Should it not be EFL to 86 + 20 premier league teams?

According to reports coming out of a meeting of Premier League clubs early last week the Championship clubs may not be around much longer and they refused to discuss where their discussions with the PL are at during the FL meeting last week.

Yes.
It looks like they are thinking about a Premier League 1 & 2, with the EFL forming a new third division with teams from the National League.
Result probably meaning more cash for the Premier League and the rest having even smaller scraps.

Yes thats the plan and the sooner the better for me but the problem is the PL only want 20 teams so you can see major problems ahead in deciding how the work out the 4 to drop but the good news is that they are planning keeping automatic promotion but it may be cut down to 2 places.

The big issue for me would be the standard of the clubs who would come up i would rather see them invite clubs like AFC Fylde with good grounds and potential to go forward rather than just accept the highest placed teams one year

Something has to change in the top 2 divisions as the parachute payments are a total joke.
Newcastle and Villa have spent over £110M in the second division between them this year!
Villa still shit mind, and the barcodes aren't exactly running away with it. Both will probably go up though, especially if they lump on in January as well.
Still don't understand why there are not parachute payments to the bottom 2 divisions using that logic.

They are like that because Premier league teams wouldn't vote to have them taken away.

Villa, Newcastle and Norwich going straight back up would he advantageous financially for us because if a team goes straight back up the remaining parachutes get split between the 3 leagues. All 3 going straight up would see about £150m split.

I can see the merits and simplicity of a 20 team Championship but in the long term if we were to get owners with ambition and money it's not the best news for clubs the size of Carlisle. It's obviously easier to get into now with more places available.. Like Burton have done... And from there you may get up to the Premier League.. Like Bournemouth and Burnley have done...

Totally agree about the parachute payments being an absolute farce

Would be better to have a Championship of 22 teams like it was in the old Division 2 days. After all Championship sides are never involved in the Champions League so fixture congestion isn't too bad. Give it a try for a few seasons and then if they prefer a 20 team league they can vote to reduce it again.
Would be easier and less painful to reduce it by a team a season by relegating three teams and promoting the League 1 champions and another via playoffs, by those finishing 2nd to fifth as they do in the National League.
Would like to see Leagues 1 & 2 stop at 24 teams as they never play in Europe and don't often suffer lay offs because of International games.

Thought the parachute payments come from the Premier League? Not sure how that benefits the FL.

Part of a deal between PL and FL. Though in truth it was a agree to it or lose it offer.
