Ditto above more or less...and thought Ellis played very well... was able to switch positions with ease when Miller went off!

I was well impressed with Brisley. Some of defensive headers were superb, and he looked very composed on the ball, more so than Raynes, Ellis and Miller who each got dispossed first half which nearly proved costly on each occasion.

Brisley was the pick of our back 4 today imo. Bit of a selection headache for Curle which is good.

Aye Brisley's back heel was the worst of the defensive errors for me because it was so needless.

Didn't think we played particularly well today. Quite a lot mistakes around and 3 extremely poor goals to concede. Of course Joyce's was a tremendous hit but it came from a rubbish defensive header.

The defence done well, just shots from 20 yards plus, until a couple late headers which were no trouble. obviously the goal aside where a couple seemed to switch off.

Would have no problem with Ellis being an emergency right/left back in the future.

Got to totally disagree about Ellis. Crawley played right into his hands hitting long diagonals in the air to both wingers. If they'd got the ball to the wingers feet I'd have been very concerned. Remember his booking? Remember when he lost the ball in his own box? Have you rewatched Crawleys goal? He put in a cracking effort but is not a left back.

Gillespie 7. Nowt to do.
Miller 7. Battled
Raynes 7. Organised.
Brisley 7. Read game well, rusty decisions a couple of times.
Ellis 7. Top out of position effort.
Adams. 8.5 Quality, effort and end product.
Jones 8. Proper pro.
Joyce 8. Effective and a blinding strike.
Kennedy 8. Scored another scruffy goal again, priceless, team player.
Wyke 7. Sensible if unspectacular.
Ibhere 7.5 As above but with goal.

Brough 6. Not tested. Makes me worry, languid.
Miller 6. Not on long. I like this fella, kicks a ball properly.
Devitt 6. As above. There's some quality here's waiting to come out.

Thought the game was a bit subdued today. Maybe after the dramatics of the hartlepool game. Crowd was a bit flat as well, possibly down to such a small turn out of away fans. Good to see us winning when we are not at our best.

A non-eventful second half is exactly what we wanted, to be fair. Kill them off in the first half and then make the second half a compete non-event.

Gillespie 7. - Apart from flapping at one high ball I thought he did well. He had some god awful pass backs to deal with under pressure and was well positioned on a couple of Crawley efforts. Notably the one that hammered him in the chest knocking the wind out of him.
Miller 6 - Still not at his best. Got skinned a couple of times... luckily for him Kennedy saved his bacon with an awesome tackle on one of those occasions. Also got badly caught out trying to shepherd a ball out for a goal kick and having his pocket picked.
Raynes 7.- Was dominant in the air. Nice header for the assist on Kennedy's goal. Caught out a few times at the back ball watching and messing around on the ball.
Brisley 7. - Looked good. Had a decent amount of pace and looked more comfortable on the ball than our other defenders. Made a couple of unforced errors too though.
Ellis 7. - Started badly with a horrible mistake in possession letting Crawley in down the right... luckily they stuffed up a great opportunity. I thought he did a very good job out of position after that though... although it has to be said he basically just had to defend high diagonal balls all game, which is his stock game. Listening to Curle on the radio that is exactly why he was picked...they expected long diagonals. I'd be very concerned if he played left back against a pacy tricky winger... but credit where credit is due... he did well after a dodgy start yesterday.
Adams. 8 - Some fantastic crosses and delivery from set pieces. Busy and tidy around the pitch.
Jones 9 - The perfect holding midfielder for this division. Controlled possession, covered any half breaks and he is so composed on the ball under pressure that I never have a worry that he might lose it in a bad position.
Joyce 9.5 - . Covered every blade of grass, some great interceptions and a wonder goal. Not much more the lad could do to improve on that performance... he lost the ball a few times in possession so I won't give him a 10.
Kennedy 9. - Lung busting display. I'd love to see the distance stats for Carlisle as I doubt anybody in the country covers more meters than Kennedy. At one point he chased back 70 yards at top speed to make a great sliding tackle in the box after Miller had been easily beaten on the wing. Fantastic run for the goal too... he made up a hell of a lot of ground to get in front of that defender.
Wyke 5.5. - Well below par. Failed miserably to hold the ball up, didn't jump for headers, didn't cause any real problems for Crawley besides one snap volley. That isn't good enough when you consider the service the forwards are getting from midfield now.
Ibhere 7 - Unlike Wyke he held the ball up well and linked play with the midfield. Nice leap for the goal. Caught offside too often though.

Brough 6. - Okay
Miller 6.5 - Chased an harried.
Devitt 6.5 - I like Devitt, he has real intelligence and quality in his play. A couple of threaded passes were inches away from creating a goal.

Overall it was a decent game from the Carlisle players with the match pretty much wrapped up by half time. It has to be said that the defence looked dodgy at times and Crawley still had plenty of opportunities to score... it's a good job they kept ballsing them up. I was having a heart attack about some of the ridiculous passing square across our own area for no reason. That is a stupid risk and we only just got away with it a few times. The real positive at the moment is our midfield... they were absolutely dominant and have to be the best midfield in the division currently. Well done to the team... great result considering the changes that were forced onto them before kick off.

In all my years of watching from the paddock, I am aware that it is possible for the crowd to get into it, but most of the time games are fairly low key.
That game was always in the balance, we took the lead 3 times, Hartlepool had a go from the start, the sending off, the vocal away following. In terms of excitement , you won't get that in your average game.
We are playing well but we are not Barcelona.
Crawley gave away two fairly soft goals then we scored a cracker - game over.
If you think we are not playing well at the moment and the games are mediocre then you probably are setting your sights a bit too high.
This is about as good as it gets.
