Couldn't have had England in a worse City in France really in the trouble front. Amazed how many people are surprised there has been trouble involving Russians and how many thought Russians wouldn't travel to this in decent numbers - the resorts in Spain are ran by Russians now you keep hearing. A mate flew from Malaga to Marseille Saturday morning and said there were some big lads on! Probably the same ones calling the shots round Banus and Marbella these days.

It does sound like this Wales match could be so unorganised and overpopulated outside that it could be mayhem. Lot of lads going from both nations without tickets.

Mad thing is, because Lens is such a small place, England and Wales fans without tickets are being advised to go to Lille for the fan park there to watch the match... the same place Russia will be against Slovakia the day before!

Its not gone soft really.. just folk are l more civilised at events and arent stuck in the 70s and 80s ....sadly that thug mentality is still alive and kicking...and they do not give a flying [censored] who gets twatted.

Other sports quite rightly laugh at football fan mentality when this is in the news. Pretty sad really.

Seeing a video clip of England and Sweden fans giving it jovial songs yesterday is the fun part..all in good humour..thats how good banter amang fans should be...

England scene has been sanitised massively over the years. England members club is much more families and middle class now, and you are only supposed to be able to get tickets through the members club these days. Very much bands and do gooder "spokesmen". Hooligans have been very much weeded out.
Some would say for the better, and overall I agree, but you rarely got families and shirters being attacked when there was a more shady following.

they need to be wary of being goaded into a scrap now that everyone is watching and waiting for it all to kick off.

Germany and Ukraine fans clashed before their game as well. Drink banned around all matches and in the fan zones, England and Russia threatened with being kicked out if they're involved with any more trouble, and Russia are being charged with crowd disturbances, racist behaviour and the fireworks. Not a great start to the tournament for UEFA and France.

This threat of expulsion is very serious and we could be used as scapegoats for past behaviour. There must have been a lot of English idiots there this weekend but the majority of trouble seems to have come from Russian or French fans. There have been numerous incidents now involving fans of lots of other teams supporters now too. Are they going to ban everyone?

Did you really believe that there would be no trouble in Marseille and that the Russian fa would have the same restrictions on innocent people buying tickets and travelling to France as our fa and government have,Russia and the whole former eastern block do not have a support of people who believe football only started in 1992 and will continue to use the game to promote there nationalist cause ,get out of your naive sky tv world and get back to the good old days

I couldn't give a [censored] about sky TV and the prem and know plenty about other countries footballing cultures.

But I still don't believe that people should he expected to want to fight just for attending a football match at home or abroad.

People that hark back to the 'good old days' need to realise that as a society we have come a long way from that and they have been left behind. Fighting someone simply because they support a different football club to yourself is pathetic.

Our FA also need to realise that there is hooligan elements creeping back into our game and it needs to be stamped out as quickly as possible. Football now is a totally different thing to the past and is seen as a form of entertainment that people should he able to take their family to, not for a group of pissed blokes to smash other pissed blokes because they support different clubs.

Is a hooligan element creeping back into the game in England? Apart from Millwall I can't think of too many serious incidents in the last few years considering the amount of games that are played. It's never been safer to watch football.

As for the England fans I doubt there would have been much bother if they hadn't been set upon by the French and the Russians.

No mention of kicking the French out!

Germany and Ukraine fans also fighting last night. I await their threat of expulsion!

It's slowly happening mate, there was West ham last season too. Majority of trouble now happens away from grounds so doesn't affect the actual game.

UEFA can only impose sanctions if the trouble happens inside the stadium, anything else is outside of their jurisdiction

One of the probs was maybe the Russians and the French werent pissed up but were organised and had only one intention. Read something yesterday about the English hooligans being bullies for years now a bigger bully has come along and theyre crying to teacher. Maybe a bit of truth in that but dont think its as simple.

You couldn't pay me enough to go to Marseilles and drink in those bars with most of them clowns. :cheer:

They do make themselves an easy target for the locals but as has been said why were England playing there?

Really?

You said the other day in relation to England fans being involved in trouble "do you see fans of Germany, Spain, Poland or Russia fighting on the streets and getting tear gassed by police?"

Well the tournament's only 3 days old and 3 of your 4 nations have been fighting in the streets and getting tear gassed, I think you might be safe with Spain though so well done on that one.

Hindsight really is a great thing isn't it.

The comment your referring to was made on the first day of the tournament. Up till then it had only been England fans. And as far as I'm aware polish and Irish fans were attacked by the French, they didn't instigate the trouble.

Your comment was very naive, surprised you're still trying to defend it.

According to the latest reports, the Russian hooligans had been training for 6 months ahead of the tournament.

Pretty poor mind that comment about fans who have never had a fight in their lives. For a lot of these Eastern Europeans and indeed many westerners or whatever absolutely anything is fair game to use in a fight. I'm not a fan of "face painters" myself but bloody hell they shouldn't need to be street fighters to avoid coming away from a football match without having had their heads kicked in!

You don't need hindsight to know the Russians and Polish have chronic hooliganism problems and would be involved in trouble in this tournament. I'd have thought someone who "knows plenty about other country's footballing cultures" would especially have known this.

The reason it was only England fans who had been involved in trouble come the first day of the tournament was down to the fact they were the only ones to have arrived at that time! Which incidents do you talk of which England instigated by the way? Every single report I've read and heard of from France was England fans coming under attack, much the same as the Poles and Irish.

Jeremy Vine had a guest on today who is a professor who was out there studying the crowds. From his experience it sounded like the English fans were ambushed by both the local thugs and Russians and were faultless this time. It was very enlightening, was the last guest if anyone interested on listening on catch up.

I think NS is pointing to the rumour that one of the Russians who been seen in several places is well known along a stretch of the Spanish Coast - No idea if it's true etc!

Meanwhile, these Russians are 'Go-Pro'ing' during their rucks!

Where does he live?

Southern Spain Pueto Banus i belive it is some guy recognised him as being his local drug dealers minder.

Apparently wears the same hood and mask on the streets down there.

Relaying a rumour which you've read on the Internet does not constitute "knowing where he lives"

Which guy recognised him?

Not the easiest place to arrest someone Russian the Costa Del Sol I imagine, especially as a foreign police force. Place is bent as hell, like most of Spain really.

Come off it. Non-EU citizens are here as well. In fact, more non-EU citizens moved here last year than EU citizens.

It's absurd to claim that has anything to do with the EU. Those in Spain may be free to roam the Schengen Area, but they can't come here unless we give them the ok.

That will not change in the slightest if we leave.

I was on a stag do in Benidorm around this time last year and the exact same thing happened to us pretty much word for word with that article. Ridiculous experience.

Well apparently the French intercepted and returned more Russians coming in on budget airlines .....so it can be done. Schengen has been the cause of all the problems we see throughout Europe . my understanding has always been it was only for citizens of member states to be able to move about freely ..crazy and naive and dangerous . Agree the UK government must step up checks at our airports and ports .
