Gillespie 6 - didn't have much to do really.

McQueen 7 - great engine and good defending.
Big Raynesy -5 not on long enough due to getting swarkoed.
Ellis 8 - solid as usual, proper CB.
Atkinson 6 - did alright.

Gilliead 7 - best display for a while, worked hard.
Comley 8 - great tackles and decent on the ball.
Kennedy 6 - steady as usual. Nice to see him get the armband when Raynes went off.
Hope - 7 looked dangerous with his pace, put the graft in.

Wyke 8 - great around display.
Jabo 6 - improvement from the York game.

Sub's

Gillesphey 7 - best I've seen him play.
Sweens 5 - ran about
Deggsy 5 same as Sweens.

Gillespie 6

McQueen 6
Raynes 6
Ellis 7
Atkinson 6

Comley 7
Kennedy 6
Hope 5
Gilliead 6

Ibhere 5
Wyke 8

Gillesphey 7
Asamoah 5
Sweeney 6

Poor game in truth. Was surprised at how bad a side Accrington were, Carlisle only just better but deserved the win. Really don't know why Curle's persisting with hoof ball from back to front when passing football got us up to 5th in the league and we were beginning to look comfortable with it. Referee was abysmal aswell, mostly in our favour tho!

Don't think the Accrington players did themselves any favours trying to influence the ref with their constant whinging, return game should be eventful.

I don't understand the ratings and rave reviews over Wyke.......despite his goal and assist I think his first touch and passing were poor today.

Wouldnt go with anyone apart from Ellis above 6 as just really a standard performance Thant got the 3 points against a very poor Accrington. One thing I will say though is hope, he doesn't offer you much hope, absolutely useless and just can't see what he offers to the team. I havnt seen him have a good game yet. very poor signing imo.

Hope covered ground and gave the defence a lot of cover, going forward he was hesitant and held on to the ball too long on a couple of occasions.

I think he's a decent option and can definitely run at men which is something we miss down the left when Grainger's not present.

Wasn't a rave performance but he wasn't useless.

Can't agree with many ratings today ...Gillespie...6 quiet day
Mcqueen ...5 far to lightweight
Hope...5 nothing special
Gilehead...5 another poor display
Kennedy 6 ..solid
Comely 5...so so wev got better
Ellis 8 always gives you the same game
Gillesphey 7 so so
Atkinson 6 ..so so
Wyke .. 6 still waiting for his best game
Asamoah ...6
Jabo 6...didn't look fit

After hearing Stanley had a pretty decent side was worried we'd have a tough game ...but in truth they weren't that great and it was a poor game ,defending the ball all over the pitch with little skill involved.
Happy to get the 3 points but unless there's a drastic improvement can't see play offs ..
Missing grainger and joyce a hell of a lot, hopefully we'll get some loans in ....but i hear you can only have them for 4 weeks ( ??)
If so fingers crossed we get some form back .

Think a lot of people are being too harsh here. Accrington aren't a bad side, that is shown from their league position.

We dominated from start to finish, pressed Accrington high up the pitch and forced them into making mistakes. It really could have been about 5-0 today. Jabo's chance before the first goal, MCQueen hitting the post and Hope's shot cleared off the line in the second half. Best performance from us in a good while.

Gillespie 6 - One good save in the first half
Atkinson 6 - Goes about his work efficiently
Raynes NA Gillesphey 6 - One of his better games yet wasn't really tested.
Ellis 8 - Really stepped up the plate after Raynes went off. Won every header.
McQueen 7 - Great to see him back. Strong in the tackle and gets up and down.
Gilliead 7 - Took his goal well.
Kennedy 6 - Solid work in midfield
Comley 8 - Really thought he was excellent. Loves a tackle and can pass.
Hope 6 - Poor first half. Second half he looked dangerous.
Ibehre 6 - Good hold up play and target man.
Wyke 7 - Much better from him. Strong and athletic.

Wouldn't say we missed Joyce in the slightest. Comley in his two games has tackled more, covered more ground, broke up play quicker.

I thought atkinson and ellis were both excellent. Not always in the spotlight but very good at what they do. I'd give both of them an 8 and Wyke a 7 with Kennedy. The rest 6.

i don't think Joyce is that slow, yeah Comley is quicker, has bags of energy and is definitely worth his place at the moment but I wouldn't have Joyce down as particularly slow or immobile compared to others.

Merely an opinion? Joyce is ok, an average L2 midfielder. Comley on early impressions appears to be a better version who could play at a higher level...

Time will tell. Joyce has done very little wrong this season but appears to be getting the backlash from the Bitter Dicker fan club.

mores the point as we still have Joyce he looks a capable replacement for Dicker making some of the twining about him leaving a bit irrelevant

I think some of the ratings are way too low...I don't know what people expect... We play one of the top teams..we restrict them to very few efforts, cause them lots of problems up front and pretty much stop them playing. That was a very good, professional performance against a very physical team. Unlike last week I thought KC got the tactics spot on... We closed them down really early, preventing the keeper from playing it short... His kicking was awful and we picked up possession every time. Clearly we did our homework this time. They have overwhelmed a lot of teams this year with their physical high tempo game... I thought we completely nullified their threat and we're always in control. I'm very happy with that.

