The bubble starting to burst? Finally!
Cancelled my Sport and Movie packages 18 months ago, way too expensive.

Sorry to disappoint everyone but SKY is doing really well in business terms and currently experiencing its lowest customer attrition rates ever. The reality is that the Spanish league has low viewing figures in this country and this is simply SKY concentrating on their main draw, the Premier League. I'm not a sky lover by the way... But people have been bleating about their imminent collapse for years and it simply isn't happening I'm afraid. They have put their prices up over the last couple of years and lost fewer customers than ever... They must be doing something right for the majority. Sky Atlantic has been a massive positive for them. I subscribe to both SKY and BT as I am sports daft. They are both excellent value for money for me as a sports fan. Sky Go is superb if you travel a lot like I do.

Sky has pissed me off recently with taking off the 'ringside' show for no apparent reason. There was no warning or anything and one of the reasons I have sports is for the boxing and the show is a miss as it's really informative.
I mean 1 hour a week when there is 5 sports channels?

So if this happens, BT would have Champions League, Europa League, some English (Premier and Conference) & Scottish, Spanish, Italian, German, France, Portugese and Swiss games. Chuck in MLS and A-League and that's a fair whack of football to show!

Always like the European Football Show on a Sunday Evening...

Sky still showing Dutch?

BT were wise in getting UFC early too, growing in popularity every year...

Considering just a year ago sky promoted their brand new Sky Sports 5 channel as "the home of European football", as they had Spanish football, Champions League, Dutch football. What are they going to do with it now? "The home of Dutch football and the odd bit of international when the qualifiers are on".

Don't think I've ever sat down and watched a full game that wasn't English or Scottish apart from I think it was Linfield vCliftonville about 4 years ago or summat. The championship rugby league and state of origin games were a bigger loss to me.

I love watching the Irish league. Its basically 22 men kicking the shit out of eachother for 90 minutes, while a ball sits nearby. But they just get straight back up and shake hands.

Aye I got home before sat down ready to watch the game thinking it was on Sky. BT seem to be getting more and more yet the price of Sky keeps rising.
As with previous posters I've only got it for ease of use as have full internet and tele package but with multi room, HD, sports, movies etc is over £100 a month now and probably time to have a look at what else is available.

Well my BT price just jumped up from £12 to £20 per month because they got Champion League deal even though I don't watch it. The only reason why I got it in the first place was it was the only way I could get ESPN. The same reason I have Sky in, only for NFL. I watch a handful of Premier League games a season as I've found myself getting less and less interested in it and in all honesty I'd rather watch the Championship games than anything.

I managed to find every Raiders game free to watch online last two or three seasons so dont need sky really. Only prob is i usually have redzone on as well which is ahead of internet game streams so i have to knock it off. Do you not do the same for Dolphins games?.

Yes DB I do the same for Dolphins games and done so for three years now although it is hard to watch sometimes getting texts off MRF every third play whinging about a one-yard run or well, anything really. :-D

It beats the days of AFN (although they were enjoyable too) and losing the commentary as Spanish football took over at 4AM so missing the end of the game and then getting up for School the next morning.
I've never heard of any of those Snedders, problem is I need to tape/record the games when I go to wuk.

Can anyone (in terms a technological divvy can understand) explain these Internet android cowies for the TV?

I got offered one last week but didn't like to admit I hadn't got a clue how they work!
£40 and apparently you can watch any film or watch any game you want virtually, sounded too good to be true if I'm honest.

Basically with an Android box, it runs just like a phone, apps but on tv screen. You will need to download an app called KODI

On this app you can add addon which allow you to stream various things

I have genesis which streams all films and tv shows, I have got rid of Netflix.

You can watch live sky channels with other addons, and also stream the 3pm kick offs that get airs in the USA, on in good quality streams.

Takes a bit of research but well worth it, have a look on youtube, there is also a group on facebook, check out:
xbmc / kodi 2015 help & discussion (facebook group)

I have Kodi on my PC and in my bedroom on an Amazon Fire Tv Stick.

Having a scratch through the inter web and found something called a droidbox T8 which seems to be wireless or Ethernet Internet only thingy-jobbing connected to my adsl router, I have two Hdmi ports on my TV so would that thing just plug & play like your saying?
I can't connect anything to the sky dish so an Internet only box would be better....

If you can watch sky sports live games it's a no brainer, I'll have one asap.

Last question, are these things actually legal or are you eventually going to have a court summons through the door when Sky get upset?

Thanks a million for that Snedders! Very helpful cheers.

Yes mate droid box or try a m8 box too there is plenty of different brands out there to be honest.

Having the hardware is in no way illegal. Running kodi isn't illegal. Technically watching an Internet stream isn't illegal either it's the people sharing it doing the illegal things... You would be fine. Grey line in copyright infringement. No court appearances would occur, then again I'm no legal adviser lol. You should go for it tho! Definitely save you money

I also have a open box f5 box connected to my satellite. All sky channels ! I got 3 month for £7.50

I've just ditched sky and gone for a bt tv bundle.

Was already on fibre broadband and phone with BT and sky+ medium package and it was a combined cost of over £100.

Got a decent deal at under half that price.
With so much available via Internet surely sky's days of charging what they want because they have the monopoly are coming to an end.

If anyone wants to preview what its like to have an android box plugged up to your tv you can also get kodi for any newish android phone, windows xp and later etc. Theres some good guides on installing everything so you don't pay £70-130 for the boxes people sell when all they do is install the addons for you

My Dad got that letter from BT Sport last week, he joined in May - he called them and said just cancel it, they gave him it for 8 quid a month for 12 months as a result.

Think it is terrible the way people pay different prices personally, should be set and that is that.

Enjoyed watching the two Premier League matches today to be honest on a tv as I am at my Dads at the minute, it is easy saying about streams but I use them non stop being in Germany and they can really wear you down after a bit and become unenjoyable eventually.

In a few boozers over there are these boxes that have bloody every channel in existence going from what I see, would love one of those. Sure if you know what you are doing and the right people you can save a fortune and expand your viewing potential to an unlimited degree.

Cheers Wazza, I will be ringing up and see if I can get a few quid off. I cannot remember even getting a letter about it as I think they emailed me instead. It may as well be in my pocket than theirs.

Snedders

Are the games easy to find? I've bitten the bullet and bought one of these M8S droidbox cowies....sounded like it has everything preloaded and ready to go on it.
It should arrive mid week so I'll be plugged in by the weekend hopefully.
Just wondered how you find what games are available to view as it sounds like there's a ton of sports channels to chose from....or is it just a case of surfing until you find something being shown?

Yeah don't pay 99, or even the 119 he is trying to charge for installing. Look on amazon or ebay, can get similar boxes for 45-55 depending on what spec you want then google tvmc for guides on how to install stuff. Don't pay 40-60 more for someone else to install a couple of apps and addons

Know little about it all, I take it these run through the internet and you can link it up to your tv?

Is the quality good? Do the channels freeze at all etc?

Android TV is the future. Just make sure you have decent fibre broadband though.
You can even have the Sky "skin" so it looks like you have the actual sky channels.
