 10 lads sang this at Bradford away on a Tuesday night a few years back. The game where Lummy scored with his arse.

I seem to be different than most others on here, I've heard racism at games a good few times in recent seasons. Preston away 3-3, Stevenage away first game of the season a few years ago, Bradford away as mentioned above to name but a few.

Most examples are only one person shouting something, but not the point.

I love this thread, all Scousers are thiveing Toerags, always have been. Liverpool is the only place in the UK I stay where they have bars on the Hotel downstairs room windows !!

This reminded me of my trip to Anfield. We got food from a KFC near Goodison, first time I've seen steel wire ropes across the counter area to prevent folk lowping ower presumably? Hmmmmm?
