TOPIC: Ratings Newport

A poor performance to lose our unbeaten record. Physically out-fought and tactically out-thought. Graham Westley, whatever you think of him, did his homework and overran our midfield with the use of wing-backs. Sadly, it took Curle until half-time to make the obvious changes and remove the skilful, but not physical S Miller and put an additional player into the midfield.

Here you go:

Gillespie - 6 Didn't have much to do but two good saves
T Miller - 6
Grainger - 6 }The defenders generally battled and tried to press forward but to no avail.
Raynes - 6
Gillesphey - 5.5 Gets marked down for a few very wayward balls towards our forwards - he had more time to place a pass.
Jones - 6
Joyce - 6 } Midfield was outnumbered by Newport using wing backs in the 1st half and were constantly chasing players getting in behind them.
Adams - 6.5 Worked really hard to fashion an opening.
Kennedy - 6
S Miller - 4.5 Never a player for the physical battle. A touch player who never once read anything Jabo tried to hold up for him
Ibehre - 6 Fighting a lonely battle but missed that goal scorers touch with the volley over the bar.

Subs
Wyke - 6 Battled
Lambe - 6.5 Created some openings on the right
Asamoah - 5.5 Never quite got into the game...no service?

Curle - 5 Tactically beaten and took far too long to make changes. S Miller was the wrong man for this type of game.

Cheers for the ratings and good effort making that trip.
Killer conceding a goal in the first 5 minutes, then the whole dynamic of the game changes.
He brought two subs on at half-time.
Not very often you would see tactical substitutions before half-time, unless you are getting completely mullered.
Slightly worrying for me that the likes of Lambe and Asamoah were not able to make much impact off the bench.

Think I agree pretty much with the ratings except I would probably knock .5 off everyone. I can't remember a second ball being won in the firt half, or more than two passes being strung together. We just weren't at the races. Second half we impro9ved and I'm sure if we had got one goal we would have got two, the problem being we never troubled their keeper and never looked like scoring.

It's not a disaster, we haven't suddenly turned into a bad team. Just a disappointing day against a team fighting for their lives.

Think you've got those ratings totally wrong Baggers. You've got 3 players with lower ratings than Grainger when it was plainly obvious from the 2 minute highlights clip which Mush watched that he was the worst player. I'd rather believe someone who's watched the highlights video than someone who was actually at the game any day of the week.

4 for the ref? I'd have given him a 1. And that was for turning up at the right ground.

Here's my opinion, pretty much the same as the top poster:

Gillespie - 7 - two good saves, not much ace for the goals
T Miller - 6 - pretty solid, left exposed by Adams in the 1st half
Grainger - 6 - did ok defensively apart from a couple of times he got beaten for speed. He was left out on his own 2nd half when Adams switched sides when lambe came on
Raynes - 6 - won fair share in the air
Gillesphey - 5 - poor mistake for their 1st goal and not great distribution
Jones - 6 - 1st half was a by stander, improved 2nd half and should of scored when teed up bye wyke
Joyce - 6 - never really got into the game. Same as jones and had 2 chances to hit the target in the box, bot both went sailing over the bar.
Adams - 6.5 Worked Hard, the free roam he gets in the 442 formation left miller exposed dangerously in the 1st half. If he is to be allowed to wander we should have 5 in midfield
Kennedy - 6 - nothing really to note
S Miller - 5 - poor service, missed his only chance in the 1st half. Shouldn't of started
Ibehre - 6 - nothing stuck to him today like it normally does in a battle,

Subs
Wyke - 7 - felt he held the ball up well, linked up play a lot better than jabo. Maybe down to the change in tactics
Lambe - 7 - made a difference going forward, end product crosses could be better
Asamoah - 5 - again not really a strong player to bring on. Doesn't seem march fit to me and never got into it

Curle - 4- wrong tactics from the off. Corrected at half time but thought asamoah shouldn't of been our final sub

Ref - 4 - Amazing all the time wasting, missed the penalty claim where Raynes was pulled back in the box

It was a long trip. 1st half we just didn't win any 2nd balls in a scrappy affair, extra man in midfield helped and we controlled the game but think we could of done with jabo and wyke up top.

Once again their pitch I think hindered us somewhat, was an improvement still shocking. Fair play to Newport, but they were a shocking team punting the call into possession areas and then winning the 2nds won the game for them.
