Chaged at the start of the year in the prem, I'm guessing we both play by the same rules..

In an effort to stop referees brandishing yellow cards for every handball, "preventing an opponent gaining possession" has been removed from the list of bookable offences.

Handball is now a yellow card offence when "it stops/interferes with a promising attack".

Interesting that...am still struggling to see what Miller did for his 2nd yellow ...he sprawled his length and his hand happened to touch the ball the way I've seen it twice now. He neither pushed it away or handled deliberately IMO!

Of course he did, you can see his hand push forward and touch the ball towards a Carlisle player, plain as anything.

The frustration I have is that you can look at the second yellow and say he was silly, but every game there are lots of cynical fouls, diving, gamesmanship etc. All minor stuff but pushing the boundaries of what you can get away with. We do it as much as anyone else.
It is now an expected part of the game.
If referees had a zero tolerance and booked every time someone committed these type of offences, then it would cut it out of the game, but there seems to be no consistency whatsoever.
So when an innocuous incident results in a red card, fair enough he should have been more careful, but I think he can consider himself a bit unlucky in the context of what goes on every week.

The ref is just walking over and no hint of a yellow card until he sees the keeper flying out of goal and the way their fans celebrated it was pathetic.

No complaints on the decision for me - was a stupid thing to do after picking up another stupid yellow card in the first-half. No need for it in an area where there was no danger.

No disputing it was a hand ball - but under what law was he booked?

Watching the highlights the hangers goal keeper certainly influence the ref. Hope he is happy getting a fellow professional sent off. That said Miller was a bit daft handling in first place. Soft yellow

So what about a few minutes later when their guy on the e.stand touch line committed a foul and BLATANTLY threw the ball away. The ref was stood 2 yards away! No card for him ..Curle immediately went to the 4th official

So if an attacker punches the ball into the opposition net it's not a yellow card anymore?

Anyone watch the Boro game earlier. Lad had already been booked and committed a foul that was worth a yellow in anyones book. Apart from the ref that is.

A player's reaction is normally a dead giveaway, Miller knew he'd done wrong and didn't even argue the decision. Blatant a handball as you can get.

Hate seeing it happen, an awful trait in a footballer. To be honest though, Raynes does it most weeks.

That still interferes with a promising attack, their own.

I said at the time it was a yellow card (deliberate handball) and again on Facebook earlier today. Seems I was wrong. The law has changed...

Q3: Why has the wording for a caution (YC) for handball changed?
Some referees were interpreting every handball as ‘denying the opponents possession’ so every handball was punished with a caution (YC) - this was not the intention of the Law. Where a handball affects the opponents it should be judged like a foul – if it stops or interferes with a promising attack then it is a caution (YC).

The referee then didn't know the new hand ball changes in the rules. Must admit I thought the ref got them both right according to what I thought was the rules. What He wasn't was not consistent ,in the first half a few mins after the first booking the Hartlepool player did indentical and wasn't booked.

Opposition fans always cheer when player is sent off..

Of course goalie rushed out to remind ref they all do it

Nothing controversial...apart from the fact that Miller got a 2nd yellow card for doing something that since the beginning of this season has no longer been a yellow card offence?

surely then the club should ask for clarification on this and get the red card rescinded and of course send the ref for retraining

You can't appeal a Yellow though, which is what was given...

Very true...the club shouldn't need to appeal it though. When the referee sends his report in, somebody should say "hang on a minute, you can't give a yellow card for that!" and it should be rescinded without even needing an appeal.

Of course, that won't happen though.

my point was if the referee got it wrong (he did) then surely the club can raise the question with the EFL as to why their appointed officials dont appear to understand the rules of the game. and why did the ref allow their goalie to have a go at the ref (again against their rules) Its a simple question another point the linesman on the paddock needs to be retrained on the off-side law

To me this was a deserved yellow for unsporting behaviour rather than handball.

It looked like he tried a sneaky pass to a blue shirt with his hand and got caught.
