Fair play to him for talking about it and dealing with it. If anything you'd thing working with our board of directors would drive him to drink not the other way round.

Good on him for accepting his demons and getting help for them. A positive should be that he can potentially spot any problems that could develop for lads at the club and help them.

It might also explain his stuttering managerial career so far because he seems to have all the right attributes and professionalism now to go on and have a really good career.
Carlisle seems to suit him too. A good match. I hope he stays with us for a few years and gets us up the leagues and leaves behind a strong set up that someone else can take over from. It seems like the playing side needed a real shake up. He knows the importance of this chance and he is certainly making the most of it.
Always good to see a person come good after they have had a serious problem or illness. Well done Keith.

A very common issue in the game unfortunately and is something that is not spoken of nearly enough, in particularly with players whose playing careers are not long finished. There is little support for players once their careers are over. Gambling is another massive issue for ex-players. Tony Adams' sporting chance clinic is nearly always full and the PFA are little help once they have dropped out the game.

Huge respect to the man. A difficult thing to admit and now we see what is driving him to success. Glad that he is now happy at Carlisle.

As Jimmy Greaves once said, an alcoholic can never be fully recovered, but good to see the positive comments on this board.
Time to get behind the man, and hope we can keep him as long as possible, because good Managers in this league are very rare.

I bet when he seen the squad that Kavanagh had left him his immediate thoughts will have been to go right back on the sauce so fair play to him for refraining.

Makes you wonder whether this came as news to the 3 horsemen as they wernt really in a position to gamble on the appointment at the time.

But may also explain how he got the job if it was common knowledge he may of been asking for crap money to get back into the game something that would certainly of appealed to Nixon and co.

And may explain some of the complications that came up over the issue of his new contract that dragged on for ever.

May also explain some of the posts on that now closed Twitter account from him his wife and his older offspring and why he now places such great stead on his privacy in his time away from the club.

He was sacked after the unbeaten run ended, and although he wasn't losing games away, when he got the boot he had only won 2 in the last 11, dropping to mid table when Notts had backed him to get playoffs that season. Attendances had started to drop too due to poor home performances.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself on the pitch then. Already see some of that with plenty of draws and few wins

Well i dont think you.ll find many who.ll agree with you the fans backed him at the time as did the local media both then and since and looking back at it words like "external factors" were used now it looks like we know what they were talking about.

Reasons listed are:
-2 wins in 11
-slip to 10th in the table at Feb.
-board feel squad is capable of promotion.
-poor recent displays
-poor disciplinary record
-fall in attendances

External factors isn't used at all.

Also the chairman's wife handed a piece of paper to Curle on the morning of a match day with a list of names on it and it was the team she wanted him to play that day, they ended up having a big argument over it and he didn't last long after that.

He also took great pleasure in bumming them 3-0 and 5-0 last season for that exact reason.

Fair play to Keith on this.

Having an addiction myself, I know first hand the difficulties in accepting you have a problem and then talking about it. Mine is gambling and sadly I went back again a few weeks ago. Although I was up a fair bit it began to drive my mad again where it was the only thing I could think about so it wasn't long until I had to ban myself again. Fair play again to Keith as addiction is a strange one and plays with your mind so much.

Yep - Football bets were coming in but I'd put the money back in the machines.

The panorama show the other week on them was scary. The responsible gambling team looking at the impact of these are full of bookmakers and not one person who has had issues with these.

I was one of these people that said if your addicted to something its your own fault. It partly is to begin with but the brain studies were very interesting and explains why reasoning and consequence goes out of the window.

Hope you manage it mate. That programme was indeed scary. As are the slot machines on bookies websites, i play them now and again but only if ive had a decent day. Its scary that i had my stakes limited on 888sport to a couple of quid but still managed to click on a 25 line slot with them thats default stake was £10 a line. Wonder how many people have accidentally spun at that level and lost all their money. No scruples at all and look like youve a idea what your doing betting you wont last 5 minutes

Never saw that one but be little that surprises me anyway I would imagine.

Why don't you just self exclude from all bookmakers in Carlisle and bet at bet365 online - ban yourself from everything apart from Sports and see how you do?

Being limited by 888 is nothing hard, Kambi are pathetic at trading - probably paired you up to a Stan James or 32RedSport account. If you are just playing specials or enhanced I have no sympathy to be honest. Going to be a big player from the U.S. entering the UK market soon and I have been told they will be playing everyone to the house limit, taking 50k on 1x2 Premier League I imagine. The casino stuff is horrendous like and needs banned or at least looked at in the way Australia has.

Yeah ive self excluded.

The only issue with online for me is that i'm an inpatient bugger so I got annoyed having to wait 3 days to get the money. The best thing for me though is not to do it at all.

