A lovely friendly visit to St Albans capped by a professional display. Nothing great but a workmanlike performance from the lads.

Raynes - 6 (Took a card for the team and was rightly subbed to save him from a red)

Kennedy - 8 (Another MoM game)
Jones - 6 (A bit below par)

Wyke - 5 (Very disappointing)
Ibehre - 7.5 (A good physical battle and two goals)

I think a 6 for Ellis is being kind. I'm normally a fan but he was pretty poor today - arguably had a fault in each of their goals. If it's proved one thing, it's this idea that he can play full-back is utter nonsense (I could understand in an emergency during an actual game if he moved over there, but no-way should he be starting in that position.

Made hard-work of that game tbh, St Albans were okay but the three goals they got flattered them. Wonder strike for the first but he should never have been allowed to to cut inside in the first place. The second goal, no-one got tight enough to him and you could argue the same for the third. At least we're still clinical at the other end.

Gillespie - 6 - Some argument over whether he should get beaten with a low shot from so far out (first goal) but he did make one excellent save to keep it at 1-0. Did okay in horrible conditions.

Ellis - 5 - Not a full-back and his poor performance in that position transferred with him to centre-back after that.

Raynes - 5.5 - Unusually flustered but don't think he was helped by Ellis' performance to the right of him. Correct decision to sub him, don't need him getting suspended for a league game.

Brisley - 6.5 - Like the look of him. Dominant in the air and very comfortable on the ball.

Grainger - 6 - Solid performance. Good penalty and a few decent deliveries into the box.

Kennedy - 6 - Good run to get on the end of the corner for his goal, but really should have had a second late on.

Joyce - 6 - Not quite as good as some of his performances this season but didn't do much wrong. Despite his goal last week, was reluctant to shoot!

Jones - 6 - Much like Joyce - not as good as other performances this season but still decent. Good ball in for Jabo's first.

Adams - 6.5 - Good quality deliveries once again, still think sometimes he should be more selfish and shoot. Good call to sub him late on and give him some kind of a rest.

Wyke - 5.5 - Below-par really by his standards but force a good save from their keeper at 1-1 and did well to win the penalty.

Ibehre - 7 - Our best player by a fair bit. Strong, held the ball up well to bring others into play and took both his goals well.

Subs

Lambe - 6 - Would have rather seen T Miller on when Raynes was subbed but thankfully their left-winger tired and he didn't have too much defending to do. Looked much better when pushed further forward late on.

T. Miller - 6 - Did his job well after coming on, not much got past him.

S. Miller - 6 - Some good runs and caused a few problems.


I think we got a bit lucky here and Curle took a big risk with that team selection and then the initial sub. If Tom Miller wasn't up to much more than half an hour then fair enough, but I thought we missed him today and particularly his threat from long-throws (plenty of room for the run-ups there, as their lad showed). Can't grumble too much as we're in the next round mind - will need to play better at Newport next week.

MBlue's ratings seem reasonable to me. I would have given Joyce and Jones 7 each as they dominated the midfield battle - a bit of a hiding to nothing as they were expected to look a class above them and delivered. They were carrying Kennedy for a while, who had to struggle through with a bad knock for a spell in the first half. Apart from that miss, good to see him look fine by the end
Perhaps a 7.5 to Jabo to give him some deserved daylight.

Even though the conditions were awful I have never heard a Carlisle away crowd quieter. It certainly didn't look like there were 600 there. It looked less than half full on our tiny terrace.

Always had a soft spot for 'Wind and Wuthering' and for the drumming on opener 'Down and Out' alone, 'And Then There Were Three'.

We were in the end closest to the hot dog stand and even though it was full it was certainly not packed. If you watch the highlights though the other end of our terrace is empty and certainly doesnt look like 575 - more like 300 max.
