Police have arrested a male as part of an investigation regarding allegations of racist behaviour directed towards football players in Carlisle United's FA Cup fourth round tie with Everton.

A 15 year old male, from Carlisle, has been arrested on suspicion of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress by words contrary to Section 4a of the Public Order Act.

He has been bailed until 9th March 2016.

The alleged incident occurred following Everton's first goal in the match held at Brunton Park, Carlisle, on the 31st January 2016.

Police are working closely with Carlisle United as part of enquiries to identify any other suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from Durranhill Police Station or alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

If it is him, and it is proved, I hope he gets what he deserves. Absolute tool.

There was a couple of youths at the blackpool game who persisted in standing up in front of us to goad the Yeovil fans. When prompted to " fookin sit down yer fookin gobshite, some of us are here to watch the match" he complied without dispute, I spotted him later outside the ground with his pals,again goading some yeovil fans,most of whom were over forty five I would guess and who seemed like decent folk. The youth of today! JEEZ!

So a stupid 15 year old shouts an idiotic thing at a football match to show off and the world is up in arm's! I'm pleased there is nothing else in the world to worry about.

A couple of you old duffers on here want him hanged, get a grip you drama queens.

Cumbria Police presumably don't claim any copyright and don't as of yet care too much about numbers of visitors to their site for revenues.

Regardless of his age, the occasion or whatever, the alleged behaviour is simply not acceptable, he acted like an idiot and appropriate punishment should be given. hi cheadleblue. for what reason would you be against national service. at least it would get rid of some of the little scrotes of the streets and learning a bit of respect, it would teach them disicipline, self respect for themselves and others and hopefully teach them a trade. just my opinion. 12 years in the RAF from age 18 did me no harm whatsoever.

Cert for a three year ban, maybe more off a Magistrate. Probably be good to hear he had apologised in person if the Everton players would have it, then again he may really feel what he shouted was fair do's - then you have a real problem, can't see point in naming and shaming someone at that age.

Harsh if he gets a ban for life by the Club at that age if it's his first offence for out like this, it really wouldn't shock me those these days.

Won't be long till folk are getting done for having a go at footballers with sleeve tattoos or fancy hair styles non stop from the stands, best way to deal with them would be to get them to say it to their faces!

If it was up to me, he'd be banned for at least 5 years, named and shamed in the local press, apologise to Everton and Carlisle United and made to do community punishment. We can name and shame in the news and star when courts hand sentences to over 18's, why should it be different to under 18's?

Well, it appears we are letting them go feral. There is a huge hole for kids between 16 and 18 who aren't in school, they're just abandoned, no chance of work, no benefits, nothing, how are they going to react. Military training is of absolutely no use to most of them anyway. For a start it would take most of them months to reach a basic level of fitness to even cope with basic training.

Apprenticeships these days aren't the kind of apprenticeships which existed when we were younger, yet kids are expected to have a go at those and have nothing when they come out of it except a couple of years "experience" of getting to do sod all of any use and an NVQ. So that is probably what needs to be put right, stop the thinking that everyone has to be able to go to university and get a degree, it isn't necessary, it never was in the past, and loads of people aren't suited to it. If apprenticeships are the way forward for those people then the training has to be decent and there needs to be decent, proper outcomes, like there used to be.

Trouble is we've no industries for kids to go into these days, so very few decent technical apprenticeships actually exist, there may be schemes in catering and healthcare (which pay sod all), but finding much else is tough for them. We had more opportunities to find gainful employment 35 or 40 years ago. I genuinely feel sorry for youngsters these days, they're used to getting everything they want right up to the time they need to get a job, then they've got to get used to being hopeless cases.

Personally I think he needs educated, not banned - not for a substantial length of time anyway, just until he's understood and accepted that his behaviour has no place in football or society.

He deserves some kind of punishment, whatever that may be, education etc. Everyone does stupid stuff when they are young, but you know its wrong to shout racist abuse when youre 15. If you get away with nothing then your just going to come away thinking it was OK to do it.

Slightly off topic, i hear casual racism around the town more regularly than id like to. Obviously not as aggressive in nature as on Sunday, but it is about, especially aimed towards Muslims.

If - as many have suggested over the past few days - the offender was one of the thousands of non-regulars who turned up for the big cup game, then banning is utterly pointless. "You can't set foot inside Brunton Park for five years but unless we get another big cup tie you probably wouldn't want to anyway" Great punishment that!

A public apology would do me - take a bit of the negative press off us. Maybe send him round a few local primary schools doing a "don't be a tit like me" speech.

The other non white communities have the same prejudices about other cultures too. Multicultural our society is not.
It is only by meeting , socialising and enjoying the company of others can you accept differences and enjoy their qualities rather than condemn them.

The media love a good shit storm and we all like a good moan but the simple fact is, you can make good friends from any community that will last a lifetime if you are openminded. Unfortunately this little scrote is missing out on friends he will never know about. More fool him.