Gillespie. 6 - not much to do
McQueen 6 - Good pace but a bit lightweight
Atkinson 7 - I thought he covered behind Ellis really well. Looked calm at the back.
Ellis 8 - won every header. Blood and guts display. Awful with the ball though.
Raynes 6 - looked decent before he went off
Comely 8.5 - MOM for me. Quick across the ground. Tough in the tackle. Good on the ball.
Kennedy 7 - battling display. Fought for every ball
Hope 6 - worked hard but doesn't offer much else. Picked some poor passing options.
Gillead 6.5 - took his goal well but needs to get involved more
Jabo 6 - Still doesn't look sharp but some good link up play
Wyke 8 - Looks to have lost weight and gained pace. Some excellent turns and link up play. Constant threat

Subs
Gillesphey 7 - Did a good job when he came on. Solid. Good header across goal for our first.
Sweeney and Asamoah not on long enough

Curle 9 - Picked a much more balanced team. Tactically we did a job on them today, pressing them high up the pitch and harassing the hell out of them.

Raynes went off; Hery, Joyce and Grainger all are out; no Miller; yet we still win. Good competition for places, good use of the loan system - decent. Took us until Good Friday to get to 42 points last season. Standards have been raised. Top 10 will do this season; promotion push next year please.

Gillespie - N/A. Didn't have enough to do. Easiest win in a long time

McQueen - 6 I really like him as a player, but some of his passes today were shocking. Doesn't seem overly confident when a high ball.comes his way, even when he's in challenged.

Raynes - N/A Was having a good game until he was K/O'd by their keeper. How that was a foul against us I'll never know.

Ellis - 8 MOTM Absolutely top drawer performance. I think he lost one header all game and apart from that clattering he gave their lad didn't put a foot wrong.

Atkinson - 7 Solid. A few dodgy balls forward, but was relatively untroubled by their attack.

Gillesphey - 6 Few early dodgy moments and numerous poor passes, but he grew into the game and looked 10 times a better player once he had a bit of confidence about him.

Comley - 8 Energetic, physical, fantastic at tackling and technically sound. Get him signed. The poster above who gave him a 5 must have a grudge, utter lunacy.

Kennedy - 8 Anytime the ball comes near him its a dead cert he's going to win the ball and pick a good pass out into a good area. Absolute class act at this level. Lucky to have him.

Gilliead - 6 Got his goal but didn't play particularly well. It's a shame he's dropped over the last month or so, it seems so obvious there's so much more for him to give, he's just not delivering. Still young though and I'd rather have him around the club than be elsewhere.

Hope 6 - Looks promising when he gets the ball but always seems to just fall short of doing what he means too. Covered a lot of ground defensively though.

Wyke - 7 Great first touch on him. Battled hard agaisntt their back 4 and never gave them a moments rest. Pace, strength and work rate all in his locker. Just needs to add consistency.

Jabo - 6 Looked off the pace today. Put the effort in, just lacked in quality. Still a hero though!

I understand Accrington were poor today but I think giving 6's is harsh on a lot of the team. We didn't let accy play at all. Pressed from the first minute. Made them hurry everytime they had the ball. Good performances from most, 7's across the board with wyke, ellis and comley getting 8's.

Absolutely spot on Northumbrian, not saying we would have won against Everton last week, but a performance like that would certainly have ruffled a few feathers, instead of the limp wristed display we got, COYB.

Agree with Northumbrian ratings, can't understand some other ratings.
We played the form team in the league and comfortably beat them. The only criticism I would make is set plays, we really miss Granger.

Le's hope no-one! While the Dicker could pull off a top drawer pass once every six weeks, he missed too many tackles and gave the ball back to the opposition too often (as James Phillips pointed out in midweek).

Comley looks a far better player and he has time on his side to get even better

Hope must be the fastest player we have on the books, the ability to change gear and get away from a league two clogger shouldn't be underestimated. Agree though that his final ball and finishing is weak at present

Gillespie 6. Quiet but tried his hardest to give a penalty away late on.
Mc queen 6 looked nervous but settled in and very good going forward
Atkinson 7. Steady
Ellis 8 at one point there was a crowd of 5 and he just steamed through them to head it away.
Gillesphey 7. Much better, seemed a lot more relaxed and confident in his passing
Gilliead 6 seemed up for it but just couldn't get the ball in the right areas to get at the full back
Kennedy 8 our most underrated player, doesn't seem to get the credit for his hard work. Battles for every ball and wins most of them
Comley 8 man of the match. Some great tackles and composed when it came to the passing side, a lot more energy than our past defensive midfielders
Hope 6 there's something there, was good to see him get tackled a few times but he just kept getting it and taking him on and get his rewards, took 30 mins but he eventually got the best if that full back before he went off
Jabo 6 put a shift in, chases every ball. Just needs a goal to get him going again
Wyke 8 endless running, just seems to nick the ball past his defender at the last min each time. Seems a different player from pre-season/early on.

