He played in this afternoon's 2-1 behind-closed-doors defeat against QoS. Apparently his teammates have already nicknamed him "monthly".

QoS have had a couple of good seasons so half decent opposition.

Mate is a Huddersfield fan and says he'd be a great signing for us and that they all want him in the first team this year. Says he captained their academy team last year as they won the league and got to cup semis.

Judging by some opinions on this forum, that today was close to our strongest team, certainly defensively.

Honestly, as promising as he may be why are we signing yet another midfielder? Are we not overloaded in that area already?

There must be something in the water down at BP as Kavanagh and particularly Abbott seemed to be obsessed with bringing in Midfielders. If we are only going to play three in there we already have cover there haven't we unless this lad is going to walk straight into the team as he is that exceptional.

I count 6 centre mids at the moment, that includes Balanta (who I thought was more of a winger by trade?) and Dicker and Sweeney who I'm guessing Curle won't be too fussed about shifting further down the pecking order, or is maybe still hoping to get shot of at least one of them by the end of the window. Especially if he manages to get Dicker out the door, maybe this lad can play the holding role and provide cover for Joyce?

I struggle to understand why we don't pick up players from them.

Apparantly Queens were playing a lot of trialists and reserves and still fecking won, Oh the pain the pain.....

Although "behind closed doors" the gates to the training ground were open cos the Neil Centre was busy with walking football. So after buying a ticket for Chesterfield I walked through and saw the QOS match. Carlisle were on top for most of the game and Queens first goal very much against the run of play. I had the impression that some of the Carlisle players (especially those likely to be in the squad for Mansfield) were under orders not to get injured so they played at somewhat less than flat out. I also felt that the main aim for Carlisle was to see how Walker and Billing played. Certainly there was a lot of encouragement for Walker from his teammates.
My views - Walker is OK but no better than we have, so I would let him go
- Billing ditto. Incidentally he didn`t seem anything like 6 foot 6 as reported on another thread. Maybe this was not the best way to judge him though
- of the others Dicker stood out. I cannot understand why we would want him to leave
Finally I think the club should encourage fans to come, free, to these games. Good PR, gives us retired folk summat to do, and surely cannot give much away to any rivals, especially as there were scouts, press and others there

I thought our best player yesterday was McQueen, playing on the right of midfield in the first half. Dicker certainly made fewer mistakes than most of the others. Walker showed a bit of ability but Billing didn't look up to much.

McQueen played right side of midfield (first half only). CMW played on the left side of a 3 man defence, Sweeney on the right. We didn't have full backs or even wing backs. Osei played much further forward. They had their names on their shirts apart from Billing.
