He signed on loan for us in Feb/March 86.
Then signed permanently in July 86.
I remember the 2-5 defeat. But can't remember the goal scorers.

Micky Quinn got a hat trick I think.

Don't think Quinn got the hat trick, I'm almost certain it was Roger Palmer.
Just dug out my Lads in Blue book, according to that our scorers against Oldham were Paul Gorman and Don O'Riordan.
Attendance was just 2535.

They had a good side that season but we had 2 tight league games with them either side of the final, sure they got a last minute equaliser up here. Then the following season about 6 months later we beat them in the league at home. The fact is we were absolutely crap that day at Wembley and it was embarrassing. Sure Abbott made his first substitution at 4-0 down

The one that's always annoyed me the most was the 1-5 off Hull, mentioned above. I'm still convinced that Matty Glennon's "performance" in goal was part of his transfer fee. Never liked him and was glad when he left.

Never liked him?! I liked him when he saved that pen at Field Mill; I liked him even more when saved those pens against Aldershot.
Must have loads of worse keepers than him over the years. In my 30 years watching he's easily in the top ten I've seen play for us.

Tonkings - Blackpool away in 91 was my first away game. Think we had 2 ruled out before they scored. Headline in the evening news may have been "Orange Crush".

Not a hammering per se but we lost 2-0 at Darlington's new ground under Collins in probably the worst away performance I've ever seen.

Another Collins era hammering at Wrexham was pretty grim, Baldachino came on and scored (or set up) a consolation, 6-1. I also recall being 6-0 down at Peterborough after an hour before Reeves pulled one back for 6-1. That was grim.

Best hammering, as previously mentioned was 6-0 at Rochdale when we just sang all game and didn't even pause for breath when they scored their goals.

Worst one that has not been mentioned on my 21st birthday in the days of Peter Beardsley we drew 0_0 with Bristol city in fa cup 4th round on a frozen Braunton Park replay four days later drove down in an old mini had to push start it every time we stopped I think we got beat 5-0 with a good thousand pissed off blues fans there to make it worse we took wrong turn out-of Bristol and nearly ended up in Weston-super-Mare got back about 6am had cup of tea and went to work

Game was utter shit, seem to remember Collins pretty much said Craig Farrell was "mentally unstable" after the game too.

It was buzzing and my hopes were high...for about 5 more minutes. That was a terrible terrible performance from a terrible team. Don't think I've seen anyone mention the 6-0 defeat at Peterborough in March 2011. Truly horrendous performance, Liam Cooper sent off and Peterborough somehow missed two penalties in the process. Carlisle fans were singing the great escape for just about the entirety of the second half. Harry Arter, Ben Marshall and Francois Zoko all started that day.

This shows the second penalty miss and FT whistle:

Fast forward three weeks and 9 of the 11 that started that game were in the starting line-up for the JPT Final victory over Brentford at Wembley... So much for the concept of wanting to play for your places ahead of a huge fixture!