I would say so as well to be honest for your own good but online now you can have it within 6 hours if you use PayPal normally. Hills did trial it where you could withdraw from a cashpoint but don't think it succeeded.

Having actually spoken to some of the highest profile Premier League Managers going and taking their bets I would say gambling is the biggest problem within English Football.

I did do some offers but they started this premier player scheme and enrolled me in it. Basically you got cashback depending on how much you bet with them. Highest level was £3k+ a week got you £50 added to your account every monday. I took advantage of it most weeks for best part of 3 months backing horses. Obv i didnt have £3k liability on them though ;)

You can bet online with Ladbrokes and collect winnings in any of their shops.

He can't go in the shops (mini casinos) though.

Hope you get yourself sorted Mullen, like Wazza, seen it happen all to often to good people.

The whole industry is up the spout anyway, waste of time at the minute. Not many willing to take a proper bet anymore, what's the point taking on somebody who might beat you when you can load up the shops with roulette machines? De-risks the whole thing from the bookies point of view.

What type of bets are you wanting though as Star Sports on the phone will play you easily for a good period without limiting you on Horse Racing.

Sorry but a lot of this sounds like shocking trading as oppose to clever punting.

No doubt it's poor trading Wazza as opposed to there being lots of people on here fleecing bookies so much to send them running for the hills.

From the bookies perspective though, why bother laying big bets where you can potentially lose, as opposed to dead cert winnings from FOBTs?

Not everyone ends up playing on FOBTS though or casinos online, still plenty of customers with restraint who lose money constantly on sport and when you see the figures you get from people playing these crazy football accas nigh on daily it is crazy how quickly some people get limited, so many traders now with zero experience. It's amazing how many people genuinely think these groups on social media where the author is switching from match to match on bet365 in play is someone clued up! When the reality is its someone paid by the firm drumming up interest.

A new account where the client wins 5k (example sum) off a multiple on the football with his first bet is often eventually a very profitable customer to a firm, many people (traders included) would close him/her after it. It's the ones beating the sp who are the ones to be careful about long term.

Bet365 have managed to become the most profitable bookmaker in the world without FOBTS due to a dedication to in play sport.

Apologies for this thread turning this way. For me Curle seems more like a man who had a lot of spare time at a point in his life and needed to fill it rather than an alcoholic but different people have different views on what an alcoholic is, a lad I met a few year ago thought of you drank before 3pm on a Saturday you were one!

It's an absolute mug's game gambling and can be very bad for your health but I wouldn't class it as an illness in the same way you could alcoholism and drug addiction.

You probably need to be a bit more open minded, seen drugs, gambling and alcohol destroy plenty of people personally - even though they knew fine well those addictions were bad for them.

Getting a mortgage can be a gamble for example, lots of things can be - even moving jobs can be a gamble. Seen a few people financially ruined by going down the self employed route as well.

But this view by some that people don't actually win long term at gambling is very narrow minded though. There is a whole world of difference between gambling on say a roulette wheel to say playing sports betting. Takes a lot of discipline and time but it can be done.

The chances of say sitting in your own piss with no idea how you got there or maybe your vital organs packing in are a bit less with gambling I would think. :cheer:

One of the biggest shocks I read was years ago reading a book on John Lennon and learning he regularly took heroin apparently but was excellent at controlling his use of it. Funny world.

Might explain his sacking from Notts County while in the middle of a 22 game unbeaten away run.

He was sacked after the unbeaten run ended, and although he wasn't losing games away, when he got the boot he had only won 2 in the last 11, dropping to mid table when Notts had backed him to get playoffs that season. Attendances had started to drop too due to poor home performances.

Well i dont think you.ll find many who.ll agree with you the fans backed him at the time as did the local media both then and since and looking back at it words like "external factors" were used now it looks like we know what they were talking about.

mobile.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/article/...th-curle-636418.aspx

Or we could stop talking shit yeah ?

Reasons listed are:
-2 wins in 11
-slip to 10th in the table at Feb.
-board feel squad is capable of promotion.
-poor recent displays
-poor disciplinary record
-fall in attendances

External factors isn't used at all.

Keep up Mr FU CKIN THINKS HE KNOWS IT ALL its less than 3 months since an article by the local papers reporter was re posted on here questioning the real reasons why he was sacked i suggest you have a read of that.

Why would you expect to find the truth in a statement issued by NCFC Ray Trew and his bitch of a wife are well known as bigger liars than that the tw ats who inhabit the boardroom at Brunton Park.

You really can't handle it when people disagree with you can you ?

How come NS knows everything about everything and everybody especially if its a bit controversial.