Joyce is not a replacement for Dicker. They have totally different qualities. So who now is our Dicker?

Le's hope no-one! While the Dicker could pull off a top drawer pass once every six weeks, he missed too many tackles and gave the ball back to the opposition too often (as James Phillips pointed out in midweek).

Comley looks a far better player and he has time on his side to get even better
That is harsh on Dicker. He was/is a very good passer and he lost the ball a hell of a lot less than our other midfielders. His issue was a energy and pace. Having said that, if Comley can produce that display every week and we can sign him up for longer then I will be happy with that swap. Personally I think they are totally different type of players and there is room for both types in the squad. I would have preferred to keep Dicker and lose Thompson, Balanta and Hery... They have all been very poor so far and have failed to deliver.

No ratings but a few observations. Ellis was not too good when he arrived but has now settled in fantastically well, our defence is much stronger with him and Raynes at it's heart of a 442. The boy Mcqueen needs games, good going forward but needs to toughen up at the defensive part of his game, There is potential there. I don't rate Atkinson as a left back or a centre half, so it now seems we have too many right backs. we miss grainger, fact. Gillephey was poor/overawed against everton but much better yesterday. Hope was able to find acres of space yesterday yet we didn't use him to switch play often enough in my opinion, there is a good player in there. Comley has a decent future ahead of him but it's early days, let's see if there is consistency in his game but a promising start. Kennedy, strong and reliable. Gillead got his goal but where has that attacking streak gone? Jabo didn't look "with it" at all yesterday, needs a goal desperately. Wyke is is going well, needs to start for me every game at the moment if Jabo is unfit/lacking confidence. Just a few there to discuss/debate, Im sure there'll be plenty who disagree!

Would agree with much of that Northumbrian although one or two observations - a tad harsh to say Ellis is poor on the ball. He's no Peter Murphy, but played some good crossfield balls and generally uses it quite well I think. I think Hope looks a bit lost on the wing - all his best moments come when he cuts inside and goes central (as he did for the build-up to the chance he had cleared off the line). Other than that, I'd go with what you've said.

One thing that stands out for me is how much we're missing Grainger (despite Gillesphey playing well). We could have done with a few of his crosses today and definitely his set-pieces (despite our first goal coming from a free-kick - it was taken short!).

I must say as the season goes on we look way stronger in the CB area and to think last season most thought Troy was a rock imo we have 3 better than him now I must say I like Miller at FB I think there is a good player in there...without looking impenetrable we look a lot sturdier at the back these days

I like Ellis as a defender, reminds me very much of Danny Livesey. However, as with Livesey, his distribution is awful and his arrival coincided with us changing from a decent passing game to a pretty unattractive long ball game. It might just be a coincidence but I've got a feeling Curle felt he had to shore the backline up so brought Ellis in but realised he couldn't play the football he wanted so has changed the teams style of play to suit.

Well, we all see things differently I suppose, I think he's better at right back than playing in the middle or at left back. I'm not saying he's rubbish but not sure why you would drop Raynes for Atkinson which is what you seem to suggest?Or are you in favour of the back three we played earlier in the season? I could cope with Atkinson In a back three.

Gillespie - 7, solid as usual

Atkinson - 6, did ok, settled well into a different role
Raynes - 6, alright until coming off
Ellis - 9, man of the match, best aerial threat and defensive attribute I've seen for a while at the club
McQueen - 6, good going forward but just not reliable defensively especially in the air

Gilliead - 6, took his goal well but quiet otherwise, did nothing wrong
Kennedy - 8, everywhere yesterday, scrapping and spread the ball well
Comley - 8, a proper battler, so much energy and the ability to change our focus from defence to attack in seconds
Hope - 7, still think there's more to come from this lad, he's got that explosive pace but didn't get a lot of room yesterday

Wyke - 8, best game in a while, worked very hard and deserved his goal
Ibehre - 7, did well to turn his man for the Gilliead goal, needs to do more in terms of retaining possession though

Gillesphey - 6, wasn't the change id have made but he didn't do too bad, knocked s few good balls
Asamoah - 6, not long enough to judge really
Sweeney - 6, as above

Curle - 8, attacking selection paid off, even the Gillesphey substitution was more adventurous than Troy.

I don't think Raynes has done much wrong and probably doesn't deserve to be dropped but in my opinion Ellis is a better centre half than him and Atkinson, albeit from limited game time there, has shown how good he can be at CB.So I'd like to see Ellis and Atkinson in a 4-4-2.

Well if you choose to isolate it to just away games then perhaps they aren't a form team I guess. But they played poorly because we didn't allow them to play... We prevented them from playing out of defence all game forcing them to go long from the keeper... Ellis won everything. They aren't a poor side... Their position in the league isn't an accident... We did a good job tactically and prevented them from playing their nirmal game... To me that is excellent from us.

Okay then, 3 wins in 7 home and away. Whichever one you choose to use they certainly weren't THE form team in the league as the form table will testify
