Wouldn't be any point playing him unless we were interested in a deal.

Instead of signing Asamoah id rather we gave Shaun Miller the chance to start either with Wyke or behind him in my preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Derek Asamoah was great for us during his time here. But Christ, it would be a backward step handing him a deal. We've got proven strikers at this level in the squad who can't get a game... Let's hope it is just to keep him fit as a favour.

We've got proven strikers at this level who aren't playing very well.

Absolutely no harm in giving him a 3 month deal until the window opens again, adds another option.

Aren't playing well? Wyke has 5 goals in 10, not started some of them either.

I dont think we need him but i can see why we prople want him back, a injection of pace into a fair slow squad if players and we only have 3 forwards in the squad at the moment.

"The club and Derek are in conversation but it would have to be right for kc, the club and Derek. We all know what derek can do, he can hurt teams. He is more than good enough for this level, it was a difficult decision in the summer to let him go but we had to take a chance something would fall for us in the transfer market"

Lee Dykes after yesterdays game. Also said the trialist was excellent.

A lot of people have short memories. He was outstanding in games for us last season, coming on and changing the games in others.

QPR away in the League Cup. Started, top performance leading the line, a goal and an assist.

Liverpool away in the League Cup. Well, we all know about that one don't we? Started. Superb goal, worked his arse off. Leading the line on his own.

Morecambe away in the league. Off the bench to score the winner, changed the game when he came on with his pace.

Luton away in the league. Started. Superb goal in 4-3 win.

Barnet at home in the league. Started. Scored 2 in a 3-2 win.

Leyton Orient away in the league. Started. Lead the line again on his own, scored in a 2-1 win.

In the first half of the season last season he was instrumental for us at times. Away from home especially, he lead the line on his own, most notably away to QPR and Liverpool.

If he's fit, I would 100% sign him. He'd add something to our front line, pacey, skillful, and works his bollocks off everytime he's on the pitch.

Also, if he can prove his fitness which I'm sure he can, can't see fitness throughout the season being an issue either.

Played 51 times for us last season, starting 18 games, completing the full 90 mins 9 times.

Wyke has 4 goals this season, most of them tap-ins, doesn't mean he's playing well! He's missed more sitters than he's scored, often wanting to take too many touches. Saturday was his first start in 7 games so it's obvious he's not playing that well!

Apart from a few decent assists I haven't been impressed in the slightest with Shaun Miller since he arrived, whether it's been his employment as a lone striker or the scarce use of Devitt behind him I don't know but he could do with seizing his chance when he next gets it. None of the strikers have done enough to argue with Curle for leaving them out.

Wyke is a striker. His job is to score goals. He's scoring goals, regardless of wether it's 4 or 5.

How this makes him not 'doing enough' is beyond me!

Its unofficially 5, i am sorry. the 5th goal went down as Raynes but he did say it was Wyke's.

So one think wyke is poor, One miller and most think Ibehre is. We are doomed, get degsy on.

If he's doing enough then it's strange Saturday was his first start in 7 games! As well as scoring goals it's also his job to play well, which he hasn't been doing, none of the strikers have. The story of our season has been our inability to put our chances away when we've been dominating teams and all 3 strikers have been guilty of numerous glaring misses so far this season, hence why none have had a settled place and why we continue to be trialing strikers in friendlies.

It's impossible to argue our forwards are doing a good job if they were we would be sitting on top of the league. We are still short of a decent striker.

Came off the bench. its ruined!

He started. Must try harder.

Derek was deemed not good enough for a new contract anymore in the summer.... it's a bit of a back track to now say he is.... or maybe it shows you that we didn't land a suitable replacement? As we are short of numbers in the squad I've not got a problem with him getting a short term contract... he can be a useful impact sub. Personally I'd like to see us give Miller more time. He can clearly score goals but we need to pair him with Devitt and be a bit patient... we always expect new players to be amazing from week 1.... that's not how it works in the real world, it can take time to settle and get used to the teams style of play.

Again, I don't think strikers are really our issue this season... it's the bloody defence AGAIN! Derek could prove to be a useful squad player though.

That's basically what it sounds like KC and Dyke's thoughts are. Dyke said that they'd released him because they thought they could sign someone better in the window, but that didn't come to fruition.

It's hardly a surprise the defence is crap again as we're playing exactly the same defence that was crap last season and somehow hoping for or expecting a different outcome. Unless Brisley comes in and suddenly transforms everything then the same mistakes are going to be made every week, the same players will be making those errors and we'll carry on conceding ridiculous numbers of goals and having this discussion after every game.

It amazes me that Curle, an international defender, has not adequately improved the defence in his time here. It was the same under Kavanagh, an international midfielder, who could get neither a decent team nor midfield together. I think Curle has done a good job improving the midfield and attack, credit where it's due, but defensively, nothing will change unless something changes. Is Derek Asamoah, despite the qualities he undoubtedly brings, going to turn this team into a promotion winning side? No he isn't.

But the midfield IS better than last season ...that's the difference till recently when soft goals have crept in again...keep the midfield tight and forward looking and DA could be the catalyst and the spark !

Aye we do need a pacey option from the bench. Particularly when we've got Jamie Devitt threading passes through for someone to run on to like he was today.

If we sign someone else more long term in January, fair enough move on. But for now Asamoah will be a useful option to have.

What has possibly been overlooked is that Keith Curle obviously has a ruthless streak, Asamoah I would have said was his most trusted player and I would guess a friend as well but with Asamoahs wage demands being so high they obviously couldn't come to an agreement in the summer.

Maybe Asamoah is happy to come back on revised terms.
